SC2 Pro Tournament Discussion

I dunno. If I were to root for one of the two Protoss guys it would absolutely be MC, but since he's against Jinro he is by default the bad guy

I'll be rooting for whoever wins the Jinro/MC match in the finals. Actually I'm bummed that Jinro/MC couldn't actually be the final.

I could care less about the other two players really. Rain particularly seems like he only survived this far because of huge mistakes on the part of his opponents, and never because he did anything particularly great. Watching Nestea totally screw the pooch in most of those games and lose to him was painful.

It's a weird spot for them though, they're friends, have the same practice partners and now they have to play a Bo7 for tons of money. Dammit, I swear Jinro deserves to be in the final more than either one of those cheesy bastards on the other side of the bracket.

Yeah, I recoiled every time I saw one of those SCV/marine rushes against zerg.

Jinro's matches in round of ?16? was great too. He had to deal with a lot of muta play, but he did a lot of good decision making, and showed his macro chops with TvZ rather than the usual 3 zerg base vs 2 terran base "death push" or 2 barrack scv rush.

That was round of 32, and yeah, it was a really stellar performance. Jinro's been playing calm, cool, and collected. Very nice.

Wow. Rain tried to be aggressive early with MM and a fast ghost and got pretty thoroughly stomped by an awesome looking HongUn in game 1. Pretty fun. It's almost a shame Rain GG'ed out - HongUn had just started on a Fleet Beacon.

Edit: Well, HongUn played about one and a half good games, but is now down 3-1 and is sort of falling apart. How do you not build a sentry when you're on a map with a thin ramp and close spawn positions?

Do yourselves a favor and skip the HongUnPrime.WE vs TSL_Rain semi final. The first game was ok, but after that it was the same sh*te play they showed in their quarter finals.

I love the way oGs MC plays Toss. I agree that he is a much better player than HongUn and I enjoy MC's style more.

I am also bummed that it's MC vs Jinro. I love toss and hate Terran but I got to root for Jinro.

I predict that oGsMC will win over Jinro in a real nailbiter and then proceed to roflstomp TSL_Rain.

Still rooting for Jinro of course. Would love to see a Swede take GSL3.

It really is a shame that MC and Jinro had to be in the same bracket. I don't care what Artosis said at the end of Hongun's and Rain's match, I'm still a Rain hater.

I have to disagree with this. It wasn't stellar play, but it was much better than either of the two's previous matches. Rain only did a marine/SCV rush once and played pretty smart in all the other matches. HongUn had some good builds but was too stubborn and refused to change them to accommodate Rain.

The game on Scrap Station where Rain scouted the 4-gate and then failed to defend it was beyond bad.

Yeah, some awful mistakes in most of the games as of late.

I will be rooting against Rain no matter who wins the Jinro/MC match tonight. In fact, I'll be staying up to watch that one live I think.

But Rain winning at all?

I thought the first game was really nice play on HongUn's part. The super fast 3/3 upgrades with templar support looked really potent, and he pulled it off very well.

...but the rest of that series was pretty awful. I'm also rooting against Rain, regardless of today's winner.

Go Jinro!

Go, Jinro, GO!

*Uh-oh. God I hate Steppes.

Wow...let's hope that was just nerves for Jinro, not a general indication of how he's going to respond to early pressure this series.

Wow. So, what *is* a Terran supposed to do against that play that early on?

Crazy.

In the first game, I think if he'd gotten the bunker at the front up just a hair sooner he could have been fine. In the second game, I have no freaking idea. That was crazy.

Yeah that's the one I was talking about. Even if Jinro had stayed one base, I still don't think he would have ever had enough units to take on the kind of force MC had thrown together. Maybe fast siege tech? Either way, super good build.

I guess fast cloaked banshee could have hurt it pretty bad, or even just throwing in a couple Banshees along with the MM force.

Well, it was a nice run for Jinro and it's certainly the biggest success he's had (~$8k for 4th) and it's awesome that a 'foreigner' has reached this far. He'll only get better and as much as I like the guy and root for him I just don't see him coming back (god, I hope I'm so wrong).
It sucks that Liquid` and oGs players face each other (TLOvHypercrap) almost every time, those know each other so well and it's really easy to abuse the style Jinro plays (he's turning in the terran IdrA).

As a protoss though I will really have to rewatch those (too bad no replays), I am usually so scared to leave my base with just one-two zealots but it seems that it's not as bad as I thought.

(DT:Spirit Carries On ftw!) edit: lol, that was my foobar unpausing itself haha.

Wow. This is rough

*Game 4, man, MC seems borderline Psychic.

*Ok, now this is just hysterically funny.

Well at least we're getting a wild one to go out on.

Well, I hope MC destroys Rain.

Yeah. Hope he 10-0s Rain out of the 7 games.

Well that was disappointing. Four rushes, four beatdowns.

I'm glad that wasn't the actual finals because that was incredibly one-sided. I don't expect Rain will put up much more of a fight but hopefully it will be something worth watching.

While I am disappointed Jinro is gone I am looking forward to MC playing. I play very aggressive Protoss and I really like the way he plays.

Go Protoss!

Yeah that was an absolute massacre. The mass sentry ---> sick force fields around the bunker on Xel Naga were beautiful. After watching Hongun's clumsy attacks it was a pleasure to see these tight well thought out attacks by MC.

As for the finals, I really disliked Rain for all that garbage he pulled on NesTea but then he goes and apologizes? Really man? You are a professional, don't apologize for winning. Team MC!

Incredibly late, but I just watched the dreamhack finals with MaNa (P) vs Naama (T)

That protoss play was beautiful. Game 4 was especially great, with both colossi and HTs

That series was indeed awesome, and it's kind of sad knowing the GSL finals won't be anywhere near that entertaining. Honestly the last 3 or 4 rounds of the GSL this season have all been pretty frickin' boring. Impressive play certainly, but nothing like Dreamhack finals or Clide v. Leenock from round 2.

Oh man. oGsMC v Jinro made me cry. Have to give MC props for arrowing directly for Jinro's weak point every single time, but it was a bit disappointing to not see Jinro able to bring his force to bear even once. (Of course, MC knowing Jinro's strength in the later game would have been stupid to let him get there, but still... *sigh*)

Ahh, well.
