We have multiplayer, we have single player, we even have our own GWJ SC2 Tournament, but what we dont have is a thread for all us spectators who enjoy the likes of GSL and other pro gaming surrounding Starcraft.

GOMTV
Live and Archive SC2 games:GOMTV
Some content is free, most isn't. GOMTV is the most avidly updated repository of SC2 broadcasting. Think of it like the ESPN of SC2.

Day9
what makes SC2 such an interesting spectator sport is the commentators and the clarity provided by knowledgeable casters. Day9 in addition to being a great tournament caster runs his own podcast/tutorial/tournements all for free. Great place for anyone at all curious about Professional Starcraft 2 and remains useful to those wise and practised in the ways of micro/macro.
Ustream
Archive

sc2casts.com
sc2casts.com is a great resource for looking up casted replays. The browsing system can be arranged by player, caster, and event. They even have there own iOS app with the following features.

 "recent" section, where you can see the latest videos added, or "all" to check out the huge archive
 "browse" section - to browse everything by player name / caster name or event name
 "top" section, with the Top 10 series for the last 24 hours/last week/last month or all times
 "search" mechanism, which will help you find a certain game you are looking for
 Favorites - where you can add the series you like and easily come back to them whenever you want
 more than 1000 cataloged videos and new content being added each day
 multiple games from events (Best of 3, Best of 5 Series) are grouped nicely and intuitively
 neat "no spoilers" system of viewing the videos, where the games are displayed in a way that it won't spoil the outcome of the whole series

iPad iPhone sadly not a '+' app

My personal use of this website has been to track changes in players styles. I also appreciate the browse by caster functionality. That way I can avoid the rather annoying casters out there.

Team Liquid
Team Liquid is home to many of the great (english speaking players) and provides a significant amount of advice and internal practise leagues to the professional players. The Team Liquid Tournament section is a nifty list of what tournaments are happening where and when.

Woooo GSL Season 3!

Foxer proves to be even more lame by naming himself "Marine King"

Can FruitDealer come back?
Can NesTea defend his title?
Will SlayerSBoxer make it to the finals?
Will Protoss show up?
Can someone from Team Liquid make it to the top 16?

Ahhhhhhhhhh

Edit: What's going to be the spoiler policy in here? I for one vote that there are no spoiler tags in this thread.

You could add the Team Liquid Tournament Forum. It has info for all upcoming SC2 tournaments. Many are very small and probably won't appeal to most people here, but it's a good reference.

That's probably a good idea, though it means I'll have to avoid the thread for a while so I can catch up!

very good idea, was just browsing Team Liquid trying to figure out the best part to link too

common opinion will rule this one. We will see how it plays out

One vote for no spoiler tags please. I wanna check on scores in this place.

It's easier to skim over match details and just see the scores, than it is to uncover every spoiler tag until I see one that shows the score.

Another vote for no spoiler tags.

The thread is purely about the tournament and pro scene. If we use spoiler tags it'll be nothing but whole pages of white boxes with a comment here and there between.

That's just silly.

*I'll likely be in a position to watch a lot of the mid morning games on the live stream tomorrow in between phone calls at work. Can't wait!

GSL Season 3 - Round of 64 - Day 1 - bracket

NesTea(Z) v. Syj(T)
oGsVINES(P) v. Sen(Z)
LittleBoy(T) v. jookToJung(Z)
MakaPrime(T) v. Sleep (Z)
oGsTheWinD(Z) v. GoldenfOu(Z) (I always like pronouncing this guy as "Golden Eff You")

Some big names on Day 1. The defending champ is up first and we have games from Sen from Taiwan and the infamous MakaPrime.

Non-Korean Watch: Sen (Taiwan), HayprO (Sweden), Ret (Netherlands), Jinro (Sweden), IdrA (USA)

Not many protoss again this time around. Kind of sad. Blizz really needs to tweak something to give them a bit more dynamism.

Did he really? That's almost enough to make me not cheer for him =(

Subscribing. I've still to get in the groove of watching games, although I loved the couple games I saw on GOMTV. Opting between spending time with the missus, playing games and watching SC2 pro games, well, time is finite. Still, I hope that following this thread will allow me to cherry pick the truly epic matches.

Nothing like waking up at 5 am to watch Starcraft. I've purchased the pass for seasons 1 and 2. I'll likely end up doing the same for season 3.

I kinda want to root for that Goma guy. Dude looked so pumped that he even got to play much less actually win the round, it was nice to see someone genuinely happy and not trying desperately to hide it.

Maka about to start against IMSleep, who I've never seen play before. Fun

It looked like jookToJung played really, really bad the first game. The second game was a little better. I will definitely be looking to see how Goma can do. As they said, he beat oGsInca in the qualifiers, which is damn impressive, because Inca is a stud.

Sleep looks like a solid Zerg but Maka looks even better than he has the last two tournaments. Much better micro than we saw from him in Season 2.

And Maka 2-0's Sleep. Not really surprising I don't think.

