Call of Duty: Black Ops - Catch All

Wow, that has to be the least information I've ever seen on a (Flash) website ever. Are they going head-to-head with Medal Of Honor Modern Era?

Sounds like it.

If they ditch dual wielding, all the ridiculous commando+lightweight style builds, shotguns as secondary weapons, and tone down the killstreaks heavily (No AC-130, no Nuke, etc), I'll think about it.

If not, I'm out.

And bring back my attack puppies!

Right?

Anyone?

Preorders are already up on Amazon, that didn't take long.

What no dedicated servers! screw this console game! lol

I am solidly in the wait and see camp. I want to believe but my good will was spent on the last game.

Teaser is up.

Spoiler:

Pew! Pew! Splod! Splod!

ZOMG WORLD ASSCLUZIVE!

One big rescue mission?

MW2 is to me an inferior experience to MW1 and BFBC2 - I definitely won't pick this up unless I hear the single player isn't all "follow the leader" and the MP isn't an abomination of guys in gillie suits running around with shotguns in each hand.

I won't be buying this until after it's out and I know it's good or bad. Not big on buying Activision products right now.

I'd say making game buying decisions on it's strengths or weaknesses is a good idea, no matter what the brand is. If it's a good game that you'll have fun playing, then it's worth the money to you.

Check it out! I found a link to the awesome music in this trailer! It's by artist Cliff Lin and its called "And Your World Will Burn." You can download it at this link:

If they take that stuff out, I'm out!

And I'm not just being a contrarian, either. I dig the high powered killstreaks.

To be honest, I'm probably out anyway. I know Treyarch's games are fine, but I think I only need a CoD once every two years. MoH actually looks really interesting, so maybe that's how I'll get my shooter fix til Gears 3.

Well... you're welcome to keep right on playing with the ridiculous killstreaks.

For me the ridiculous killstreak spam combined with all the other gameplay changes basically broke the game.

The core gameplay, the controls, the fluidity, the speed, all of that makes for probably the finest shooter mechanics ever. Especially on a console.

It's just a shame they had to bury it in a bunch of badly balanced junk.

CoD4 was still the highlight for me, by far. Way better game than MW2.

I think rabbit said it on this week's podcast (talking about the SSX games), once they've mastered a genre what are they to do? especially in an industry and with a parent company that demands sequels.

Having seen MW2 SP played start to finish the game itself is a reasonably brainless shooting gallery, and from playing the free weekends multiplayer was too much fluff added onto the solid base. IMHO CoD4 was the highlight of the whole series that was pure fun, you couldn't take much away from it or add much to it without it being a poorer game.

It's a shame to see IW go the way it did, because in terms of tech and art MW2 was a pretty good game and had mastered that side of it. I hope that spark isn't extinguished by the events of the last few months and can be reignited at Respawn with whatever project they've got planned.

Rewarding the good players doesn't really strike me as crazy. The best players in plenty of genres/games get advantages over others.

I've also never bought that perks and higher level weapons mean squat in MW. I played a ton of both games and my success rates are the same at rank 1 as 50 or 60.

Nobody said otherwise.

Sidenote: they appear to be fudging a lot of details with this one, even in ways they haven't in the past.

For instance: there's an M4 in the trailer. Production on the M4 didn't start at Colt until 1994. The game's supposed to take place from Vietnam through the Cold War era.

Oops.

Is there another CoD: Black Ops thread I should know about?

Call of Duty: Black Ops - Wager Match Trailer

Looks super sweet!

I've determined they didn't think this name through thoroughly. People are going to just end up calling this "B.O.". Or maybe Cod BO (like a stinky fish).

I like what I've seen so far the multiplayer so far

'Wager mode' has the idea of everyone playing with the same set-ups which really appeals to me (and goes back to the roots of COD 2)

As the perk 'flak Jacket' which reduces explosive damage has been confirmed combined with no explosive buff perk means noob tubes and other explosives shouldn't be as big of a problem as before

Also I know this is the wrong thread and all but MW2 is having a double exp weekend this weekend so anyone who wants to make the last trek to lv.70 before Black Ops should get cracking

I wanted something different in MP and the new modes look like they'd be great fun with friends. If the campaign isn't tripe I'll have to seriously consider this game.

After the latest multiplayer trailer I saw someone post this.

Grenade of Airstrike 7: Black Grenade

It made me laugh.

like the +1 bullet mode!

I've not played MW2 much since it came out, maybe once a month (MP). But after seeing Black Ops I tried it last night and very disappointed that it's mostly turned into rocket launcher melee. Sad. I only played DM and maybe there is another type that excludes this, but if that what it all evolves into, instead of infantry warfare with weapons and grenades for tactical combat, then not my cup of tea. (I really enjoy Bad Company 2).

A lot of people have been playing so long that they're bored with conventional weapons and tactics and also, some people are trying to complete barracks challenges. For example, I've been playing lately with only RPGs + Scavenger + Explosive Perk and close to getting RPG VIII, which is 1200 kills. It's really fun to use this kit on Domination.

MW2 did get a little better by offering a non-kill streak mode, but the buffs (lw+marathon+tactical) still push it into silly areas. After BC2 I just have a hard time adjusting to the small maps and non-destructible environments.

I do have faith in Treyarch being able to put out a better game than IW. There support seemed much more extensive, thought to be fair IW imploded not too long afterward. Their multiplayer maps were much better than MW2 in my opinion. I also liked the 3 map pack DLC and more realistic (gory) battle damage.

I'm solidly in the wait and see camp, as long a Keifer Sutherland isn't screaming at me throughout the matches.

The problem with MW2 was that infinty ward gave too much freedom to players through perks and attachments without trying to achieve balance

This has resulted in perks like commando, danger close, One man army and attachments like heatbeat sensors and grenade launchers being exploited by poor players to the maximum, ruining the game for everyone else

WaW and Cod 4 had this aspect to them (MP40 abuse and 3x frags and martyrdom) but MW2 offers bullsh*t class set ups on a level never seen before

If Black Ops achieves nothing else, Wager mode - and most of all 'gun game' - offers a game mode that can't be exploited and where only genuinely good players will win, and to be honest thats all I'm looking for

Dont agree wtih this at all. There's a counter for each combo thats out there. If you're not able to take someone down using a certain set then you can switch yours out to combat it. Hardly ruins the game.

And I also respectfully disagree

The only counter to a danger close grenade launcher is the blast shield - which is in itself a poor counter as:

a) It only reduces the damage to that of regular grenade
b) It f*cks up your hud
c) You have to give up a slot for your hand grenades to use it
d) You have to equip it at the right time

Also while ninja pro takes care of heartbeat sensors there is no counter to commando - on levels that are open it is not that bad but on maps with a lot of blind corners like favela it is a nightmare to try and deal with, especially since it is often accompanied with marathon, lightweight and a tactical knife etc...

I've played a lot of MW2 and I wish your statement about everything having a counter was true but in my opinion it simply isn't

then maybe its a matter of aim. I also have a lot of time in and i dont have the problems you mentioned and know i'm not the only one.
