SC2 Pro Tournament Discussion

Then commences the most awkward bizarre freestyle game of pro SC2 I've seen in a long while.

That was pretty crazy. I'm going to have to try that one on the ladder. I'm really enjoying this final.

IEM Singapore is on.

Haha, sounds like the good old days during the GSL Open tournaments.

Anyone catch this game between Scarlet and Dream. For some reason this set really impressed me.

Bomber leaving Startale to, perhaps, form his own team. Should be interesting.

MLG is bringing back SC2 at anaheim, albeit with some different ideas for format.

Should be an interesting year.

*A full 50% of the players in Code S this season at GSL are protoss. Going to be so much PvP. Oh, and only three terrans who will likely all get PvT'd right out of the tournament leaving zero chance of any ZvT (best matchup in the game!) for the rest of it.

I'm actually rooting for terrans in the opening round of GSL. This is what we've come to.

TLO vs. Bomber at IEM was an amazing series! I'm looking forward to the semis and the finals.

Like the commentators said though... Hero doesnt lose against Zerg

Sets up a PvP final. Meh. Guess I'll see what's happening in that Asus ROG tournament.

Yeah, I want to see if
[spoiler]MC can win. He's got some personality.

ForGG is about to play Dear in the Asus tournament. Should start in about 15 minutes.

If ForGG loses it'll be Dear aginst the winner of San and Stardust. So... another PvP.

I guess I should accept that this is how things are going to be for a while.

Yep. Although the IEM final was a pretty amazing display of Protoss micro. Both of those guys are just so good. I have to go for a run, but I hope to be back in time to see that Asus final.

Proleague started at 4 this morning.

It's still going at 9am, thanks mostly to a 2 hour and 15 minute game on Star Station TE between Soulkey and Reality. Reality turtled bigtime with mech and Soulkey just couldn't ever break him. The game went on for an hour after the map was mined out before being declared a draw and forcing a regame

Then the regame went 42 minutes because Reality did the exact same thing, only Soulkey punished him for his turtling, getting like 7 bases to Reality's 4. He built up a huge bank (over 13000 minerals at one point) and combined Vipers and Infestors and just completely emptied Reality's bank almost every time he attacked while barely using any resources of his own.

After the travesty that was the first game the regame was almost art.

That's sick. I didn't know you could even have a draw. I did see a ton of people complaining about swarm hosts on twitter. Was that related or just the typical complaint about how damn boring swarm host play is?

There was a lot of swarm host whining, but the reality is is that as a zerg in ZvT you only ever go Swarm Host as a reaction to the other player going mech. If they want to go mech, that's what they're going to get because it's the only viable response you have. I don't know what people expect a pro zerg to do in a match when the Terran opponent starts going mech. All the old WOL style counters to mech have been nerfed into oblivion or aren't viable anymore for other reasons. It's the one and only workable response. If they want to bitch about Swarm Hosts then they can bitch about mech right alongside it.

Reality's TvZ style is pure mech turtling and trying to wear the Zerg down over time. Soulkey was having none of it and just got more Swarm Hosts, and even after losing his bases, just scooted his swarm hosts around with a ball of uprooted spore/spine crawlers in the middle as his buildings. So they played ring around the rosie around the center circle and other spots on Star Station TE for about an hour.

At some point, maybe right around the 2 hour mark, a pause was requested by the refs, the refs chose to make them play it out, and Reality's reaction to them forcing him to play it out was to float all his buildings into his main, move his siege tank ball up there, and park it all under his viking fleet and Ravens. So from there on he just sat occasionally casting PDD while Soulkey's locusts suicided themselves into tank fire on the ramp.

Soulkey had spent the entire game trying to be aggressive and force Reality to move or do something, and he didn't do anything. He scooted from base to base, defended, and nothing else.

It was kind of funny for a while, but wore on everybody pretty quick.

Of course then when the refs finally called it a draw and forced a regame Soulkey scouted out Reality doing the exact same thing and murdered it. It was glorious.

Is there a replay available somewhere? Or is it behind a pay wall?

Proleague matches just go up on Youtube after. Here's the playlist for the entire Samsung Galaxy vs SKT1 match from today. Note that part 1 of Soulkey/Reality is still processing, because it probably takes Youtube a year to process a 2 and a half hour long 1080p video.

I dont know if you guys have been watching, but IEM Cologne this year has been incredible.

Polt is a disgusting run so far

Spoiler:

His semi-final against Rain has been f*cking incredible, as was his quarter final against Classic. TvP, ez.

Reading about Jaedong's earlier matches on twitter while I was stuck at work in a place where there's no way to stream was fairly annoying.

I am just gonna say, the semi-finals have been f*cking amazing.

And I usually never watch staracraft.

I hope Polt f*cking murders Hero. 4-0. Mercilessly.

Spoiler:

hahahaha why?

polt beat rain

so you'd think hero wouldn't have a chance, but he did 3-0 innovation.

with all this talk about starcraft becoming repetitive and a predictable affair they had me going there for a bit about starcraft being on a proper, scary decline.

these koreans, this tournament, what i've seen here renewed all my faith in the game.

Innovation has been bordering on bad for a couple months now. Moving out of kespa has slowly cost him.

And I just dislike Hero. Also, root against Protoss players right now on general principle.

Plus all I wanted from the first time I looked at the bracket this morning was a Polt and Jaedong final.

Not the first time hero shat on what would have been better finals matchup.

I hope he loses hard and cries. It would please me, right in the core of my little black heart.

hahahahahahaha fair enough.

personally i wanted a polt/jd final too.

wel if it's any consolation, polt's semi final was amazing.

JD vs Hero had 2 maps where you just couldn't help but go 'wtf/?'

but the last two maps were amazzzzzzzing.

Every game polt played in the tournament were tvps.

I think polt is somehow immune to blink all-in.

Sorry, the power of protoss prevails 4-2

Glad I turned it off after Jaedong lost.

What's wrong with Hero?

Thank goodness they're rebroadcasting this. Sounds like I missed some awesome games.

IEM archives VODs for free i beelieve. all in their twitch channel.
