Soccer Gaming Catch-All

That -- could be cool. Like you say, if it isn't just some new skins, which it probably is. My question as "the stupid American": are there robust women's leagues around the world? I know we have a league, but you wouldn't really notice. (kind of like the men amirite? *rimshot*)

They do specific motion cap, it's in the trailer for the feature.

Hopefully we can get some more online features in this one. I want more than 2v2 co-op online play.

Anyone else seen the guy who simulated Football Manager 2015 to 1000 years in the future (England only, as I'm guessing other leagues would become a ridiculously big game file)? I saw this previously with a 100 year sim, in which Paul Jewel won a world cup with England and Stephen Pienaar became the greatest manager of all time.

Anyway, if FM really is an accurate simulation, Sheffield United fans can look forward to the next 1000 years

FM2015 1000 year simulation

Amazing stuff. An FM YouTuber, DoctorBenjy FM, did an overview video:

I actually downloaded the file (1.2 gbish) to poke around. I exited when I found Everton in the Vanarama South.

Martinez probably still talking about the core values and playing the right way in his post match interviews.

And probably still at Goodison.

Football Manager 3015.

Brendan Rogers still talking about "doing things the right way". Truro City reserves players not impressed.

Jose claims that "we still outplayed them" despite the inhabitants of Ceti Alpha 5 reducing London to a radioactive crater following a contentious Galaxy UEFA Cup tie. Subsequently disintegrated for failing to shake the tentacle of the Mekon after the game.

Sepp Blatter's head still in control of FIFA. WC 2622 held on the Sun, on the basis that "it's not much hotter than Qatar in July". Also the number of credit chips that can be stuffed in prehistoric receptacles known as 'envelopes'.

John Terry still a twat. Beats Kodos the Executioner in a Newsweek 3000 poll of "Galaxies Biggest Twats".

EA announced a new mode in FUT for FIFA 16 at Gamescom this morning called FUT Draft. It looks pretty cool in and of itself, but the teaser video with Gary Neville & Jamie Carragher is just above and beyond:

I'll say that just to make Pred laugh:last year's PES is really good.

I'll take that as proof that immortality will be achieved during our lifetimes.
It'll be great to watch that unfold.

I bought it on sale a while back, and it really was. If you manage to ignore the atrocious refereeing, that is. Almost ruined the game for me.

So you mean just like real life then.

Still at Goodison, which now has a capacity ~8000.

Yeah, true. But I'm in my third season of the ML mode and I'm still enjoying every game immensely. I think that's because this PES controls a lot like PES 5/6 whatwhich are officially the best football games in history.

The FIFA 16 demo is out now, as well as Football Manager 2016 being announced!

Same old FIFA really, does seem that they've sorted out the problem with pace the last game had. However, the Ultimate Team draft is great, I spent loads of time just doing the draft over to see what teams I could fit together. I hope it does offer a lot of different prizes in the game to keep it interesting, as I can sort of seeing it being forgotten about for people's actual teams.

Also, Football Manager 16 has a draft mode, which should make playing with friends a bit less painful. I'm not sure how similar it will be to Football Manager Live back in the day, which I never played (but people swear that it was great), but hopefully it'll be a good addition. They've announced three different games, with two of them having a more casual focus, so I'm guessing they're really worried that the majority of their fan base who made them popular all work 9-5 jobs now

Oh, and it also has a sort of character creator tool for your manager. Not too sure the logic behind that one...

My 3rd season of FM15 - not played this long for ages.

Taken Chelsea, who've got enough players on loan to furnish about 4 spare teams. Summer is a nightmare.

Still can't find a decent left back, despite 3 attempts (Tyrone Mings, Nacho from RM as a P/Ex, some guy from Ajax). Finally solidified my 4-2-3-1 with Ramires and Wanyama.

Finest moments to date - Winning the League Cup over Spurs, refusing to give John Terry a new contract and letting him go :). Seeing KDB described as 'buy at any price' then my Director of Football negotiating a £30m deal for him on deadline day.

Worst moments - Losing FA cup final to Liverpool on pens despite being 3-1 up with 8 minutes to go. CURSE YOU, MARIO !! (shakes fist at sky). Having Ramires, Hazard, Costa and Willan all out for the last 6 games of the season, leading to a second place.

Oddest moments - England winning Euro 2016 (1-0 over Germany) with pretty much the team they have now. England playing Andorra in a WCQ and winning 21-0.

If I went with one soccer game should it be pro evolution or fifa? I know the new pro evolution just came out and it sounds really good. Fifa isn't quite out yet, but I think preview coverage for it was also good.

Football Manager.

If I had a console and was looking for a control-the-players soccer game I'd go for FIFA over PES based on what goodjers have said the last few years. Plus you can sub Christine Sinclair off the bench and clink Coke bottles.

