Penguin's Ohio S&T 10-23-10 (Reach, Mario Kart, Rock Band 2, Board Games, and Beer)

So, to anyone who brought a 360 - You now have a piece of me. Check your white controllers and if you see the initials MAH engraved next to the battery slot, you've got my white controller. I just swiped someone else's, so it's all good.

Otherwise, excellent times, and a lesson learned: Never start a game of the BSG board game at 2:30 in the morning. And never trust Crispy.

Did you guys actually finish that game? Also, I can't believe you fools fell asleep! I still haven't gone to sleep! Great meeting you all and I just wish I had takeen some pics to put faces to names!

Tons of fun. Thanks to everyone (especially the hosts) for making it a great time! Sorry I had to bring the two video game ringers from Michigan

Yes, we finished, and the humans ended up winning, which is apparently rare. We were aided by the fact that the Cylon who started with a cylon card also got the second one, so we only ever had one cylon working against us. It was also someone who had not been a cylon before (Crispy). So he may not have entirely grasped how much he could screw us.

Painful hangover post.

Great times! Thanks for putting up with Scott (Life Coach) 'n I. Your community is the good times. If you hate me forever for bombarding everybody with fortune cookies, that's probably appropriate. I also do not apologize for ending everybody's sh*t in Street Fighter 17 wins in a row, trolling my 4th and last place-ness in Halo, and for winning the grand overarching tournament by giving myself 999,999,999 points for drinking way too much of your beer and trusting Scott and I with serving Tequila shots and mixing our own suicide concoctions which led to a lot of stumbling-yelling. Oh and I don't know how the cops were alarmed twice but if nobody knows how that happened, DGR claims full responsibility.

Epilogue sidenotes:
- Scott feels bad for giving the one guy his sixth tequila shot that made him practically break his own neck slumping in a chair and when he stood up, fell through a cubical wall.
- I think nobody remembered to clean the mound of puke on top of the brick wall to the parking lot. Our bad.
- We never figured out who passed out on the toilet between 4am and 5am.
- Holy balls Battlestar Galactica is a long game.
- Halo Zombie mode can eat a circle of dicks.
- I am really bad a Rock Band drums. Props to the guy whose name I forgot who worked me in that RB tourney.
- Exercise mats are really comfortable when you're drunk, but are intolerable to sleep on sober.
- I forget the names of the two guys I was playing Mario Wii with where we were insulting each other nonstop, but that was hilarious.
- My voice hurts from being loud and intoxicated. I did not mean to stumble into you if I did.

carrotpanic and BK. Fantastic road trip!

It was great meeting a bunch of you guys in person for the first time and making a bunch of new friends!

I'll post a full rundown of my board game experiences (Dominion, BSG) when I get home. This was my first time playing both of these games and I know what I did wrong in BSG, I can't wait to play again.

OilyPenguin did a freaking incredible job keeping us semi-organized and making sure we all had what we needed to not be hungry or thirsty and have fun!

edit re nsmike/bsg, that's pretty much spot on. More later.

Wait, you guys had people puking in the parking lot and the cops got called twice?

Jeesh. And I thought the BSG game at 2AM was crazy!

We took it to the next level. Midwest.

Kind of a repost from another thread, but thanks to everybody who came out to light up Cleveland. Happy birthday to Oily and thanks to Pyro for lending us an air of legitimacy and fame. Also thanks to Benticore's wife for letting him fly in from St. Louis and draw a wheel of penises on the white board wall.

And, yeah, Rabbit...that's how Cleveland does it.

My small collection of photos from Cleveland:

The board game room was monopolized by a seemingly-never-ending game of the WoW CCG. These three guys were friends of Oily's, L to R, Scott, Matt and Brian, and that's Benticore's elbow on the left:

That was so much fun!

Thank you so much Oily got hosting and having such a great get together. It was a blast on so many levels. Everyone punked out and went to sleep all early at like 4AM and I was still wide awake on that damn Mana Pot I drank.

PS Zombie Mode can suck more then that!

Oh, it wasn't that bad, the first time the company above the one were were in armed the alarm on us.

So tired, you guys. So tired.

Thanks, everyone for coming. It seemed like everyone had a blast. Mike, thanks for posting pictures.

Thanks to the DGR guys for living up to the name. Scott, thanks for trying to poison everyone.

I'll put up some more pictures as I get them.

I'm still not at 100% yet.

It's been said enough, but I'm going to say it again: great job Oily. Last night was some of the most fun I've had in a while. Hats off to the community being full of very friendly, intelligent, and generous people. The fact that I got to share beers with people I met through the Dawn of War 2 tournament, TF2 nights, or random forum posters is very surreal experience considering some of the other forums I've posted on in the past. I look forward to hanging out with everyone again either for another S&T, or even just to shoot the sh*t if you're in the area.

Now that the gratitude is out of the way, last night was pretty ridiculous. Oily setup a pretty intense schedule of tournaments. The idea was that people would donate to Child's Play, play in their choice of ten or so games, and rack up a score from their placement that led to a final end prize. Fantastic idea in concept, but when the Halo tournament took three hours to complete, the concurrent Rock Band solo tournament takes almost just as long, and people start to relax from their intense journeys to get to the location (see also: drink), the importance of all that dwindles faster than an excited DJ Incompetent runs down the hall while double-fisting a beer with some horrible poison of a mixed drink. Add to that the seemingly constant tripping of the office security system that triggers a call to the cops. I guess they were cool about it because I never saw a light show of blue and red show up to the doorstep. Maybe next year.

