League Of Legends Catch All

Pages

After playing Demigod I notice that a lot of Goodjers don't know about this game. To my surprise there was no catch all!

League Of Legends is a DOTA, and Demigod type game that will be free to play (which was announced today). This game will be closer to DOTA than Demigod and seems to appeal to the DOTA crowd. The game seems to aiming for low system specs and will be perfect for our ventrilio community.

The game will have a summoner system which is a skill based persistence system (sort of like favor points in Demigod). Details of that here.

You can find details of the game here.

Nice video here.

hmm, I really enjoyed Demigod and never liked DOTA much. Does that mean this is one to pass up, or is there more depth?

I believe there will be more depth with the summoner system.

It seems they have switched the system over to a free + microtransactions model.

The only thing that paying players will have over non paying is extra champion skins. Hero hood ornaments in other words. But they also mention "minor convenience features".

I'm very interested in this, no luck with getting into the beta so far though. Only got in the Heroes of Newerth one, which is literally a DotA clone and doesn't really bring anything new to the table. I hope LoL will, and free2play sounds fine, as long as they don't put game changing stuff in their store, but from what I've read they're not planning to do that.

Final game isn't to off I guess. It's suppose to be out by September and I'm sure that will do the same thing Battlefield Heroes did which just slowly turn beta into the full game.

New gameplay videos from Gametrailers [1][2].

It does resemble more DOTA than Demigod (it is being developed by the same team that came up with DOTA) which I take as a good thing. The art is more cartoonish and seems to take itself less seriously.

Anyone heard of possible release dates?

yup, September

Looks good but I think most GWJers wont get into this. I think most of us are already use to Demigod. Slow, zoomage, and micro managing generals. I'll give it a try and the best part, its freeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

Well the fact that it's going to be free to play means there'll be a lower barrier to entry than usual. I don't know if everyone is going to stick around but I'm betting most of the Demigod regulars will at least try it.

I am interested to see how this game plays out. Demigod never interested me because of the lack of hero choices so hopefully LOL (lol) will satiate my post-DOTA hunger.

So... DOTA + TF2? I'm in.

I've played both DOTA and Demigod, and found that I didn't enjoying Demigod's style of play, or even visual style. I'm hoping League of Legends will be more in line with what I'm after.

Same here. I like Demigod, but either there's a memory leak or a lag leak, but 99% of my games turn into slide shows in the last 3rd (when Giants and Angels and Catapulsari enter the game). Also, 8 heroes compared to the 30+ DOTA had DID make me feel some what restricted. I like the flexibility to make new builds you have in Demigod, but I would really like to see more hero types that complement each other (besides Bramble Shield and Healing Wind).

I also don't love the way Demigood looks, sometimes more is actually more people!!

Wow, they are really going for a familiar experience for old DotA player...

Does look like fun - I'll be glad to replace Demigod.

I'm offended Edxactly. How dare you speak such sins.

Edxactly is demoted to quartus-god.

I just saw that this is free to play and am planning on giving this a shot. I've never played DOTA or Demigod, but this seems more friendly to new players and has decently low system specs from what I gather.

How will games be put together? Does anyone know if there is a friends list in the game, or do people meet up in Vent (which I've only used a few times). I think I heard we'll need 10 people to play a game, or 5 if we are just one side. Also, I think it's supposed to be out some time this month.

Its fun, gameplay is slower than dota but faster than demigod; though a total game takes around 30-40 minutes which in only the longest of demigod games. There are alot more characters but they use the dota leveling system giving you only 5 choices on where to put your points and at max level you will always have everything. Of the retail rpg arena style games I think I've gotten the most enjoyment out of LoL, though the community of demigod doesn't make me as angry as the other 2.

LoL has an in-game friends list and a good matchmaking system which gives it a leg up on HoN and Demigod on that front.

Incidentally they've eased up on the NDA for LoL so beta testers can talk about it. I've played it for about a week. I find it very similar to HoN/DotA but with some minor improvements. The fact that it's going to be free to play is a big plus. Personally Demigod is still my favorite rpg arena style game but I've kind of played it out so I won't mind playing a free DotA game.

The shame is palpable.

Latrine, is there any chance you could get a GWJ set of people going with the invites. I don't know if you have any or any left over for your "internet friends." You can be our commander and let us know what to do.

Unfortunately I don't have any beta invites to hand out for LoL. I've still got like 5 for HoN though if you're interested, heh.

I just got in the beta. I'm downloading it right now. It will be hard to move me from Demigod!

what's your guys's names in LoL? Mine is Petriefied.

-Kazar
-Latrine
-PandaEskimo
-Petriefied

Looks like we have 5. I have no idea what I'm doing so if someone would like to help me out that would be great. Can we make a Vent channel for LOL? I don't even know if right clicking or left clicking is attack :).

Add me up, just got my account active: Hobbes2099

As soon as we get keys we'll post here.

Did I just speak in plural? As soon as I get keys, I'll post them here.

Just after I figured out how to set up a game with only me and 1 bot to learn the rules (while talking to people in vent) and had managed to figure out what was happening, the server crashed. :(. At least I have a clue now.

For non DOTA players, here is my mini guide:

Mini Guide wrote:

The goal of LOL is to laugh out loud...ok, sorry.

Goal & Structure: The goal of the game is to get to the enemy's base and destroy their buildings. Each game can have up to 5 players (or bots) on each team. There are three main paths through the level. There are powerful turrets on each path and each team's army automatically attacks down each of these three paths. Both the armies and turrets can be destroyed and will go along their business automatically. You control one character called a "champion" who is a much more powerful character than the regular army units.

Attacking & Movement: Right click to move your unit. Right click on an enemy unit to attack that unit. Left click on a spell icon and then left click on a unit or area to use that spell. Spells can also be selected with the hot keys "Q," "W," "E," "R," "A," and "S."

Leveling & Spells: There are three bars at the bottom center of the screen, health, mana, and experience. Each spell uses an amount of mana, and when your experience bar fills, you gain a level. Each time you gain a level, you can learn a new spell, or upgrade a spell. This is done with the "+1" icons on the left. Each "+1" icon will increase the spell that the icon is over or if the spell hasn't been learned, you will learn that spell. Each character can initially learn the first three, and after gaining 6 (I think) levels, you can learn the forth spell. Some spells have effects that last for a certain amount of time, while others can be used on enemies.

The Store & Items: The gold bag icon (or "P") will take you to the store where you can buy items with gold (earned mainly through killing enemies). The main way you choose to customize your character is through buying items. These can do things such as increase your health and give you the ability to regenerate health. The icons on the top right are the suggested items. You need to be close to the store (at your base) to buy items.

Dying & Teleporting: When your character dies, you respawn at your base after a short while. A quick way to get back into battle is to teleport. Teleporting lets you instantly travel to another location on the map (after 4 seconds). This location must be a friendly tower. Click on teleport and then click on the tower you want to go to. You can do this even if you haven't died, but you need to have the spell ability.

Runes, Summoner Spells, & Focus: From the main screen before you launch the game, you can configure a few more buffs. A run of a matching color can be placed in a book which will give any character that buff. The higher level your summoner, the more runes you can use. You can also choose learn spells such as teleporting from that interface. When you pick your champion, you can give them two more spells that your summoner knows. You can also add another buff in the focus (might be called something else) screen.

A vent channel has been created for us, so that should be a good place for team speak.

should we wait until the beta opens up to set up our on vent channel or get one going right away?