Sorry, I should have been clear. I am asking about call of duty soccer and not Europa universalis soccer.

Ars Technica thinks pretty highly of the new Pro Evo and apparently it was more popular at Gamescom:

Apparently, the Japanese game developer’s pronouncement really has some teeth on it and it became evident when the gameplay demo of “PES 2016” was shown during the Gamescom 2015 held on August 5 to 9 at Cologne, Germany.

The gameplay demo was so outstanding that it has actually overwhelmed its direct competition “FIFA 16” from EA Sports whose trailer was also featured in the event, which many considered was quite underwhelming.

After the Gamescom 2015, Konami has already made available the “PES 2016” gameplay demo for PlayStation 4, the Xbox One, the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360. While many gamers and critics were skeptical about Konami’s initial pronouncements about “PES 2016” but when the game demo was showcased at Gamescom 2015, it made believers out of cynics, skeptics, and even doubters, details Moviepilot.

The outlet even cited that “PES 2016” destroyed “FIFA 16” up front because its gameplay style really made players see that the former was the better and more enjoyable game.

I don't have a particular dog in the fight other than a ton of affection for PES from the PS2 days...kinda been out of touch with soccer games all through the ps3 era (though I did pick up one from each series during that time, both a bit underwhelming).

edit: I have downloaded the demo for the new PES, but haven't had a crack at it yet.

It depends, I think FIFA is a bit of an easier gateway as it has all the licenses, whereas Pro Evo only has a few licenses. I played the Pro Evo demo this year and but I've been on FIFA since FIFA 09, when the game started to really improve (it was very mediocre for years before this!)

The demos for both are actually out, so you should try them both to see which you prefer! I do long for the day when Pro Evo takes over, but there's so many sexist/racist per-pubescent teens popular on YouTube now that play FIFA that I feel it'll never get back to being the top dog

There's also this article that's just come up Eurogamer, if you want to have a read.

Plus, the Ultimate Team mode in FIFA is great fun!

Won't you please consider our good friend Football Manager though? I swear you won't get addicted, just one hit

Fixed.

Would love to hear how you like PES / FIFA though.

You people and your football manager. I actually do own the 2014 version. I haven't fired it up at all, though... yet. Trying the demos is a good idea. Not sure why I didn't think of that... Thanks for the feedback, all!

FIFA is prettier and more rounded, but PES gives you a bit more freedom. It might take more time to get used to, but I think it's always been a game where, brace yourself for this wonderful cliche, you can express yourself more.

And, yes, PES 2016 has some very positive reviews. I've played 3 seasons of PES 2015 and it's pretty good too.

I might try get PES in the Steam sale, it did seem quite good, although I don't think I can play both at the same time, it'd just get too confusing due to the fact they play very differently.

Ultimate Team on FIFA has started, my first draft team turned out very nicely, with an in form Ronaldo on the left wing and Lionel Messi on the right! Missed my chance for Benzema though, so I've had to make do with Costa up top. I love the draft system, it's a great addition I think, it really makes you sacrifice things and think hard about the team you're selecting.

FYI: Players are reporting that the PC version of PES 2016 is a port of the 360/PS3 version. Gimped graphics, partially update rosters, ect..

Really? I thought Konami cared about their AAA games

My son pretty much plays FIFA exclusively, and so we had FIFA 16 delivered yesterday. He played a couple of hours last night, and gives it a preliminary thumbs up. I watched him play for a bit, and they definitely seem to have fixed the overpowered pace issue. He couldn't score at all using the same offensive tactics he used with FIFA 15. In general defenders look a lot less clueless than they did in FIFA 15. Specifically, they seem better at anticipating through balls and balls over the top.

Finally, after about an hour and a half, he started scoring. Basically, he said he started to move the ball around when he got about 2/3 of the way to the opposing team's goal, then looked for opportunities or defensive mistakes. Oddly enough, this sounds like ... real soccer. *gasp*

I read a review that said crosses were still underpowered, but for what it's worth he didn't think so, at least based on what he encountered last night. He scored a few goals on crosses, and felt they are better than they were in FIFA 15.

I've found one of the most underrated parts of FIFA is how it allows for different play styles. Too many people think it's all about pace and it isn't. I always play with a big team and trying to bully my way to victories, with long balls and 5 defenders, and it never lets me down. I've also played people who are really good at possession football and it's always a nice surprise, the thing I find is that a lot of people, because they are all drawn to pace, can't handle different styles as well.

Also, check out Metacritic now - PES is above FIFA in the averages! Nice to see it up there, it may be a future purchase for me to return to my former love.

The wild card, as well, is players. My son's players are all pretty much junk right now. It's hard to play with pace with a really slow team.

That's interesting about PES. I haven't played that game for ages.
