NBA 2K11 - Wow!

Pages

I have not spent a significant amount of time with an NBA game since NBA Live '95. I had a roommate that loved the NBA, and we played it, and NBA Jam a ton. But I just kind of got away from the NBA, and really preferred the college games. I always take a look and consider spending some time with an NBA game, but usually just get bored. With no college games, and quite a few former Jayhawks now playing well in the NBA, my interest is piqued again.

Then I saw this video, and I'm just blown away.

I know I don't really have time for another sports game right now. But I'm sitting here rationalizing my way to spending $60 for this.

I would be buying this if gamefly hadn't shipped this to me yesterday. I can't wait for it to arrive! '95 Knicks here I come.

Man.. I want this so badly. I haven't played a bball game since 2k3 but this has sold me. The demo alone was fantastic, and the Jordan challenges oh man. I just don't know which platform to get it for.

Really tempted by the PC version as it's cheaper, but I love playing on the couch 360/PS3.

I need to finish up stupid Alan Wake and sell it while it's worth something so I can get this!

If I had time for more than 2-3 sports games, i'd be all over this. But NHL 11 seems to be pretty solid, and FM 11's slated for November 5th, I just don't have time to really enjoy a title like this the way i'd want to (and 2K games are always deep enough to merit spending some serious time learning and mastering).

I rented 2K10 a while ago, and after finding the right sliders, while I never really played more than a few games, it was amazing.

Yeah, 2K10 looked really good and this year looks even better. I haven't played an NBA game in a while but I am very interested. How was the vs computer play in 2K10?

Playing it tonight. I really love it so far. So many classic teams to play with. So much fun playing that first game they highlight in Jordan's career. I love the nostalgia. It's safe to say that I want 2K to come out with all classic, online playable DLC. It's been a joy to run the court with my favorite player, Pippen, and dish off to Hodges and Paxson.

I didn't even realize the PC version came out because I thought it'd be available as a digital download. I might pick it up from Best Buy on the way home from work.

EDIT: Good thing I stopped at home first. It's on Steam.

How is the Steam version? I'm sorely tempted by the game, and $30 on PC seems about right for a game I probably won't put a ton of time into.

Another thing I dig. You can save games during a game and come back later to it. This has seemed like a no-brainer to me since last gen. This way I can play a 8 minute quarter game and won't lose a good game because of life.

Wow, that's awesome. I wish they'd implement that for football!

I've been wishing football games had that for a long time. Especially with hard drive saves it seems like a no-brainer.

Madden had in-game saves for a brief moment, then poof.

Anyway, I've only been doing Jordan Challenges so far, but I LOVE them. The 90's were the absolute height of my interest in basketball, and all the details they've captured (right down to the changing look of Phil Jackson) are spot on. And the gameplay is the best of any b-ball game I've played.

Going to try and pick this up on my birthday if I've got the finances, or see about receiving it for Christmas.

So far, it's pretty solid. Played the NBA Today matchup of NYK vs. MIN, played an exhibition game as MIA v TOR and then I messed around with the '95 Knicks vs. MIN. I'm sad to see that the classic team bench players are mostly generic. I read that some of the classic teams have key bench players. I hope this game does well enough that 2k tries to get more licenses for former players.

I should be getting the 360 version in the mail today from gamefly. I'm curious how they compare.

I played a ton of 2k10 on PC. Thought I'd wait on this one to hear about bugs, patches, etc. They really left PC users hanging last year and I'm hesitant to give them my money again... even for Jordan.

Generally no difference between Steam and retail. 2k9 was steam-only for PC, even retail copies had to register with Steam. Last year did not have that feature. And I haven't heard about this year having it.

The problem with 2k10 on Steam was the one patch PC users did get released about a week early for retail copies. Then the Steam, D2D, and other download versions didn't get their patch until several days later, depending on the service.

I caved on the 360 version today. I played the game they throw you in to start, with the classic Bulls, and man, this game is fun.

Yeah I picked it up too.

I don't think I've cared about a basketball game since NBA Street came out for PS2. Now there's two I want (this + NBA Jam) a couple of weeks apart. Expensive holiday incoming.

Indeed. This is my fall so far. NBA 2k11, Def Jam Rapstar, Enslaved, Halo Reach and then NBA Jam, Kirby's Epic Yarn and on and on. Much busier than I thought. Time to sign up for Gamefly.

I heart you, NBA 2k11.

I'm trying to figure out what it is that always annoys me about sports-game animations. I think it's that nothing really seems like it touches. Hands on the ball, feet on the floor--there's always a little space and a seeming lack of friction there.

Sure looks pretty otherwise, though.

So far there's only one PC review from IGN... and it complains about performance a lot. Anybody with the PC version have any comments on that? Specs of your machine?

I'm still trying to talk myself into waiting for a sale, but the reviews are very good of the gameplay modes.

I have an AMD Phenom 955 with a Radeon 4890 and I run the performance benchmark at 92 fps with 4x AA, everything on high, @1920x1980. Haven't had or noticed any performance issues.

I have a Phenom II X2 550 running at 3.1GHz and a Radeon 5850 1GB card running Win7. I purchased and downloaded last night. I will be home in a few hours to try that puppy out. I will post some performance impressions and benchmark as well but I am thinking AMD rigs might be fine since Gdawg27 seems to have a very similar setup to my own.

At least I hope so. My PC should be a full "generation" better than a 360. If it doesn't run well it probably never will unless there is a great patch.

All is well for me.

I ran at 1600x1200 with everything high and all effects enabled plus 4x AA. In the performance benchmark it told me I got 44FPS. That was constant too. It never got below 42 and never went above 44. I think 44FPS might be as fast as my CPU would go even though my videocard is probably able to do more. It seemed very smooth during my actual playing as well.

I was very relieved. That IGN article makes it sounds like the game is frustratingly hampered by video issues. Not in my case.

Oh god... I really don't need another Sports game, but NCAA 11's gathering rust and my willpower is fading with every screenshot and review. Plus the fact that the only real reason I didn't play NBA 2K10 was time.

Finally saw the Kobe commercial tonight. Funny stuff. My will is caving...

$30 on Steam? WHY MUST YOU HURT ME SO?

Everywhere.

$27 at amazon or something, but you can download it faster than it could get here.

Well, that turns it into a XBOX360/PC decision...

NO WAIT I'M TRYING TO BE GOOD

Oh no the 360 version is $60. PC version is half price with better graphics... I think PC wins pretty easily.
