Epic Mickey Catch-All

I played some more of this a couple of weeks ago. While the game is such an obvious failure (props to Certis for raising his concerns per-release) I still love the art and idea of the game. Also, crazy that the best parts of the game came from an Idel Thumber.

I'm really enjoying the tone of Epic Mickey 2 with the songs and all. Obviously I'm playing the demo, but I'm very much enjoying it.

I suppose I should mention I'm not a fan of the cursor as it completely breaks my immersion, but I can get over that.

It looks like Disney is shutting Junction Point down after the poor reception of Epic Mickey 2. I wonder where Warren Spector, et al. will end up next.

Warren Spector's Kickstarter project appearing in 3......2.......1......

Not surprising news, and I still think Epic Mickey is a great concept just Disney wasn't funding the project enough to do it right. Especially after they barely fixed any of the first game's issues in Epic Mickey 2.

Please be Arkane, Irrational, or Eidos Montreal. *crosses fingers*

I'm not sad at this at all, but very hopefully. The Epic Mickey games never seemed to 'click' despite the fact that of the obvious talent there. Being in the Texas area, they'll all likely be OK, and now Warren has a better chance to work on something I may like. Good luck to those jobless.

Assuming he's got talented people working with him and something more than sketches and concept art, I'd be happy with that. Warren hasn't produced anything in 13 years (since Deus Ex) that really clicked for me. Amazing career and a hell of a legacy, but I don't know if he's still into making the kind of games I want to play. Execution on Mickey was not stellar in terms of polish and controls. They didn't even manage to clear that up when they got a sequel. Huge bummer.

Totally agree. When you look at that original "leaked" concept art and what was actually delivered it's pretty disappointing.

the leaked art wasn't a game that was going to be made. the problem isn't with the art of what they delivered, it was the gameplay.

Well we're all on board about the gameplay sucking but I do think that the original concept art which did the rounds speaks to a very different game than the saccharine outing that was delivered.

It was art for nothing. It never was a game. It was never going to get made. I played the first game and it wasn't saccharine at all, it 's Mickey Mouse. The world/theme/everything but the gameplay was fantastic in the first one.
