A common interest between my wife and I has been Blizzard products so this year we are making the trek down to Blizzcon for our first serious convention. This will be our first conventioneering (hope I got that right) expedition and we are little unsure what to expect. My wife decided to make things a little harder on herself by undertaking making a costume and entering the costume contest. She doesn't do things half assed. Anyway, this falls into the category of cosplay and the various trips to hardware and craft stores for costume supplies has made evident that this particular hobby (cosplaying?) is rather common. Very often we would run into a helpful employee, that after a bit of talking around the subject, would be revealed as a cosplayer. I bring this up out of curiousity if there is anyone here that has taken Halloween or some sort of costumed occasion a little too serious?
Here's what she is trying to accomplish:
heres some of what she's got so far:
I hesitate to post more until I get her permission hopefully that will be forth coming.
Snazzy.

Never done it before, but I want to go to the California Republican Party meeting dressed as Meg Whitman.
Never, but I think one of The Venture Bros. best lines is "I am in the costume business, not costume play."
I'd like to note that, at least for me, while "cosplay" is supposed to stand for "costume play" the two phrases have very different meanings in my mind.
So yeah, the Costume Play Tell All thread isn't really about what I thought it was going to be about...

Indeed, i was worried about clicking on this thread but memories of certain other threads here compelled me to click anyway
Those Pauldrons look kick-ass though!
I love cosplays. If I could sew worth a damn, I'd be making costumes all the time. Those pauldrons look awesome and I'd love to see this costume when it's complete.
Looks awesome! After looking at those pauldrons it's obvious that you're not kidding that you guys aren't going half assed! Definitely post more shots if you get permission. I've never cosplayed myself, but love seeing the results of other people who put serious time and effort into their costumes.
I'm waiting to see if the finished costume will be on fire. Please post pictures if so. Heck, post pictures either way.
I took my daughter to a local convention last year, which coincided with the local zombie walk. For this occasion I made myself a headcrab zombie costume that I felt was pretty freakin' sweet. Pics if I can find some.
Wow, for "never having done this before" that looks pretty sweet. I hope you post pics of the final product.
Damn. I'm impressed.
I notice the pauldrons are missing from that photo. Were they a no-go, just not finished, or were they part of a separate costume altogether and I'm just a filthy, filthy skimmer?
Now I haven't made any costumes myself. Mostly because I don't seem to have the skills and time needed make a costume. But I try to piece costumes together from regular clothing. My main focus with costumes is simple, easy and cheap. I have three costumes for two anime conventions I have near my area. (Sugoicon, Ohayocon) I have had many of pictures taken in these costume but I don't have any myself. So I give you my costumes in list form #1 Laughing man from Ghost in the Shell, #2 Hunter from Left 4 Dead, #3 Malcolm Reynolds from Firefly. Also I've been playing with the idea of make the Doppler effect shirt from Big Bang Theory for halloween.
Any more progress pics? I'm totally enthralled and jealous of your wife's mad skills.
Wow, this all looks so familiar. My friends and I cosplay pretty regularly. Actually, we have a cosplayer gathering this weekend to hang at a park in Seattle.
It all looks awesome so far, especially for someone that hasn't had any previous experience doing so. I'm excited to see the upcoming pictures.
very very nice
Wow, that looks sharp. Really well done!
Needs more cleavage....
Needs more cleavage....
:D
Must... resist... breastplate... joke.
That's turning out very nice indeed.
Due to the love already shown me by the TSA last time, my cosplay for PAXEast is going to be a black notebook and an apple with a bite out of it. If people get the reference, they get to put an entry in the book.

its rather 'modest' like the source material. if you want the skanky version look here (I dont add a picture because this particular girl isnt doing the costume justice. She has modified it to be more... revealing... to compliment her new figure.)
DAMN YOU WORK FIREWALL!!!!
Bravo!
Very nice work.
Holy sh*t. Amazing!
