Dammit, now I have to choose between a Chicago S&T and Oily's!

I know we have two Michiganders who post somewhat infrequently, plus some people up north, any lurkers? Enough to add up for a local one?

I don't know about a local one. Chicago is closer to me than to have to turn around and head downstate. It's about 6 hours to Chicago or 10 hours to Detroit to give you a time frame about where I'm at.

Wow! I have no idea how to react to someone knowing of my existence, but I am certainly pleased. I hope it comes together! I'd offer my place but it's kinda smallish and it would be a lot of work to disguise how filthy it usually is. There are networked Xboxen, however, and if location is the sticking point I will make best efforts!

Ottawa Goodjers, we meeting up? I sent a note to the mailing list.

Edit: Can't seem to hit the mailbox for some reason. Anyone else mind starting?

Oily's about 3 hours away from me in SE Mich, which sounds pretty good to me.

And Done.

Edit: No, nevermind. Seems I can't send the e-mail either.

I'm down for a Chicago S&T, though I don't have the time, resources, or party games-- analog or digital-- to host something myself. Anyone else up for hosting in the Windy City? I'd crash Oily's party, but 6 hours away is about 5 hours too far

Just out of curiosity, I ran the numbers for a round-trip ticket to Cleveland from Lisbon, Portugal. Pretty cheap!

Those flights aren't going to book themselves, people. Get to where you want to go and then make someone pick you up from the airport.

If anyone is hosting in Arizona, hopefully in Tucson, let me know! I know there's at least a handful of us on here but i'm unable to host for a variety of reasons. Also, the 23rd is the day after my birthday, so having a GWJ S&T would make it even sweeter.

Same problem here.
I sent an e-mail to Parallax Abstraction who runs the domain. His email address is on the same domain, and that seemed to go through. We'll see if he can fix it, otherwise we can just make a thread the old fashioned way. I see new Ottawa grinders all the time, anyways - and maybe we can convince some Toronto folk to come up. I still owe Clem a few beers.

So this like what we do ever other week or so in with the LA goodjers?

I guess I'll take some photos, all professional like to make it specialer.

You guys up for it, Kazar, Deadlift? Who else is in LA?

4 player couch co-op at my place?

Ottawa guys - mailing list should be working now, and you should have gotten a message from me. PM me if you didn't get it.

Can I get one too? I'm not an 'Ottawa' guy but I'm about an hour and a half away.

The more the merrier! I can't access the e-mail list from work, so if you pm'd your e-mail address to Dysplastic or Parallax Abstraction, I'm sure they'd be happy to add you.

1: Brilliant. Hedgewizard and Amoebic are truly King and Queen of Goodjer Homecoming.

2: BNP as the "Elijah" at the table is perhaps the most awesome idea ever. Put a tophat in his chair.

3: I think A live show and a pre-recorded message are possibilities. I'll talk to the management. I know people.

4: Anyone for Coffee and a game in Western Ma? Not up for a big hosting thing, but I could totally be down for a little classic S&T action in my neck of the woods.

Realizing that I'm neither an organizer nor host of any of these events I'm hesitant to toss this out there, but what the heck. Here's a thought. Since this thing has taken on a life of it's own and is turning into a massive international S&T, what if we were to do something like turning it into an informal Child's Play event as well? We'd be a bit early, I don't think CP kicks off until November if I recall correctly, but that shouldn't be a problem. We could go as simple as every attendee bringing $5-10 to pitch in for a joint sitewide donation. Or we could get people to donate items and do some fundraising auctions, etc.

I'm not trying to turn a lighthearted drunken weekend into a serious downer, just thought it might be a nice way to kill two birds with one stone.

Great idea. Consider it done for mine.

A buddy of mine is kind of a big wheel in the Development department for Akron Children's hospital and we've run a couple of child's play events before (CHMCA is on the child's play list), so I can turn this over to him for the Ohio one since he was coming to my S&T anyway. I'll send him an email now.

Sweet. And Akron Children's is one of the reasons I'm such a supporter of Child's Play actually. My oldest was in their NICU for a few days right after her birth. It wasn't for anything as serious as it sounds (NICU is a scary term) but the experience, and the amazing care and treatment we got from Akron Children's staff, is not something I'll forget.

Awesome, you couldn't have had your kid in a better facility. You'll actually meet 3 former and 1 current employee at the S&T as I and most of my friends have worked there at one point or another.

And I talked to my friend, he's thrilled to organize a fundraiser for us and is already bursting with ideas. Unfortunately, GWJ is blocked at CHMCA but we're going to talk more about it later.

The plan is to come up with a plan and post it in a thread here so everyone can use and tweak it with their own ideas. Hopefully Captsillypants will do it but if not, I'll toss a thread up when we have something coherent.

Great! I look forward to seeing what he come's up with, and if you need any help let me know.

Heh, and in the interest of full disclosure, we actually had both our kids at Hillcrest. It's where my wife's doc was and my best man's mom was the nurse in charge up there. We use Akron Children's for everything else though, though of course we prefer not to use them, if you know what I mean

That sounds fantastic to me, I was unable to make the last one earlier this summer!

Great idea! I am really interested to hear what suggestions boil up out of your various conversations on this thread. I think the right way to go is to have each independent S&T on the 23rd gather the funds/manage their event that then rolls up into a GWJ-proper contribution.

Great idea! How do we make it happen? I reviewed a little on the link, and I think there are a couple of ways we could go with this. Any further thoughts? I like the idea of having each S&T on the 23rd gather funds, that are rolled up into one larger offering via GWJ proper.

Same here, I shot a publicity request to the call earlier today because I don't want to handle funds for all the parties. We should set up a central paypal account and have someone relatively public host it just so we can all know who is accountable for the $. I would prefer that all donations came from "GWJ" and not a dozen "goodjers in X."

That effort should really get its own thread, I was going to put one up once I talked to my fundraising buddy and came up with some basic ideas but if someone wants to beat me to the punch, have at it. I'm hanging out with him tomorrow so we'll probably have lunch and discuss this with a few others that I've done Child's Play fundraisers with in the past.

This will absolutely work, we just need to work kind of fast with only 5 weeks left =)

I agree, a GWJ-wide total will have more impact than individual donations. Sure the math adds up the same, but it'll be pretty cool to be able to say "GWJ as a community donated $X". I'll toss a forum post up for discussion.

Edit: Here's the discussion post

PS. I was waiting a while for a meeting to start, and though my GIMP no longer works AND I am a terrible graphic artist, I threw together a quick proof of concept graphic for the event.

Now... if only I knew of some really badass graphic designer who can bring the skillz and make something epic for our gathering...

I actually really like that =) but I got 7inch's attention.

Is there anything going on in Chicago that I missed or no?
