Firearm Hobbyist Catch-All

That is incredible improvement Edwin, congrats.

OK, so now that my name and gender are just about updated, I can now renew my CCP. My biggest thing is that I really want a purse gun. I want a gun that is either 40/45. I know the XDs is out there in both calibers but the XDs is also $700 most places. If there any other purse/pocket pistol, that is accurate, can stop somebody trying to do harm to me with as few shots as possible and cute looking if possible. What I think I really want, is the XDs in purple, but for whatever reason they don't seem to make it that color.

I am open to all suggestions, I just need it to be able to stop somebody in 1-2 shots whilst maybe not being the most accurate.

Gratz Edwin, looks good. Keep it up.

Other than the XDS, the only things similarly sized that come to mind and are available in 45 are more expensive. It's stuff like the Colt Defender ($1000+) or Colt New Agent ($950), or maybe the subcompact models of the M&P ($400-$450ish), or things like the Kahr PM45 ($600).

Personally... for a gun like you're talking, I still say a revolver. Something from the Smith & Wesson airweight series paired with a purpose-designed pocket holster. Pick your caliber. If you want easy to shoot you can get some +P .38 special, or if you're comfortable shooting it out of a lighter gun the .357mag has some serious power. If you go .357 in a Smith airweight (or something like the Ruger LCR) it won't be any fun at the range (your hands will probably start to feel tingly and numbish in places after 6-12 rounds) but it will work every time and be accurate enough for the intended purpose.

642.

That is all I have to say about that.

Any 3" j frame in .38spl will work fantastic. I really like the Wiley Clap GP100. I also highly suggest a M&P shield in 9mm running Hornady Critical Defense. That round is made for small barrel pocket pistols and exceeds the FBI standards (penetrate 4 layers of thick denim and 12"-16" of ballistic gel). They also make a 125gr, 135gr and 147gr varient that do amazing performance.

The shields the best carry gun out there of that size. As for your color, take it to West Coast Armory in Bellevue as they can make it to any color you want. I put it on your Facebook page since I can't copy Facebook links on my phone.

BTW, you should join me for IDPA and Steel Challenge. Also I think lady nights is free or discounted at the range.

SW 442/642 is a good choice. You can get colored grips for them, i have a friends wife who has pink grips of hers. Another good choice is a Ruger SP101 in .357. Do not hesitate to look at Kahr Arms for a small .45 as well. The CM/CT series are considerably cheaper than the P series guns.

Pretty much.

A pocket pistol is exclusively a self defense firearm and is meant to provide deadly firepower just outside of range of a good punch. If you are shooting at someone much beyond that, it is often a difficult case to make that your life was endangered.

Pocket revolvers like these will be plenty accurate to hit torso sized targets up to about 30 feet away. And they offer reliability advantages you just don't get in semiauto holdouts.

Another reason to seriously look at revolvers is they are much easier to use for someone with smaller/ish hands. Small automatics have some seriously strong springs in their slide to make them function properly. Most people who are unfamiliar with them and those of smaller build find it very difficult to pull the slide back to chamber a round. This is not an issue with a revolver.

Whatever you choose, take Edwin's advice and get some proper ammo. I currently run Critical Defense in my SW 442 and Xd 45. I have also carried Winchester Ranger T in both. The GP100 that sits on my nightstand is currently stuffed with some Ranger T. Make sure if you plan to use +P ammo that the gun you choose is rated for it.

Another advantage in the revolver is that it doesn't give a rat's rectum what ammo you choose. It will NEVER hangfire.

Something I forgot to mention earlier, don't do off-body carry (purse carry) if you don't have to. If you have to carry and you've already gotten to the point of being able to wear a bra, get a flashbang holster before you go with off-body carry. This is assuming you aren't willing to do a regular belt holster and I know that's not always possible with women's clothing.

Only NSFW if you work at a prudish place.

Also, if you do get a small revolver (and it looks like we all agree its a good choice), make sure you get Crimson Trace laser grips on it. It really helps makes a difference.

I've never heard of this thing before, but will be pointing any ladies that ask toward it in the future as an alternative, I think, if they're considering purse carry. Based on the video it seems to work very well. And like you I'd tend to advise against carrying in a purse or anywhere off your own body.

Anything off body tends to end up in the "Leftit" category. I leftit in the car.......

If only I had $3k for this beauty.

What is it? I can't see it because I don't have 50 posts.

It's a Tangfolio Stock III Large Frame in 9mm.

Seems like a lot to spend on a cz 75.

Beauty isn't the word I'd use...

Purty

True that. I have heard good things about them but that doesn't mean I would do that. For that kind of money you can get a very trick 1911 or even STI 2011.

Where is the front sight? They put the nice Bo-Mar on it but there does not even seem to be a dovetail for the sight. I would be very upset to find that gun uses a pinned sight and not a dovetail.

I do like the finish, but I've never been a fan of the CZ's/Tanfoglio's aesthetics. The squared triggerguard is especially jarring in my eyes.

Yeah...

Was my thought as well. It's just a silver Italian made SP01. Don't really see the appeal, and .... I could build the AR10 style rifle I've wanted for ages for that kind of money. With a super quality optic on top. Yeesh.

Eh, I think the aesthetics on most of the CZ's are fine. The things that make that gun look tacky are the finish. And yeah the squared off trigger guard is weird.

I picked up a, new to me, Benjamin Discovery PCP in .22 this weekend. It is stock except it already has a TKO brake installed. This will be my first foray into pre-charged guns, but by far not my first air gun. I will end up rebuilding the valve and all internals to get a bit more power and a lot higher shot count. I am currently using a hand pump to charge, but I will likely upgrade to a carbon fiber SCBA tank in the future. I will use it primarily for hunting, but it will still shoot some targets in the yard as well.

Anybody else here into air? Bonus for PCP experience.

I have a different kind of PCP experience.

I have a line on a stripped Dillon 550 press (frame, crank assembly, main shaft). Press is in good shape and the shaft moves up down freely and smoothly. Think I should get it for $150 or hold out for a Square Deal/650?

Forgot about this:

Some interesting info posted on HKPro: (emphasis mine)

I walked right into that didn't I?

Hold out for the 650 on the Dillon. The auto index is worth what they want for it. If you don't plan to load rifle, get a Square Deal. It will save a few duckets. If you do plan to load rifle, but not in volume get the SD and a Rockchucker. You could also be a complete loon like me and end up with 2 rockchuckers, 1 MEC Sizemaster and a SD on the way. I have a friend with a 650 that will load anything I work up in volume.

I would like to do rifle in the future (2 gun) but it probably won't be anytime soon (next 5 years).

My airguns arsenal is limited to an MP5 clone and a pistol/carbine convertible "Morph". Both made by Umarex, both shoot BBs, both use C02. Both are big hits at barbecue parties.

I have looked at several of the full auto guns by Umarex. I would have fun with them but I just lean more toward target and hunting with air these days. I guess like regular full auto it is the most fun if it belongs to someone else.
