Sorry, I'm crap without a cape.

No capes!

I did fail the parachuting once, but I didn't find it all that hard once I realized I had to dodge the trees.

I wouldn't have remembered that TR even *had* parachuting if you folks hadn't reminded me, so I apparently didn't have much trouble with it.

There was parachuting in this game?

Same for me. That river section though...

Weird. I only had one retry on the river. Parachuting seemed like the chute caught on an invisible branch and sent me spiralling into another chest-first.

GamingHeads is making a Lara Croft Survivor statue. You can get a version with a gun or a version with a bow.

Pretty cool stuff, and as much as I'd like to buy the statue, I'm saving my money for their Skyrim stuff.

So I bought this game for 360 where it has been waiting in the dreaded "someday" digital stack. Should also mention: loved many of the Tomb Raiders when they first came out, particularly the original... it was my re-introduction to the console gaming space after taking some time away. Anyway... so there sits the game. I now have an Xbox One, and there's been mention of a "definitive" next gen version on the horizon; what is your advice? Just play it on the 360, or wait and go XB1 version?

I picked up the ps3 version yesterday. Don't know if I will get to it this break though

Well, if you liked this one and don't have an Xbone, prepare to be sad. Apparently the sequel is going to be an Xbox exclusive. This may even involve not coming out on PC, since the quote includes saying that Playstation and PC are great systems, and will have Temple of Osiris on them.

Goddamnit, I hate platform exclusives. Hopefully (likely?) it's only a timed exclusive, and they'll get around to releasing it on PS/PC later.

I think it's almost a sure bet it will show up at least on PC at some point later on.

Yeesh. I may just have to sway over to grabbing an XOne instead of a PS4 first since there's a number of titles I'm more interested on that platform. Will it be a repeat of this generation, where I start on Xbox and finish on Playstation?

I at least have time to wait and see. By time I'm ready to buy a next-generation system, they'll have likely announced whether Tomb Raider 2 will be timed exclusivity or not.

I loved, loved the 2013 game and this p***** me off. Really don't want to play the new one in 813p or whatever resolution the X1 is running these days. Better give me a proper PC version at least.

Ugh.

Yeah, I'm kind of assuming that'll happen at some point too. It just bugs me is all.

Where was this reported? It's crazy!

Gamescom, an hour or so ago.

Stupid console wars.

Seriously though I'm betting this will release on PC a year after XBone. I'm surprised we haven't seen more exclusive games this new generation. It's been almost a year and I can only think of one or two exclusive games worth mentioning.

This is not a timed exclusive, but a genuine one, as confirmed by Crystal Dynamics head Darrell Gallagher on the Tomb Raider tumblr. "Our friends at Microsoft have always seen huge potential in Tomb Raider and have believed in our vision since our first unveil with them on their stage at E3 2011," he writes. "We know they will get behind this game more than any support we have had from them in the past - we believe this will be a step to really forging the Tomb Raider brand as one of the biggest in gaming, with the help, belief and backing of a major partner like Microsoft.

WHAT?!

Sure, one of the biggest brands in gaming... as if it wasn't second or third right behind Mario and Halo anyway! I really dislike exclusives. I would have played this game but I'm not going to spend a load of money just to get this one game.

Here's the Crystal Dynamics post in full:

As you may have seen, we’ve just announced that Rise of the Tomb Raider, coming Holiday 2015, is exclusively on Xbox. We consider all of you to be the lifeblood of Tomb Raider and the work we do at Crystal. I’d like to give you some insight into this decision, and why we feel this is the very best thing for the Tomb Raider sequel we’re creating at the studio.

Tomb Raider in 2013 was a success due in large part to your continued support. Our goal has always been to deliver something truly special with Rise of the Tomb Raider. Today’s announcement with Microsoft is one step to help us put Tomb Raider on top of action adventure gaming. Our friends at Microsoft have always seen huge potential in Tomb Raider and have believed in our vision since our first unveil with them on their stage at E3 2011. We know they will get behind this game more than any support we have had from them in the past - we believe this will be a step to really forging the Tomb Raider brand as one of the biggest in gaming, with the help, belief and backing of a major partner like Microsoft.

This doesn’t mean that we’re walking away from our fans who only play on PlayStation or on PC. Those are great systems, with great partners, and amazing communities. We have Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris coming to those platforms this December, and Tomb Raider: The Definitive Edition is available on PS4.

We know that there are probably many more questions and concerns. Please do send them to us, and we’ll answer to the best of our ability. Meanwhile we’re going all out to try and make something truly special - the most ambitious Tomb Raider game ever built.

Worth noting: it says "Xbox", not "Xbox One", which means this might come out on the 360. Also worth noting: it specifically mentions the PC alongside the PlayStation as a platform that they're not "walking away from" but clearly won't be offering Rise of the Tomb Raider (still the dumbest title) to.

I love the "we're not forgetting about those other platforms" line. "We're not forgetting about you. We just like Microsoft's money way better than yours."

Ugh...

Polygon[/url]]This doesn't mean that we're walking away from our fans who only play on PlayStation or on PC.

Which is exactly what you're doing... even worse by saying that there is a different game and type of experience (I.e. rise of osiris) for those platforms. That's like serving your sibling a steak dinner and offering you beans on toast...

[edit]

So I'm thinking it is a timed exclusive as opposed to the Eurogamer quote above because their source (i.e. tumbler post) does not mention anything about it not being one...

Let's wait and see how this plays out. I'd be seriously surprised if it doesn't come to the other platforms since the engine is probably the same and everything and XBO is at least equal or less to the PS4 install base.

Didn't the last Tomb Raider under perform for the company by their internal metrics? What a great strategy to sell more copies! Release it on fewer systems!!!

I didn't even like the Tomb Raider reboot (way too many QTEs and cutscenes for me), but I know a lot of people did and were surely planning to play its inevitable sequel, so once again ... f*ck exclusives and f*ck the companies who continue to participate in this anti-consumer behavior!

Maybe the strategy this time is to get money up front from MS so they can sustain a smaller sales base. If it's XBone exclusive that gives a perfect excuse for small sales numbers. If it's acclaimed by critics that gives even more reason to re-release it later on other platforms.

It did fail to live up to Square/Enix's expectations, but those expectations were also pretty insane.

I propose Tomb v. Raider: Dawn of Noun as the title of the inevitable sequel.

With how flimsy the word "exclusive" is used these days, I expect this game to eventually be on other platforms but it will probably be later in the form of Rise of the Tomb Raider: Definitive Revenge of the Deception Edition. Dead Rising 3 made it's way to PC, Ryse is making it's way to PC and SE have invested so much into rebooting the franchise that I just can't see it staying exclusive.

I read this as:

I'd buy that game!

Gotta remember this thread to see if there is equal outrage for a Sony exclusive of a third party title.

Really don't want to play the new one in 813p or whatever resolution the X1 is running these days

Two things.. do you know this for a fact that the new Tomb Raider will not run at 1080P on the Xbox One? As well if it does run at sub 1080P will you notice the dramatic difference?

And pretty much this.. it's all but certain this is nothing more than a "timed" exclusive from a third party to ensure some first mover sales. I doubt many people will run out and buy Xbox One's just for this game.. this franchise doesn't carry that kind of weight and Crystal Dynamics doesn't have that fan loyalty like FROM software does.
