Soccer Gaming Catch-All

Oh cool. I played this a few hours back in 2016, but fairly quickly burned out due to the grindy nature of the game. I'm going to give it another go now, I think.

Yeah, it is super fun and addictive. Scratches just about every gaming itch I have.

I'm tempted to fire up a new game as well.

I think I played around the same time, 2016 or so. I was having a great time with the game and played it quite a bit. I thought I was going to love it forever, then I fell off a cliff and was completely done with it. At a certain point it just got too grindy as you got to the upper leagues.

Still, I'd highly recommend it. I got a lot of enjoyment out of it before I hit that wall.

Pro Evo 2019 will be the free game of the month at PlayStation Plus for July.

Can't beat free to play a few games while ignoring everything around the match engine.

Edit: apparently PES on Ps+ is only for North America, or at least it's not for the PAL region. We get Detroit Almost Human instead. Bummer...

naw there was a thing where they announced it but then changed it at the last minute and no one (regardless of region) ended up with PES.

Was reading Eurogamer, and they think it may have something to do with the PES deal with Liverpool expiring as to why it was pulled. It seems like a good theory, so probably some legality issues with that.

Thanks for the clarifications. PES was still on the Instant Game Collection Wikipedia entry for North-America region, hence the confusion.

Licensing-related... Because of course it is.

edit: LINK to Eurogamer article.

Juventus to be called Piemonte Calcio in Fifa after PES deal

LOL.

I wonder how much money it took for Konami to do this. And they had to have only done it to screw EA, because if you have enough to do this, you've gotta have enough for a full Serie A license.

I’d imagine it took a boat load of money for it to happen considering some of the names at Juventus.

It’s weird for them though, there were reports their new half and half shirt was designed because they felt they had interest in America, but not enough went as far to buy the shirt because (their research suggested) people associate black and white stripes with referees in America too much (I’ll take that as to why Newcastle has such a small fan base there as well )

I’d presume more people play Fifa than pro evo in America, so I’d think that doubling down on that with EA would help? Who knows, I believe pro evo has been traditionally more popular in Italy though.

PES was more popular in Europe a few years ago when FIFA was very arcade-y.
Now, I think FIFA has the crown again.

That's cool. Neither are as good as Football, Tactics & Glory. ;P

I really want to say that's monumentally idiotic, but I can't say that there's zero chance that people here are that dumb.

Well, if we're talking about tactics, this has none of them!

Blimey, tackling like that and it'd be two-a-side in no time.

Very reminiscent of Kick Off 2..though not as good, obviously !

Oh, man. That brings back memories.

Dave, do you want to recreate the fantasy league again this year or would you prefer someone else take the reins?

I'll leave real life football to the experts, I think.

World Cup Italia 90! Great memories with that one.

How about Nintendo World Cup, for the NES. My friends and I would be in fits of laughter at some of the antics. Such a fun game.

DELIGHTFUL

Great, thanks for running it all these years Dave.

I created new league if any Soccer Gaming goodjers want to join:

https://fantasy.premierleague.com/
Code to join this league: 2xgyed

That is wonderful.

I'm so glad ePES got the Juventus license.

At least Suarez is accurate.

To be fair, the Ronaldo one does look a lot like his statue.

This one

They actually don't, but I can't decide which one is worse.

THE TEETH

WHY ARE THE TEETH SO f*ckING AGGRESSIVE

Konami really liked that Sonic trailer.

The e stands for enamel, presumably...

Did anyone else try the PES 2020 (sorry, I meant eFootball Pro Evolution Soccer 2020 of course) demo?

I played two vs CPU games and one online.

It's actually... pretty good. The physics of players using their bodies to battle for possession feels great, how running at full speed or the player's body being turned the wrong way affects your ability to control feels better than ever. I think the difficulty was set at whatever's the second easiest though. So whether the AI feels right on the higher levels (I always found them oscillating between cheaty-good or stupid-bad) remains to be seen.

It's hard to judge the menu's based on a demo as of course almost nothing is available, but they seem to aim for a much condensed and more modern feel. What hasn't changed is the endless clicking and waiting until you actually get to the main menu itself.

Oh and those teeth... The animation and player models look amazing actually, until they open their mouths. So that just means it's very easy to patch! Just add some code to keep their pieholes shut forever, voilà fixed!

tl;dr version: cautiously optimistic.

Oooh, I'll see if it's up on PS Online tonight. I'm having a hard time sleeping, why not throw in some terrifying teeth as well?
