League Of Legends Catch All

They weren't giving presentations. I only asked about gameplay not their pricing plans but this article talks about it.

Essentially, Micro transactions will allow you to purchase early access to new equipment, heroes, powers, or whatever other future content will be offered -- but even non-paying customers will eventually get access to those items, and none of them will allow the payers to smackdown the non-payers.

That's interesting. I wonder if it will work. I think what will happen is that easily 80% will wait and the other 20% hardcore will buy. It depends on price also.

From what I've read the free to play option will give you access to a limited number of heroes and other content from the start, paying for a copy gives you access to more of the content from the start and also a few bonuses like 2 custom skins and $10 in riot points.

There are two types of currency in the game, riot points which you buy for money, and influence points which you get from playing. Anything which can give you an advantage in the game is supposed to be purchasable with either currency. Things like IP/XP boosts and custom skins for heroes will only be purchasable by spending real money. I'm also assuming that to unlock every single hero, get decent runes and anything else they sell without spending real money will take you a long long time.

It sounds as though the model is also based around the fact that 90% of players will never buy anything but that the other 10% will spend enough to make them the money to keep going. Hopefully it works and if I continue to enjoy the game enough I'm sure I'd spend $10 every now and then just to support them if nothing else.

Maybe we'll get enough people now for a full 5 on 5 match of only GWJers. I'm going to assume that everyone's in game name is the same unless stated otherwise.

Current list AFAIK,

-Crockpot
-Edxactly
-Georob
-Grubber788 (not found)
-Hobes2009
-Kazar
-Latrine
-PandaEskimo
-Petriefied
-LiquidMantis
-Nossid
-Sinatar
-Thowky

Unbalancing the game for money sounds like disaster. No matter how slight the unbalance or how short it will last. I would gladly pay a $40 (non-premium) price-tag for this game (which is what I payed for Demigod, coincidentally).

Visual markers (hats, outfits and even taunt animation) would be a smart idea, especially if it doesn't change the gameplay or stats (other than finding your Champion faster).

Premium maps (and maybe premium items that only apply to those maps) could also be a way making some money without splitting the community.

OOOOR, how the "American Base-ball" for L4D2 will work, if someone has a premium item, all players can use it.

The sign up page is working now.

To be fair though there is already this inbalance for new players as you don't get to add runes, masteries or spells until you start playing games. The paid content just seems to give you a quicker way of getting these and new champions which I don't really have a problem with.

Limiting access to champions also doesn't seem that bad provided they keep them reasonably balanced. Slowly gaining access to them is fine by me but giving people the ability to pay to unlock them all straight away doesn't seem to unbalance the game to me. If anything it's probably going to make me play each of the characters more as if I've spent a while playing to unlock a new champion I'm going to want to use them, wheras if I'd had them from the start I might not bother.

The only inbalance I can see from the way the system seems to be setup is with Runes. My fear is that they are going to only give people level 1 runes from playing the game and let people buy level 3 runes. You can level up your runes by combining 5 of each level to get 1 of the next level but given that you can eventually equip a total of 30 runes and it's random what you'll get by combining them you could potentially be looking at needing 150 level 1 runes. This is just speculation at the moment though and the Rune system is still listed as work in progress so this might not even be an issue.

I'm not found yet, because I haven't had time to sign up. I'll do that tonight (your time).

Signed up and installing.
Whether this pricing model works out for them or not - it will lead to them learning how to do it better.
The idea behind this stuff is impulse buying. Spending $1.00 for something is no big deal - do it 20 times over 2 months on a game which has a big base to start with (as it is free to get) it could add up nicely for them.
I hope it does.

Maybe get Crockpot to keep the list in the main post?

Will do.

The lack of zooming out in this game is bothering me

Ok, I joined the beta. I feel so dirty. Demi-God forgive me!

Okay, okay, I dont care that much. I'm much more preoccupied by the girl that was exchanging looks with me at the videostore.

Wow, I just played my first match against humans and was completely destroyed. 1 kill, 14 deaths, 1 assist.

At least my team was friendly, the more experienced folks were giving me advice instead of branding me with unpleasant monikers. Hopefully most of the community is like this. Guess I need to spend more time with bots learning a few characters.

If you want to add me to this master list, search either Grubber or Grubber788. One's a "summoner"(?) name and the other is the account name.

Well, if it's anything like Dota, you'll be seeing this soon enough:

-AR -US/CA PROZ ONLY!!!

You can add me to the list as SpaceDog

Wow so after playing tons of Demigod over the past couple of months I went into LoL last night for the first time and was blown away by the number of choices I had. Demigod I had to pick from 8 characters, in this one I had multiple screens of players. Demigod the item shop had a couple things to pick from, this one had levels and levels of stuff to buy and pieces of items to get and combine and build...

I am overwhelmed. Starting with just the character selection screen how am I ever supposed to pick one if I have 45 choices?

You can filter the choices based on the role you want to play. I think the point of having so many choices is so you have a variety of experiences rather than being able to make an informed decision.

In the item shop you'll see on the top left that you can directly buy a set of items recommend for your chosen hero. They're pretty good choices if you want to just get in there and play, although you may want to tune it a bit. For example if you're still new to the game you'll probably want to get a health regen item at the beginning even if it doesn't go with your character's build.

Damm I didn't realise the FilePlanet keys were only for a couple of days. I even paid a fileplanet sub just to get in to the BETA. If anyone playing closed BETA has a spare invite I would love to get one.

Someone had like 20 invites. I'm seriously considering pre-ordering just to support these guys. I'll PM you if I go over the fence and buy it.

This might sound rather stoopit but I've kept myself out of that scene on purpose: has anyone had a good experience with Free+Premium games before? I'm sure there's bound to be some very successful stories, but my concern is how aware are you that you're missing out on the "good stuff" and how obvious is the "nickel and dime you to death"?

Got my email invite to the beta last week, but this is the first chance I've had to get going with it.

I'll be in game as Isoalpha.

EDIT: I've got a key now

Thanks for the key I'll leave the name out just incase they want to remain anon.

I've played about 6 games so far.
Got the general hang of it.
Although there is a lot of optiins - the game paly does seem "flat" in comparison to demigod.
My only real complaint about the game is complete lack of zoom out. I see so little of what is going on it is annoying.
You'll be in a heated battle and not even see the people shooting at you as they are slightly off screen.

just a quick note, my nick is spelled with two Bs; HoBBes2099.

(please add me, I want friends).

Zoom out works for me. It's default to mouse wheel.

The zoom out in Demigod and Supreme Commander has ruined all other game's zoom outs forever.

Heads up interested people, all LoL beta testers have been granted one friend invite. Start spamming requests if interested.

Also, it seems Clan support is almost ready, so we might as well start trying out the game among our own.

I'll take a key if anyone is giving any out.

You really can't call that a zoom out, it's more like a step back

My LoL nick is Timewaster, also with 1 invite (I'll need an email address to send it to)