Maka pretending not to speak english to give the translator something to do in the interview

My favorite part of the early season in GSL is I can come in to work and watch some of it live.

Can we toss the "back by popular demand"? Was kinda hard to find this thread

Something Day9 says a lot is "Gosu *2". What does that mean? Far as I can tell it amounts to "awesome at Starcraft".

Gosu has been a gamer term for "really good" for a long time now. So, yeah, Gosu times two is just his way of exaggerating how awesome someone is.

Yeah... definitely a good idea. And how about making it "SC2 Pro Tournament Discussion" instead of making it read like some new version of the game is coming out? The first time I read the thread title I thought it was about the release of the much rumored LAN enabled version of the game.

I'm most excited to see the random player in round 1. Also July Zerg could be cool, if he brings new stuff to the table.

I'm really new to SC2 (never played the original), and I got interested by watching HuskyStarcraft's replay broadcasts.

http://www.youtube.com/user/HuskySta...

I don't think he does any real-time commentating, so you probably won't be able to check on breaking news, but it's a decent stream for people new to the game. It helped me, at least, figuring out how to do basic builds, the importance of macro, watching good players micro, etc.

Apologies if the link is off-topic, I'm still getting a handle on the whole phenomenon. I might suck at the game, but I do enjoy watching good players play.

Looking forward to how Team Liquid manages to do coming off their absurdly good performance at MLG Dallas.

In other news, this Thursday through Sunday there's going to be a big tournament at Dreamhack in Sweden. Day9 will be commentating, and there is even mention of him doing some Dailies while there! Listing of big name players:

They came off MLG Dallas by having 3 players qualify for the GSL (Jinro, Haypro, and Ret). I believe HuK was the only player from TL that attempted and failed to qualify, and he even got to the finals of his group (probably then Mothership rushed and lost or something).

Yes, I mean that I'm looking forward to seeing how Jinro, Haypro, and Ret do in the GSL. Should be a fun time.

Caught some VODs at lunch. Is anyone else having trouble with stuttering? It may be my computer, but it's happened for several in a row now. Seems like an encoding error.

What great games between JYS and NesTea.

Glad you're getting interested. It's odd how much fun it can be to watch.

That said, I think Day9 does a far better job with the Day9 Daily than Husky or HDStarcraft ever do with their analysis and videos. He manages to be both more entertaining and more knowledgeable about the game. Highly recommend watching Day9.

It is indeed an encoding error. At first I thought my PC was wigging out but after a bunch of fiddling it really is just the video.

GSL Season 3 - Round of 64 - Day 1 - Results

The NesTea/Jys match was awesome. Jys had a legitimate shot to take out NesTea but made some mental blunders. That kid had some serious skills, though. Sen almost lost as well but saved his ass in game 3 with some crazy burrow macro. The final 3 matches were all pretty one-sided.

That's a bummer. Then again, I'd prefer that if there's gonna be a screw up, it be in the ro64.

No, I am gonna have to disagree with Thin_J here and say Day9 videos are anything BUT entertaining for new comers. His humor.... is well what you'd expect your typical mid-late 20s super-geeky and starcraft-referential humor to sound. And his shows one hour+. And most of the 'edumacational' benefits of his casts will go right over your head, if you're just starting to watch these things.

Husky/HDStarcraft videos are far 'shorter' by comparison, most of them are between 10-20 min, and it usually spans over just one match. And if you're not really in it to learn it, those matches will be more entertaining than day9's whose casts are more lessons than streams. It's easy to tune out Husky/HDstarcrafts mumblings, it's not as easy however trying to watch a match purely for yourself if it's constantly being paused.

HOWEVER, the 'edumacational' value is almost NON-existent in the Husky/HDstarcraft videos. Don't watch Husky/HDstarcraft to really learn about Starcraft. At the most, watch those videos get a feel for the basics of the game, and graduate to Day9 as soon as you can understand it (and/or tolerate it)..... who will then proceed to tear apart almost everything Husky/HDstarcraft 'taught' you, and then only then make you a good (and/or knowledgeable) player. Seems redundant? Yes, kind of, not really. If you skip immediately to Day9, there's a good chance you're going to let most of his almost mind-blowing lessons and tips go right over your head, while seeing zero improvement in your actual play.

Thanks for the breakdown. Good to know there's a progression from the fan-ishness of Husky to more in-depth analysis with Day9.

I've always been terrible at RTS games. Age of Empires, Dawn of War, Warcraft III - I don't play enough to get good at multi-tasking, and without those skills, the game is difficult, i get frustrated, then I don't play enough...you see the cycle

Somehow, watching the Husky replays helped me figure out some basic terms (macro, micro, build order, counters) and it actually translated into me doing better in the single player campaign. I'll check out Day9 too and see if it goes over my head, and decide if I enjoy games for the breakdown as much as the casual cast.

Pistols at dawn sir. Day9 is the most hilarious internet "celebrity" ever.
