SC2 Pro Tournament Discussion

Damn racks must be roiding up.

EG announces their new player.

Spoiler:

ThorZaIN you traitor =(

Meh. EG offers a better deal for a player I can't be anything but happy for the player.

Doubly so if it means he gets to go back to the Slayers house again.

*Hey guys, MLG and KeSPA just signed a multi-year partnership last night.

Fun news: oGs disbanded, bunch of suddenly teamless players out there now.

On top of that: IM and SK have partnered for GSTL, so expect to see MC, MVP, and Nestea sitting on the same bench.

And more: Slayers and EG are carrying their partnership to the GSTL for this upcoming season too.

Not to mention that Liquid is its own GSTL team now as well with TLO traveling back to South Korea.

Yeah, this almost has me wanting to pay for a season of GSTL... Although it's hard to not see IM/SK just smashing face all the way through... On the other hand, every player in the GSTL is playing the meta game against MVP, MC and Nestea which means we should see some development in the meta game. Right now alot of people are saying people are playing to greedy. Even in Gold where I play it seams like I am getting ALOT of free wins for making expo's to early. It's almost my go to timing in 40-50% of ladder games now.

Edit: Not to suggest my gold meta game and Korean pro meta game are even remotely the same

The MLG Arena for this weekend started. MC/MMA are already in a 25+ minute game on Tal'Darim to start off the tournament, and Idra is down 0-1 against Socke on stream 2.

Biggest thing I've noticed so far is they're doing some really cool presentation stuff.

At one point MC was attacking the front at MMA's natural and they brought up a picture-in-picture view of a zealot drop he was doing in the main mineral line at the same time. It was awesome and they've continued doing it.

*Why oh why don't Zerg players with 1000+ minerals in the bank and 200/200 build spine crawlers to defend drops? I'm SO TIRED of watching hatcheries and tech get sniped repeatedly in a game, and the whole time the zerg's gas starved and floating a big bank of minerals.

It's like they're allergic or something. Ugh.

Currently watching Stephano/Ryung. We're 20 minutes in. 7 (or maybe 8?) hatchery cancels and a lost tech structure or two later, still no spine/spore crawlers anywhere. 3800 minerals in the bank. WTF.

*Just lost his Hive and Greater spire. L O L.

At this point I'm actively rooting against him. He doesn't deserve a fricking win at this point.

*Boo! Boo Ryung! Stephano had no right to win that game.

*DRG/Polt Game 1

Holy sh*t guys. WATCH DRG/POLT AS SOON AS YOU POSSIBLY CAN

I've been wondering that since beginning of organized play. You can't really remax on lings - I think a part of it is zerg ego. Like "My map awareness and multitasking is so good, I don't need spines"

Anyone staying up for GSL finals tonight?

Watched half last night, decided to watch the rest today...

Spoiler:

I thought MVP had it easy when I went to bed and I was like ... meh, how could he lose from here. I can't believe it came back 3-3 before finishing.

Ouch, IdrA went 0-2, 0-2 again
I don't remember the last time he even won a map :S

Polt vs. Symbol was balls to the wall awesome as well. Makes me wish I didn't have a social life and work this weekend.

Yeah, I've wondered for a whlle if he'll ever be competitive again.

[Interviews] Bisu, Coach Park, and Jaedong http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/view...

Finalized list of Brood War players that will be in attendance at MLG Anaheim:

Neo.G_Soulkey
Calm
Stork
Flash
Leta
Bisu
Fantasy
Jaedong

Quote from the ESFI article talking about that list:

The eight players have collectively won fifteen OSLs and MSLs (the two major Brood War tournaments for many years) with fourteen total second place finishes and represent a large chunk of the best active Brood War talent.

The only part that's kind of a bummer is that they'll only be participating in their own exhibition tournament, not in the actual MLG tournament itself. I understand why, because they simply haven't had time to get as good as the current diehard SC2 pro players and it wouldn't actually be all that interesting watching them lose a bunch. Part of me still wishes I could see Flash and Jaedong play against my current favored SC2 players though.

Time to release that elephant in the room

Worth mentioning, because it totally snuck up on me.

Red Bull Battle Grounds in Austin started this afternoon and runs all weekend. It's on Day9's stream and a dedicated redbull stream. Both are linked in the sidebar on Team Liquid, 720p is free, etc. Redbull doing some things really really right that nobody else has managed so far. Their intro of the players was excellent.

So far the only complaint I can bring against the event is some sound issues. Currently if you watch Day9 commentate Illusion vs Stephano, you hear them, and see the right game, but you hear the game audio from the OTHER stream, which is Rob Simpson and Husky. And the opposite is true on that stream. Right now you hear them and see the right game, but you get the game audio from the day9/wheat stream. It's kind of incredible that their setup even managed to make such a thing possible, but it's currently still happening.

That was still an incredibly stupid article

*GSTL started again. I've only watched the first game so I don't know if the whole match is this interesting, but the first game is hilarious.

Who casts the GSTL?

haha... just curious, I was thinking about ordering a GSTL vs. a GSL this time around. But bad casters can really kill a good game.

It's Wolf and Khaldor for this season.

Do other people do it for other seasons?

Wolf and Khaldor are both pretty good casters... They could use a little more refinement, but still they are good. They certainly know there stuff but lack a certain "personality"

In past seasons Moletrap was in the mix as well, but I believe he's casting LoL or Dota 2 now.

Moletrap did indeed switch to LoL. He's doing casts for OGN. Thank god.

Note that while certain casters may annoy me, it's never going to stop me from trying to watch an otherwise great event.

My borderline hate of Husky is never going to stop me from watching an amazing game that only he casted. Just means I might turn the volume down a bit to keep his voice from driving me crazy

haha, true, but if it was husky for the full season would you really pay money for it?

If the games are ones involving players I want to watch in a tournament format I like? Yes.

I hated moletrap almost as much as I hate Husky and I still always watched all of Code A.
