NBA 2K11 - Wow!

Man. I played my old team the Nuggets on my SG My Player with the Bulls now. Probably the best half I ever had. 12-13 shooting, including 3-3 3s, 32 points, 9 reb, 1 ast, 3 stl. Matched the other team's entire total of 32 points.

Hey guys remember that NCAA mod for 2k11 I posted about a while back? Looks like they got some other people involved, expanded it, and released a "final" version today.

Sounds like I might want to pick this up on PC after all. Although I've been playing CH2k8 and having a blast, I do love the 2k11 engine. If it's on the Steam summer sale I'll definitely have to pick it up.

And there were a couple patches mentioned that are now out. Hopefully this is everything.

Mod (Also at this link can click on optional files for extra mod stuff, reskins part of the game as NCAA I think?)

Roster Fixes

Anyone else playing this actively on the 360? It's playoff time again and I'm considering picking this up again because I'm in the mood to play hoops.

Still playing My Player on PS3 every few days.

And I've been having a blast with the NCAA Mod on the PC version. They keep tweaking it and are now up to 89 teams.

Playoffs finally got me in the mood to try an Association with my Pacers.

Managed to dump TJ Ford (and Dunleavy) for Michael Redd. No way I was going to play Ford, and at least Redd is as good or better than the other SGs I had.

Still with 14 guys on the roster and only 12 actives, minutes are tough to come by. I set the rotation and roles but the auto-subs coach doesn't follow it at all. He puts in the role players and not the sixth man guy who has more mpg set. I don't get it. I really don't want to deal with manual subs for 82 games...

Also, what do I do with those reserve guys? Should I send them down to the d-league and hope they improve? Unless someone gets injured they're not going to play, and even then they might not get more than 5 minutes in the rotation. Seems useless to have them just sitting there. Not sure how the d-league stuff works, if they will still be under contract and I can just call them back up if I need them?

Any other association advice?

Usually with bottom of the roster guys like that I group them in two or three and see what pops up in the trade finder. Houston is usually keen on getting rid of Hasheem Thabeet, who is reasonably useful despite a very low OVR (B rebounding, B post-d) Can usually also smuggle a second round pick away too, which is always helpful as trade bait. In any case I usually either go with a 8 or 10 man rotation, depending on my team's build.

Let's see...

1. Collison
2. Redd
3. Granger
4. Hansbrough
5. Hibbert

That's a pretty good starting 5, since they made Hansbrough decent in the later updates. They could be better, but I assume you have something of a connection with the teams you actually like. I'd see if you can't beef up your backups. Getting rid of Posey and Foster (Dunleavy too but you handled that) for cap reasons is a pretty good idea. Sacramento, Minnesota, and I believe Washington are among the few teams with cap space enough to take them.

Backing up Redd solidly is probably a good idea. If I'm not mistaken he's a solid perimeter shooter but lacking on defense and nothing special athletically. I'm a big, big proponent of Wesley Johnson in 2k11. Every time I sim a season he's got over 1.5 SPG and 1 BPG, and you just don't see that often. Really nice combo of defense and slashing ability (he can initiate dunks from pretty far out).

Patrick Patterson is very nicely built stat-wise if you want another PF, but his trade value is a bit high and I don't know if the Pacers have a lot of good bait.

Well Posey seems solid enough, if I could get the game to put him in as a small PF instead of at SF. I keep fighting with the auto-subs. The real Pacers play George at SG, but Redd is just a bit better at this point. Although for a few games since the trade I left the starting 5 alone and had Redd as the 6th man, just lowered George's starting minutes. It is interesting so far because he really gives me a perimeter threat off the bench. Granger or Hibbert get most of my touches when the starters are in, but as the 6th man Redd has got the player of the game award the last 2 games I played. His good shooting is improved by playing against backup defense I guess.

I have tried shopping for another PF/C but not much luck so far. I just want something a) better than Foster's 66 overall or b) the same rating but younger.

Also I laugh at the game's definition of roles. It demands 29+ minutes for starters. But looking at the playoff stats, the Pacers had both Hibbert and George at 26 per game. Will players get upset with a starting role but a few less minutes?

Also looking at playoff stats, the Pacers played 11 guys every game, lowest average minutes is 11. TJ Ford is the 12th, who only got in minutes when Collison was hurt. That seems similar to my rotation except that I had to pick one of my SGs, D. Jones or Rush, to be that last man out since I dumped Ford. Both are pretty even, except age, where Jones is 30 and Rush is 25.

Thanks for the tips on teams. I think Sacremento did offer me a PF when I put Foster on the block. I'll have to try that again and look closer. After trading Ford and Dunleavy I'm only like 200k over the cap or so for this season, not too bad.

