NFL 2010 - Week 3

What? no theory that Philly rides Vick now because there is a trade deadline looming. If Kolb is still suffering from any effects of the concussion and Vick is showcasing that hes playable why not keep riding him.

I think theres a bunch of wannabe contenders out there that would bite the bullet and jump all over Vick if their main guy went down long term.

edit: after checking some of the depth charts of the theorized teams he could get traded to this is less likely but still a possibility. For example you would assume a defense first team might take a gamble on Vick if their main guy got obliterated but allot of those teams have potentially serviceable backups.

Vick's a terrible choice for a defense-oriented team; those teams want somebody whose first job is to not make mistakes. Vick, for all his mobility, has a very high sack rate, largely because he's traditionally danced around and tried (and failed) to make things happen. The guy's a 54% career passer. His running ability has helped overshadow the fact that he's a really, really lousy QB, and he's always had a few good games here and there that are inevitably followed by simply terrible performances. He's extremely unreliable and makes bad decisions.

The Bills could certainly use a starting QB. Not that I'd see Vick going there, but it's not like there isn't a need for a better starting QB in the league. Arizona? Ummm, yes.

from yahoo sports about the Vick move

While the move is entirely defensible on its face (especially if you aren't too impressed with Kolb), the back story puts Reid and the Eagles' front office in a position where three things can happen, and two of them are bad. The optimal situation is that Vick continues to succeed, the Eagles win a suddenly wide-open NFC East, and everyone goes to heaven in a little rowboat. That's the "Good Ship Lollipop" version. The other versions: Vick falls back to earth, and Reid reverses field by throwing a shattered Kolb to the wolves. Or: Vick fails, Kolb fails, and Reid is left without a viable quarterback. This would be especially bad news if the McNabb-led Redskins were to win the NFC East.

I agree, if this move does not work Philly fans are going to destroy the team.

OK, so where's the post from GameGuru that says "NOT ALL PHILLY FANS ARE GOING TO DO THAT!!"
Apparently, it's only when I make an opinion based on what I hear when every Eagles fan I've listened to talks.

I had an Eagles fan tell me, "yeah, but did you see that pass to DeSean Jackson off his backfoot? He's so much better than he ever was". Mind you, he failed to realize it was against the Detroit secondary.

You heard it here folks, maybe we should put him in the HoF based on one pass.

Vince Young's missing a team meeting last week has been raising eyebrows, especially taking into account what went down Sunday, but now we know why. He was spending time with Steve McNair's sons. Hard to argue his heart being in the right place.

He just went up a thousand notches in my book, classy move by Mr Young.

Right but if Tom Brady goes down its not like NE is ringing up Philly to get Vick to salvage their season.

My point was more that you would acquire a guy like Vick if you felt he could just do enough to make your offense serviceable while your defense wins you games. In theory it makes sense. If the Sanchize goes down week 5 you would think the Jets might entertain the thought of him coming in over a 40 year old Brunell. Same would go for a heavy defense first team like say Baltimore but their backup is Bulger who at this point of his career would be their Trent Dilfer if Flacco were to go down.

By no means am I advocating Vick is any good. Just that he really has no hope of attracting interest from teams like NE/Indy/GB/NO etc because if their QBs go down you pretty much just pack up the season and start planning for the draft.

Also I dont think any team with half a brain wants him as a future starter. But then again Cleveland brought Delhomme in this year so I'm overestimating teams intelligence. So yea Vick will be in a Raider uniform in no time.

You said "half a brain", which rules out Cleveland, as well as Buffalo and Oakland. Actually, I think Al Davis has lots of brains, they're the only meal that keeps his zombie body moving.

Cleveland's intelligence went to Baltimore when the team packed up and called themselves, the Ravens. Aside from one lucky (10-6) season, that franchise hasn't done squat in a long time.

and the story thickens because Philly cant keep their mouth shut and neither can Reid.

The Philadelphia Eagles have received numerous calls about the availability of quarterback Kevin Kolb from several teams, according to a senior team official.

"We have had calls," the team official said Wednesday.

One of the teams to contact the Eagles about Kolb was the Cleveland Browns, whose general manager is Tom Heckert. Heckert was the Eagles' GM before taking over in the same capacity with Cleveland before this season.

When asked Wednesday whether Kolb would be on the Eagles' roster after the Oct. 19 trade deadline, Eagles coach Andy Reid said, "Listen, I can't predict anything down that far, nobody in this league can do that."

errr durrrrrrrrrrr.

Like honestly? Admit to having calls and then go on to say you cant predict if he will be on the roster come the 19th. Boneheads.

edit: Reid also admitted that the concussion isn't an issue anymore. Its as if they are trying to bury the kids confidence before hes even given a chance.

