SC2 Pro Tournament Discussion

Watch the Taeja/Innovation match at the very least. It's just nuts.

Yeah, I'm with Gunner on this one. I tuned in as well this morning after hearing about the rest of the series. And then was kinda letdown by the matches. I'm glad the rest of the tourney was good watching though. Wish I woulda had time to watch Saturday at least :s

Finally got intrigued by Starcraft again to then just leave on a "Meh." But hey, overall, I heard great things about the earlier games. Think I'm gonna go find those on the web somewhere.

You can find all of the VODs from the tournament here. There are some great matches.

So a great tournament overall this time for WCS.

But man that final... I'm still bummed.

Yeah, the final was very disappointing. Scarlett gave Bomber a much better game than Jaedong did. Who knew.

All of the VODs are available to watch for free--so go back and watch some of those awesome matches! It's not live, but still so good.

Edit: I am slow to post. Still, watch them!

So this is fun.

The big story going around right now is that Innovation will be going to team Acer (with Scarlett, MMA, Bly, and others) when his contract with STX Soul expires on September 1st.

Supposedly it's all but confirmed, but there's also a slight chance it could be Maru, not Innovation. All that's known is that it's a Terran player that got knocked out of the WCS final before the round of 8. Either of those two fit the bill.

Wow. I think that either player would give Acer a nice boost.

Just a reminder in case anybody forgot, GSL Code S starts back up this morning. First group is Soulkey, Parting, Swagger (), and Pigbaby ( again)

*Also some more big news out of Korea. KESPA opening up for all and relaxing a lot of their most limiting policies.

The TLDR version: KeSPA no longer requires membership fee to join, all Korean teams and organization will be able to join; broadcasting companies will be free to broadcast KeSPA events as long as they join KeSPA.

So a solid chance we see EGTL in Proleague again next year, possibly with LGIM and Startale and some of the other current ESF teams.

Should be interesting to watch develop.

Anyone watching WCS North America?

I havent watched any of WCS AM this season. I caught the majority of Korea and pieces of EU. Don't have room for all three.

Also... Football.

If you guys missed it, watch the IEM finals between Life and Naniwa. Some of the sickest holds I have ever seen.

Having Polt cast with Day9 in WCS is awesome. The earlier games that MC cast were brilliant too.

They need a WCS post-game show. I would have liked to hear what Day-9 had to say about that final.

[spoiler]I'm sad that Jaedong lost.

Yeah, that abrupt cut off in order to give us some fantastic people shuffling out of their seats footage was strange.

I only caught a couple of series yesterday and the finals today, but what I saw was quite enjoyable. Jaedong vs. Dear was especially great.

I went in rooting for the Dong, but sOs's play won me over.

Spoiler:

Jaedong was on his back foot for most of the series.

I turned off the stream after game 2 and went to do something else

I caught Game 3 and thereonafter. Game three was awesome.

Meh. Knew Jaedong was done after dropping two games that both started with cannon rushes.

Waste of time.

I watched it but it was a pretty boring finals. I have a hard time enjoying SC2 as much as I did, maybe I'm just worn out on it but it feels like HotS didn't change that much after all. There can still be amazing games, but the average game goes on long after you know who's going to win.

Game 3 was great. I thought the JD should have won game 1 also. I thought that it was a good series.

Is anybody else watching HomeStory cup? I'm interested to see Stephano play.

Stephano's play was so boring that I almost had to turn the stream off. Hour long swarm host games aren't exciting to watch.

There was a roughly zero percent chance he was going to do anything else. If you expected anything else it's your own fault

Yeah, I guess I was just naive in hoping that he'd bring something new to the table.

Why would he? He's not coming back to Pro SC2. HSC was a short vacation for him. A chance to hang out with some friends he'd made in the SC2 scene and get away from school.

He made that pretty clear before the event even started, or at least tried to. The community overhyped it like he was coming back for real.

I guess he'd do something crazy and new just for that reason. He had nothing really to lose and he wasn't seriously trying to win. So, why not just go nuts with some crazy new strat.

If you have any interst in SC2 at all, go watch Scarlett vs Bomber game 3 from today's Red Bull Battlegrounds in NYC. That game was amazing.

That was an amusing game. I kept wishing for Scarlet to build like 3 spines and 1 spore at the gold, it would have made that base so much more tolerable to defend.

As a ex-zergie, I do hate it when terrans can rely on pumping 16 T1 units at once and put so much pressure and gas units to fight them /endofrant

Scarlett v SoS:

Spoiler:

Game 1: That was damned fine play from Scarlett. Go, Scarlett, go!
Game 2: Holy hell.

Game 4: Scarlett said on twitter:

so tilted after start of game 4 ~_~ forgot my pool. was trying to go hatch pool hatch and take the gold cuz i knew he would cannon
but it didnt work out well when i lose drones+lings to cannon at strat:<

Finishing up: Oh jeez. Not a win for Scarlett, but... wow, that was a great match.

Scarlett vs MC:

I thought she might have a little trouble after just coming out of a best of five in the same matchup... but... uh... nope. :)

Game 2 between Life and Taeja at the Dreamhack Open finals is hilarious. Taeja opens proxy 2 rax. Life opens Proxy hatchery in Taeja's natural.

Then commences the most awkward bizarre freestyle game of pro SC2 I've seen in a long while.

Just sat down at the start of Game 3, enjoyable to watch. I'll have to go back and watch VODs when I can, I had way too much going on for a Saturday