The funniest part is that Vogel isn't listed on the staff. And it won't let me modify the coaches after I started already. So I'm stuck with O'Brien. If I click on him, it says I don't have enough budget to fire him so I have to keep him. I guess the game doesn't deal with things like most real teams do, letting me just promote an assistant? Not that the coaching matters a ton, I just wanted to make it accurate. I guess the roster updates don't bother to fix coaching? It appears my rosters are from April, so it should be end-of-season stuff.

Well I got another trade to go through. Just poking around to see if anyone wanted B Rush since he's unhappy that D Jones is getting the good bench minutes at SG. Clippers offered DeAndre Jordan (6'11" 66 overall C) and Craig Smith (6'7" 62 overall PF) for Rush and Posey. Sure it's two mid-60s guys for two 70-1 guys. But the salary different was huge, like 9 mil this year for both vs 3 mil for both. And Jordan is just what I was looking for, a same-as-Jeff-Foster-but-younger-and-cheaper-Center.

So now I have Jeff Foster at 6mil and right at 6mil of cap room as well, to go out and get one more solid bench piece if I need it.

Not entirely sure what I need to beef up at this point.
PG - Collison 77, Price 69
SG - Redd 75, Jones 75, (Stevenson 62 in D-L right now)
SF - Granger 82, George 74
PF - Hansbrough 74, McRoberts 66, Smith 62
C - Hibbert 77, Jordan 66, Foster 66, S Jones 53

I guess I could use a stronger backup PG, although Price seems solid enough. McRoberts isn't amazing at PF, but he's so cheap, like 800k, that he's a value. I suppose I could go after an 80+ PF/C, attempting to trade my starter along with Foster...

Anyway, first game after the trade we lost, in one of the more ridiculous games I've seen. Atlanta came out hot, Crawford went 3-4 from 3, and as a team they shot like 60% for the game. But despite being down 14 starting the 4th, I made a furious run, mostly with Redd. He went 7-9 from 3, mostly in the 4th, and we cut it down to 4. Got a steal off the inbound, missed a shot, Hibbert got the off reb, and I tried to kick it out to Redd to cut it to 1 with about 25 sec. left, but the pass got intercepted. They made their FTs after that and Redd missed his last shot to fall to 7-10 from 3 and finish with 31 points. He totally deserved player of the game in a loss, even though they don't do that. 31 pts, 4 reb, 3 stl, and he spent most of the 4th quarter with those bars under him flashing red, as he hit 3 after 3 and got steals.

Finally got "The Closer" trophy, hold an opponent scoreless for the final 2 min. Denver had closed to tied with me at 33 on a 7-0 run to start the 4th. Then I went on an 11-0 run the last 3:50 to win by 11.

Still no solid trades for Foster.

I did tweak the lineup after a bad loss and go ahead and let Redd start, with Rush at SG and George at SF. I think the auto-subs is working better with that, it must have been the "playing a SF at SG and SG at SF both that was screwing it up? The starting lineup seems a lot more effective this way, although I'm still not sure about the bench. I'd really like some stronger frontcourt players in there to rebound. Oh well, 70-something games to go still, I'll figure it out.

Blind, or anybody else that played assoc... any ideas about the D-League? I do have those guys on "reserve" status that never play. Assuming I could sent them down to the DL and still call them up if I ever have any serious injury problems. Will it improve their ratings at all?

EDIT: Other forums seem to say yes, they will improve, but it will take several games, weeks, or months. If they play the whole D-League season they can get a few points better, more than they would sitting on the bench. Going to try it with Lance Stevenson.

Well just for the hell of it I offered up PF C Smith (62) and Foster, to see what I could get out there. The Warriors offered me PF David Lee (82) and asked for a 1st round pick in 2012. Had to take it, the chance to get another 80+ in the starting lineup is amazing, and I got rid of the 6mil hanging over Foster.

Then for final measure I tossed up my 53 overall C, Solomon Jones to see if I could just get a backup PG, in case anything happens to one of mine. I've got lots of depth and guys than can switch between SG/SF/PF, but only the two PGs. Again, the Warriors came through, offering me Acie Law (61). Good enough.

Roster is down to a solid 12 now, ages 20-31 (Redd's the old guy :D). Have a 10 man rotation rated from 66 to 82, and 8 of those above 73. And nearly 5mil of cap room, although I don't know what I'd do with it now.

Only a couple games left in Nov, about a full month into the season, and this team is looking good. Tied for 1st in the Central with Chicago, and 2nd overall in the East. Go Pacers!