Here's the deal with Philadelphia: If Vick doesn't win them a Super Bowl, this season is an automatic failure. This was supposed to be a year of getting Kolb ready to become an NFL QB, and with that, was the good possibility the Eagles would not do very well. By making this move, with Kolb ready to play, you now thrown out the grooming process for one more year. Instead of knowing if you had an NFL QB or a bust, you will still have an unknown with Kevin Kolb, which means your plan of attack is push along another year, which will possibly be one more year without the Eagles hoisting the Lombardi. At least if you had Kolb, and Kolb failed, and they saw that Kolb was going to in no way be able to lead that franchise to victory, you go out and draft a franchise QB. Best case scenario, Kolb takes the Eagles to about 7-8 wins, you realize this guy has potential to do what McNabb couldn't, they draft offensive line help, and you're ready to compete to earn a chance to go to the Super Bowl.

I do understand the mentality of most Eagles fans, wanting to win as soon as possible, but in this case, the best thing would to give Kolb a chance. And the funny thing is, if they did start him this week, there was a decent chance he would win the game for them. Jacksonville, although no pushover, is not the hardest team in the league either.

Great Googly Moogly. Sorry for just jumping in here, but as an Eagles fan, I was OK with the move to play Vick now and see how far things go. But this just reminds me how clueless Andy Reid is sometimes. You say he (Kolb) is the future of the franchise yesterday and then today say that you're listening to calls from Cleveland about trading for him? Ugh.

Andy Reid has always been someone who makes a plan and sticks to it no matter what happens while the plan is in place. This makes me have to believe that his plan was to have Vick be the starter all along after Kolb had a rough game. The concussion probably just made executing the plan even easier.

Now I don't even know what to think anymore about the Birds. Or at least their head coach and front office.

Jacksonville's big weakness right now is secondary. This is absolutely the week they should be getting Kolb back on the horse.

What I dont get is why start a controversy where one doesn't need to exist.

Tell Kolb the future job is his but you dont want to rush him back from the concussion. Allow Vick to play until he fails which could be as early as this week. Tell media your not going to rush a young quaterback into action after a concussion. Drama averted. Who's going to lam-bast you in the media for being concerned about the health of your future starting QB.

Instead we have Kolb can play but isn't, we have been getting calls about his availability, and we dont know if he will be on the roster past the 19th 0_o.

PR disaster IMO.

have espn posting things like this in Kolbs bio

Player News (last updated: September 21, 2010)
News: An Eagles' source told NFL Network's Jason La Canfora there was "no setback" with Kolb's concussion and that he is cleared to play.
Spin: In other words, the Eagles are turning to Michael Vick in Week 3, and reportedly beyond, because he is (and has been) playing so well, meaning that Tuesday's decision to switch QB's was not based on Kolb's health.

while taking polls "Will Vick be the Eagles starting QB by the end of the season"

If the doctors would clear him, I would absolutely be on board with a trade to bring Kolb to Jacksonville.

But there is basically zero chance Philadelphia actually moves Kolb, short of an asking price like two 1sts or maybe a 1st and a 3rd.

Oh, so Tom Brady's hair is all Gisele's fault, but maybe there's some mad genius to it:

What better way to make your man stay faithful to you than by making him repulsive to all other women out there?

The deadline for Vincent Jackson to get traded and avoid sitting out extra games (from being placed on San Diego's roster-exempt list over the summer) has come and gone.

I fixed that up nicely for you...

If he plays another 2nd half like he did against the Jets I think the team should hold him down and shave his head. Maybe without all the hair blocking his eyes he will be able to see receivers on the field that aren't named Randy.

Dammit, Rat, now I can't unsee that!

That's ... awful!

In more dad-gum Mike Singletary news, Dennis O'Donnell, the guy who did the dad-gum interview last week was booted from the interviewing job.

"I'm not going to try to fire Dennis O'Donnell, I'm going to fire Dennis O'Donnell. Next question!"

Bucs FS Tanard Jackson was suspended by the league for at least a year for yet another violation of the substance abuse policy. Why?

BECAUSE HE'S A @$%@$@!!! MORON.

No, not PEDs, he's a druggie. He fell in the draft due to character concerns, which apparently were completely legitimate. So, now, instead of being one of the league's best young safeties, he gets to sit on his fanny for a while and could very well never play again. YOU MORON.

I CAN HAZ SABBY??

Spoiler:

I know it'll probably by Cody Grimm instead but one can hope, right?

Woo-hoo! My mom just got me NFL RedZone from Comcast! No more suffering!

I've got to say, this channel has been the best thing for football since HD. I'd still like Sunday Ticket Access, but whoever runs the RedZone channel is eerily in synch with exactly when I would change the channel. Enjoy!

She was telling me she got the idea to get it for herself after watching ESPNews' College Football Overdrive, which is basically the same deal on Saturdays. Drawback is that the TV by my PC doesn't have a cable box, so I guess I'm sitting on the couch with a laptop or iPad.

Momma's boy.

Yeah, well, your mom got me . . . never mind, I don't know you well enough to finish that joke. Just assuming it was brilliant and/or incredibly insulting.

Poor Jimmy Clausen. I saw him on TV and he was saying how great everyone is being in supporting him in his new starting QB role. Nothing but gracious, and yet, he still looks like a douchebag and there's nothing he can do about it short of a brand new face.

Call the FBI; I think GameGuru hacked *Legion*'s account.