I find that the whole night was short. For all the fun I had, there were plenty of people I did not get to know better. I attribute it to me reaching a level of drunkenness that turned me off the idea of attempting to learn any of the fantastic board games that were floating around, with the exception of the critically-acclaimed Weinhandler.

There’s so much more to add about the night. I haven’t even mentioned the silliness that occurred in Pyroman’s recording space.

So yeah, BSG.

To start off with, on one of the very first turns we had a vote and I anti-voted too strongly, and it was pretty clear it was me or... one or two other people.

The rest of the game I felt like I was pretty muted, as NSMike can attest to and didn't do much. The crew of the BSG were doing pretty poorly by themselves, and because of where I was seated I couldn't read the board to see the Cylon actions. I had been told that they were horribly effective, but as this was my first game, I wasn't thinking about it too much. It wasn't until it was toward the end after I had been dealt the second Cylon card that I started trying to be a little more active, but it was too little too late. I revealed myself on the second or third turn from the end and I was going to try to give a Cylon card to another player to make them a Cylon, as my Cylon Super Crisis card or whatever it was, wasn't too useful... but I was one turn too late in trying to use it.

So yeah, next time I think it should be much more interesting, can't wait to play it again.

Dominion was also a lot of fun but not hard to learn, very sad we only played one game of that. Then people pussied out and got "tired" or "drunk".

Pussies.

Outside of our boardgaming, meeting OilyPenguin, cyrax, Phish, NSMike, trueheart, the rest of the Goodjers, OilyPenguin's local friends, and the DGR crew was great. Without restating what I said earlier, I really can't wake for next year and the LAN party.

EDIT: That's what I thought about BSG anyway, I'd be very interested to know what others thought about our game. I dunno if there's another thread or not.

I think that silliness will be revealed in time.

Podcast folks: look, let's be honest... you're going to have to make some pretty big cuts for the release version but I would really love a bit more... uncut version of the CC if you can swing it. I don't know if the other places were as rowdy as we were but it's a pretty good thing you kept muting us.

Last night was a huge success, failed tournaments or no and as bad as I feel right now (and i gotta tell you, I ain't right at present), I'm really looking forward to getting this going again next year.

We might need to make that a weekend, though. Kind of pace things a bit =)

good call with the video, cheeto!

I have pictures as well, but I wanted to get this loaded. It is the entire set up.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=988T_...

PS It is 9pm and I am just now going to bed. This work weeks is going to be rough.

*Edit* i am uploading more videos if you just click on my youtube user name.

First of all, huge thanks to oilypenguin for organizing the whole shebang. It was jaw-dropping from start to finish and he deserves a ton of credit for providing us all with such an incredible opportunity.
I don't think enough can be said of the Rock Band setup. The huge projector and pro sound setup was top-notch.
I kinda remember trying to play some coop Halo:Reach with pyroman, but I'm pretty sure we just stayed in the same place and died over and over.
Playing Dominion with Crispy, Cyrax, trueheart78 and my friend JP, with Lupus and NSMike providing coaching was great fun. I need to play more of this game. Perhaps a board game night for the SW Ohio and N Kentucky Goodjers is going to be necessary.

That was the appearance of the Scott Pilgrim game. We managed to eat the vegan before the system was taken over for the Halo tournament. Thanks to Eric for buying it for the event!

I think you mean Life Coach

I uploaded some pictures I took here.

I think this was Halo towards the beginning of the day before everyone arrived.

I gave the WoW TCG a shot. It... didn't go so well. I think it needed more time for me to learn it. Starting top left and going clockwise, OilyPenguin, NSMike, TigerBill, Brian (local friend), and Scott (also a local friend, I think).

OilyPenguin going over plans

Another shot of us playing Dominion

Folks playing Weinhandler

Folks playing Rock Band. Left to right, I think the first guy is a local friend of OilyPenguin's, then Pyroman, OilyPenguin is watching, I think it's Life Coach (thanks carrotpanic) from DGR, then Phish. I'm not sure what Phish is laughing at.

There are a few more pictures of them playing Rock Band in the parent directory as well.

Fixed, thanks.

At some point tomorrow, I'll post about what I'm doing with all the crap left behind.

We had some S&T posters that weren't claimed, if you ordered some and you were going to pick it up yesterday... uh, we failed =) so I'll mail it out to you.

We still have a ton of those sweet Dragon Age posters too, I can mail those out as well.

As for the games left behind, a lot were taken but I'll try to trade them in for cash probably and donate that to CP. Except for Parappa, I will treasure that always ;p

Oh I have an entirely unmuted track that has our end of the conversation, but I think it'll be pretty hard to get it into anything approaching a coherent conversation.

Thanks to Oilypenguin and friends for setting this up. Probably the most epic and crazy S&T I've ever been to. Thanks to everybody that I got to meet and sorry I didn't get to know more of you, I got pretty drunk and had a hard time making coherent conversation The DGR guys were awesome as well and I can't brag enough about the Rock Band setup. I was pretty much "done" with Rock Band for like a year or so but that setup just put it in an entirely new light. I'm really excited about getting Rock Band 3 and cranking the speakers. I got am going to buy a copy of Weinhandler, pretty damn fun.

Let it be know that Cleveland f*cking rocks tits when it comes to parties, dudes.

Good times, hopefully this get more Ohio S&T action going on. I'm also all about a lower-key boardgame night with the Cinci/N. Ky Goodjer crew.

That looks awesome.

Oh...oh...I almost forgot.

To whichever distinguished gentleman brought us what amounted to a refrigerator full of Yuengling:

God bless you, sir.

Just...

...bless you.

That would be the man, myth and legend that is the distinguished SuperDave.
