League Of Legends Catch All

Fun night of doing stupid things and still getting wins. I played 3 and we did something dumb and unexpected in each.

2 APs bot with an AD top, 5 man push to get a 4 minute turret, etc.

Unfortunately, the coveted Cass/Nami no feet lane was unexpectedly counter-trolled by a blitz/thresh lane. We'll need to try that one again.

huh, yeah i can see two tanky beating up two squishies. I am guessing these fun games were blind picks?

BTW, today is that glorious day known as Friday! So we should expect plenty of people online to play games, do we want to run a custom tonight of just GWJers or has such games lost favor with the LoL GWJ Population?

I'm up for whatever. Some ultimate bravery games? Or any game I can play nami in pretty much.

The Boots on Head Cass/Nami lane came out about even in lane, I think I was 0-2-4 at the end of the laning phase, but down like 4 levels on everyone. I ended the game 0-3-22 but late game we only got one real good nami -> cass ult but it was so so mean. The rest were still mean, but that was a pretty much 5-0. That and they kept pulling nasus and trying to murder him, but he would pop his ult and live long enough for us to pretty much kill everyone else or make them run away. Or they would pull singed, cause that's a great idea. But for some reason they pretty much every fight would either ignore Cass or Cait.

After I got double pulled I learned my lesson and stayed way back, possibly too much so to really get in their face and ult as Cass. Still, it allowed me to put out some sustained deeps fo sho.

They ignored me every fight.

Well, that's not true, they attempted to initiate on me every fight, failed, pulled Nasus or Singed instead and then we destroyed them.

I was first blood and but that was my only death =) Cait is so good.

You're coming to the wrong party, friend, if you think we truck with that 'rocket city' crap at pencon.

QFT

though im too poor to go to minpencon due to pax...hoping for bigpencon though.

Just need to figure out how to kidnap raven. Complex has an evil laugh that will help, but I think we need a better plan than just an evil laugh.

I also have an SUV if that helps?
At the moment I am hoping pencon 2013 dates change from October 10-12 as that is during my company's blackout dates for PTO. :(

I'd prefer a van, but I think we have a start. Time to start the elaborate plan of getting his address but offering him Lulu cupcakes from Pax. I mean...

Ah ha! It's all so clear now! I'm too easily bribed with cupcakes...

I'm so discouraged I think I may never play video games again.

Play ARAMs with frate.

Wait. They made that set of Warhammer 40K skins and they couldnt make Taric a Terminator skin. What the hell.

I'm just starting to get back into LoL and I was wondering if you guys have a typical game night, or if I should just jump on Vent and see who's on. I'd love to play with people who are communicating and playing as a team so that I can actually learn the game instead of just jumping into games with pubbies.

@PWAlessi I don't think many of us use Vent very often at this point, as skype has become a matter of habit. Your best bet at getting in touch would be to check the GWJ chat room in the client. Nobody really chats in it, but the user list is still useful for sending friend requests and asking if any games are getting started. What's your summoner name & level?

Ok, thanks.

My summoner name is Geegor and I'm level 7. Do you think that I should just grind out public games until I'm level 30?

@PWAlessi Absolutely not! You are right on target that it's a much faster and less abrasive way to learn the game by playing with other experienced players on voice chat. In my experience, summoner levels 1-29 have a higher concentration of people being assholes, because if someone gets banned from their lv30 for bad behavior they can just create a new one and poison the lower ranks. By playing with us you'll be completely over your head for a few weeks but it's far better than suffering through the most toxic area of the player base.

Keep in mind that regardless of the actual stakes at hand, games can always become heated and it's really easy to become frustrated and vent that towards obvious weak links in the team. Rest assured goodjers aren't going to be insulting, but advice may come in the form of harsh criticism. Just be ready to take it in stride and keep trying to improve. Trust me, it's fun!

Okay, I'll join the GWJ chat and keep on the lookout for you guys when I'm on. I don't mind the criticism if it helps me get better. Chat is annoying when people just write: you suck n00b and garbage like that.

Right now, I'm still trying to learn the basic strategies. I know not to feed the other team and to hang back behind the minions and not get too aggressive. I also try to pick a lane and stick with it. Other than that, I'm finding it hard to establish a strategy in public games without actually talking to people.

