Duke Nukem Forever Catch-All

My only real problem with DNF is that it sucks.

DNF will have a piece of DLC released on Tuesday entitled "The Doctor Who Cloned Me."

I never bought DNF. I did play the demo, but I never bothered with the game. Why? Because of what MechaSlinky said. Anyway, I'm posting about the DLC because I'm interested to see if Gearbox can do something better with the IP. Does Duke have a future?

I've seen comments speculating that this DLC is just content cut from the initial release, and then polished up for later, seemingly it should have been within the main campaign.

As for a future, I think Duke could have a future, but I don't think it will. I think DNF only got a release so 2K could recoup as much money as possible from it, and if there is another game it won't be a big studio like Gearbox working on it, or at least not as a major project.

Damn.

This was Best Buy's special deal of the day, for, like, 5 bucks, which got me wondering about this DLC. Wouldn't it be great if someone released an ungodly turd of a game, such as DNF for example, and then through patches and DLC gradually reshaped, until a year or two later it's been made into a stealth masterpiece right under everyone's noses? Someone needs to come up with a business model that makes it work, because it'd be hilarious.

Didn't Gearbox purchase the IP? Anyways, there was that article a couple weeks ago about what they should do with the franchise to make up for DNF, and if they take even half that advice to heart I think they can turn things around. We need more goofy and fun FPS games these days. It doesn't sound like Bulletstorm is going to get a sequel and Serious Sam only comes around once a decade it seems, so it'd be nice to have more options other than Borderlands for the future.

There might be a game called Duke Nukem 5, but who knows if it's any good. Lets just say I'm not optimistic. Given the type of contents that duke requires, I see a better chance of such a project working as a mid-budget title than trying to be a AAA blockbuster.

The best thing about this horrible idea is that the DLC costs more than what the retail game is going for these days.

That's a common thing with a lot of games though, companies 'rake it in' by selling the extra content and online passes no matter what the base game costs.
