Official Team Fortress 2 Trading Thread

I may be posting on TF2 Outpost or other trade sites, but this is my first time dealing with an item this valuable so any advice on how to conduct this business is also appreciated.

If it sounds to good to be true ...it is. Don't let them negotiate. If you have a price in mind stick to it someone will pay it. The steam chat request to "talk" will be to beg, plead and annoy to get the price lower. Pretend like you are dealing with a used car salesman.

Thank you for the tips. I've got my "sticker price" and my "haggling price", and I've made the usual forewarnings. If anyone is interested (or just wants to gawk at my asking prices), my Outpost listing is here. I will confess, patience has not been my strong suit as of late. This may be a good exercise. Wish me luck!

I guess you've done your research, but those prices feel low to me. You can put that PKS kit on a Strange Golden Frying Pan and make The Most Expensive Item In TF2. (My fave was the Professional Killstreak Upgrade to Premium, though. )

Oh child, look what I just cashed in:

I got 50 keys for that glitched Universal Professional KS kit. Pretty much exactly what I was hoping to get for it. Would have liked to get more, but this guy was offering pure and trying very hard to get keys to make it happen. I was damn impressed at the professionalism for such a huge trade. It hasn't really hit me that I actually sold the item. I may need to actually get something I want to make this trade hit home, I hear that's what they encourage lottery jackpot winners to do to help them realize that their winnings are real.

Meanwhile, I still have the glitched Universal Specialized KS kit with Team Shine available, if folks are interested.

Time to buy a Medic unusual.

Damn straight. Congrats!

I'm looking for demoman weapons from the new Gun Mettle update. Is anyone willing to trade me? I have a couple rocket launchers and a shotgun I'm willing to part with.

Where can I trade Metal for a Strange Minigun? Is metal still a viable currency anywhere?

Try the classifieds on backpack.tf. Here are the listings for strange minigun.

Check out scrap.tf, they have bots dedicated to trading stranges, skins and just about everything else in between. Skins are kinda saturated right now, may be hard to sell any, but buying should be a cinch. Most of the Strange Miniguns in their bots' inventories are either MvM miniguns or have strange parts attached, but it's a good starting place, I guess.

ukick immediately got me hooked up. Looking forward to breaking it in!

Questions from some jerk who doesn't play this game anymore:

* Is there any point for me to jump in on the whole contract thing now, or should I just pick up skins off the market?
* Can skins be applied to existing strange weapons, or are they new weapons unto themselves?
* Contract progress can only be made on Valve servers, is that right?
* Can you make progress on contracts in MVM?
* Do you get to choose which class you get a contract for?

I've got 3 weeks before school starts up again. Trying to figure out if I want to give this a go.

Also how TF am I still #6 on HLStats? That is some screwed up algorithm there

1) the contracts are entertaining, but you do just get skins if that is all you're after (and a little badge by your name)
2) they are new weapons
3) yes
4) umm, I don't know, I doubt it, most are too specific
5) no, you get 2 or 3 each week, but if you start now you will keep getting as many as will catch you up to where we are now, so you'll probably get like 15 contracts before they stop

You can't fulfill contracts on MvM servers, no.

If you just want the skins, trade for them or buy them on the marketplace, preferably as late as you can tolerate; they'll only get cheaper. (I don't know if they'll go up in value after the Gun Mettle event is over; I doubt it.)

Now, if you got in early, there's a good chance you could have made back your buy-in. I'm a couple bucks up just from selling my swag on to the next chump. I wonder if the next one (you know there'll be a next one) will be as easy to break even on....

I believe even if you start working on contracts now, you will get the same amount as folks who started at the launch of Gun Mettle. So you won't be behind folks as long as you can clear through them before the end of the campaign. I just started working on them a few days ago, and it is a lot of fun.

And don't forget they count on any Valve server, even ones with 4/24 players. Tap your Goodjer friends, we're usually good about helping with others' contracts.

The contracts are pretty fun in their own right. They're analogous to some of the easier achievements in that they ask you to play slightly out of your comfort zone. For example, I just had a medic contract which required ubering demos and uber-takedowns of engineer buildings. So even using my most-played class, it "forced" me to focus on specific, non-traditional actions. Other examples include kills with airblast-reflected projectiles, kills while blast-jumping, or get five kills in a single life.

A fairly complete list of objectives is on the wiki; a contract is three semi-randomly chosen objectives from one section. You can farm the contracts, sure; but it can be fun to just take some time to try them "naturally".

The downside, frankly, is you'll be playing with pubbies. "YMMV" is a massive understatement.

If you're time-starved, better to just play on Mondays and Fridays with the cool kids. If you want a bit of extra pop-in/pop-out TF2 play with pubs with a bit of purpose to your actions, you might give it a try.

Cool, thanks for all the responses guys. I actually knocked out about 5 contracts yesterday. It was way more fun than I thought it would be (except for the sniper contract, since that's my worst class...bleh).

Playing with pubbies wasn't as awful as I thought it might be. I mean, skill level was low but the bad behavior I expected wasn't widespread. I guess it helps that everyone else is focused on their contract objectives too.

Got an offer for the Spec kit, 10 keys. Only has two keys in his BP, not sure where the rest would come from. I would have countered with 15, but I think he'd walk, so I countered at 13 (it is Team Shine, after all). Guy's offline right now, I'll have to wait and see.

Update: He held at 10. I added him and told him to send a trade. We'll see what happens. I think it's about in line with Marketplace value, after the Valve cut, still a bit miffed I didn't get the "Team Shine" bump. If he had come up just one or two keys, I would have been happy. Ah well, keys are keys.

First off, sorry for pulling this thread from the depths. My son has been playing TF2 daily now under my account and is looking for items. He has probably been sending some of you trade requests. If it is a bother to anyone I apologize. If you're feeling nice maybe trade him something, it makes him happy. Miss playing with you guys.