Scumbag Fedora actually stole my Caitlin penta with a Sona auto attack.

Scumbag.

I was spectating that match and watched it happen. Almost fell out of my chair. Too funny. Poor Dyni.

Been playing some Vi, and she is pretty fun.

Vi is one of my favorite characters in the entire game, but she is a normal ban now. Her kit is just so amazing, I am worried about a rengar type nerf coming to her at somepoint where she is a shell of her former self but can get there is super fed. (See Rengar rolling with an SotD and Bloodthirster) But her Q has so many uses, her w kills objections and tankier people, her E is great wave clear/underestimated poke and her Ult is well, her ult.

I think I finally figured out why I enjoy playing nami so much, her Q is 875 range with about a 75ish width? Nauts Q is 950 Range. Nami's bubble is just an anchor that can fly through the air over minions. That and nautical themed champs OP.

Free week champs are interesting...Blitz, Nami, Leona (supports) Ryze, Kat, Malz Yi (mids) Ez, Cait (ADC) Udyr (Jungle/Top)

There is usually a better mix. I mean Yi can top/jungle as well I suppose.

Though I want to see Squee blitz this week just to destroy all other blitz's.

IntangibleFate wrote:

That oh-so-sexy Blitz on Blitz action!

malz is my most played champ. it's always entertaining during free Malz weeks because i always see people playing him in odd ways like going through the entire laning phase relying entirely on his silence and autoattacks for farming and harass without casting a single E. That's like Hook City without the hook... just a boring ol' City.

So over on EUW server we managed to get in a full Hook City comp:

Top: Darius
Mid: Blitzcrank
ADC: Thresh
Supp: Nautilus
Jungle: Amumu

Amumu and Darius are stretching the hook definition a little, but the game was a blast.
We were up against Wukong, Akali, Jarvan, Graves, and Thresh. When the team fights broke out it was pretty crazy with hooks flying all over the place and multiple Thresh boxes out. It turns out that our comp had some pretty heavy AoE damage as an afterthought and that was enough to carry us to victory.

I wonder, sometimes why I fire up this game. I think the last 3-4 nights I just wanted to take a break, and do a quick matchmade game. But the rest of the team was quite keen to completely c*ck up selection. No tanks, in 2 games. No carry in another. General chat fights over who gets which lane. Blegh.

I'm finding you gotta be able to enjoy the game even if yer losing:) If not, you won't have fun...i still think the point is having fun, even tho i'm fairly competative by nature.

I've been mixing in other games tho and not playing league every night cause i don't wanna get frustrated or burn out on this game since i really do love it. And i've been having fun even in losses lately.

Well, losing also means a lot of verbal abuse. I think there might be a reason I fired up Tropico and Darksiders more the past few weeks.

You guys aren't playing in enough full five man queues. League can be a fantastic co-op experience when done right. All my best gaming moments have come from LoL because it was the result of teamwork, and I got to share that great play with my friends in the moment, and then again 3 minutes later when the spectators start whispering.

Needs to be quoted twice for level of awesome.

I play league but I hop between alot of the different groups that play and I think that helps me not get sick of the game. There are nights where its 4 games with complex and raven, then other nights where I am just playing with friends, then sometimes it's Squee and the acolytes. Then maybe Dyni/Carrot/Cath and then the mix between all of those groups. I find it helps when regular queue is going bad to either do something completely dumb in blind pick (cass/nami bot) (Ryze/Zyra bot) (5 man bot gank and first tower) or Arams. I can't wait for the ARAM queue. Ultimate Bravery 3 on 3's in twisted treeline, or Ultimate Bravery bot games with newer players.

I have to say, those ult brave games we did in twisted treeline were possibly the best LoL games I have ever played. Hurricane taric go!

Quick question: do you learn and master a few heros or do you play lots of different heros? Also, is there a good source to learn about which heros pair well with others? As a newb, I'm just trying to focus on learning a couple (Ashe, Warwick, Master Yi at this point).

Any advice?

It's a free to play game and there's lots and lots of opportunities to spend money. My advice is to buy a cheap character pack (so you'll always have access to those characters) and learn the different roles so you can identify what you want to play. Once you have an idea, that's when you can start really focusing on characters. Until then, save you $ and IP for when you hit 30 =)
