The Witcher 2 Catch-All

Damn it, Scratched! You're making the final days feel like years.

No doubt. God dammit.

Preloading, I can taste Geralt in my mouth already.

Is that a pre-order bonus?

No, but you'll get a downloadable KingGorilla card

Witcher 2 pre-orders hit 111,842, Polish edition pre-orders maxed

How long ago was THQ blowing their trumpet about 200k preorders for Homefront across 3 platforms? TW2 is only on PC, by an independent studio, and doesn't have a zillion dollar advertising spend behind it. Sounds good from where I'm sitting.

Most of my gaming friends are buying it on launch, and those are people who usually pirate pretty much anything. It is making some waves, got to tell you. Which is nice and I hope they make gazillion of dollars.

The thing I like is where there was some leak up on a pirate site, and all the comments were extremely negative, saying something along the lines of "What the hell are you doing pirating this? A developer bends over backwards for the gamers making a great game with no DRM and you still rip them off". This is a game that has pirates turning on each other (is that still a mutiny?) rather than the usual entitled groupthink.

I went to sleep hoping, when I woke up, it would be Tuesday. But it's still Friday and Scratched is still tormenting me with videos of a game I can't play. ::shakes fist::

Arrrrrrrrrrgh.

That's me hoping.

It has to be Chopin, yet I looked in vain for past twenty minutes trying to figure out which op. it is.

edit: HA!

TF2 has 3 Witcher items for a Steam purchase.

Speaking as someone who wrote a research paper on mutiny, yes mutiny among pirates is still mutiny.

Another split second message in one of the latest trailers:

Really poor capture, but it's readable.

Pre-ordered it on GoG.

It's quite appropriate that they chose Chopin considering he was Polish. I studied piano for a very long time (although I don't play much anymore), and Chopin is probably my favorite composer. The nocturnes are so incredible.

Now there's a compelling reason to spend some points in magic.

Just noticed this...

Well... Valve making a late push for Steam pre-orders huh?

I'm still waiting. Mostly because I haven't finished the first one. But also because it's single player and I don't quite feel the rush to play through those in the first week. I picked up DAO and the first Witcher well after the fact and still enjoyed the hell out of them for sub $20. So I guess I'll be avoiding this topic after Tues for a while. But you guys have fun.

To those have already pre-loaded via GOG: how big was the download?

9602 of 9723MB downloaded. That's not including the bonus stuff.

I have the Steam version, but I'm hoping the download size is similar, and it gives you the option not to download the extras since 10 gigs will probably take 3 to 4 hours for me already.

Well, I haven't bought a game at full price in forever, but I felt they seem like they're taking a lot of user feedback into consideration so I broke my drought and got it from GoG.

One question, I'm not that really into any of the free games, but which one would probably be the best bet. The only one I've played out of the group is Divine Divinity, but I found it somewhat grindy(I played it a few years ago), and it sort of aged badly in that regard. If there's any way to gift the free game to anyone else with a GoG account, I'll be glad to for the first regular that asks.

I doubt it, most steam games with extras just have them in a subfolder of the install, and won't let you launch until it's all downloaded. The only two ways around this I can see is if miraculously steam manages to download the game files first before the bonus files (edit: and then directly run the TW2 .exe if it's not tied into steam, which it probably is for steamworks), but I don't think it can prioritise like that, or if the bonus was offloaded onto the GOG servers (click here to download bonus items), which I don't think they will do.

The steam page lists TW2 as 16GB which sucks as they didn't get to do a preload. That would probably take me a solid day of non-stop downloading, which I'm hesitant to do with "unlimited" and "fair use" policies around, I'm more comfortable spreading it over a few days. Besides the other benefits, knowing there was a preload was why I went with GOG. An intangible that matters.

Just watched all four recent videos again. CDProjekt does some of the best animations out there. I still think the opening (before the game starts) and ending sequences of the original game are two of the best I've ever seen.

They've also given Geralt so much personality in the trailers, with little to no dialogue -- just his look and movements say a lot about him. I'm not sure anyone mentioned him in the ultimate badass thread from a few months back, but I think he's right up there.

Is it Tuesday yet?

I hope it's not Tuesday. I have L.A. Noire and The Witcher 2 dropping.

Eesh. I'm sorry, girlfriend. Please don't dump me.

Tuesday is my third (and probably last) wedding anniversary.
