Recettear - An Item Shop's Tale

Well I got it in the indie pack. But I was trying out the games in alphabetical order, so it might be a minute (read: days) before I get to it.

Subscribing

That indie pack is STUPID good value. I was thinking about it just for the 1 game in it that I don't have that I'd like (And Yet it moves)

Hi. Indie pack looked pretty sweet.

Also snagged this in the indie pack, looks like fun! I had tried out the recent item shop game on the PS3 and liked it in concept but couldn't quite get into it. From my brief time with it so far it already seems like a much more interesting game.

Great deal on that pack, too!

Put four hours into this game. I haven't missed a payment yet. I almost missed the first one but barely got by. I was shocked at the second payment but will make that easily. Selling at 240% markup when items are hard to come by made the difference. I think someone said the next payment was going to be 80k. I hope not because that will be hard. And that little girl is robbing me blind. Get out of my store if you don't want to pay my price.

Did I miss this on sale!? Damnit, I can't believe I forgot to check Steam sales at my parents' house.

Nah recettear wasn't on sale. It was in a pack with 4 other indie games, all together on sale for $5.

Nah recettear wasn't on sale. It was in a pack with 4 other totally awesome indie games, all together on sale for $5. ;)

Fixed for ya.

Sorry, Yonder

Yeah I haven't even played this yet. And yet it moves has been fun though.

I believe the value of the games in the pack was $59.95, for $5 you'd have to feel REALLY bad to miss that one.
I'm NOT sorry, Yonder :P

This difficulty of this game ramps up way too quickly, and it's much shorter than I thought it would be.

Spoiler for payment amounts and number of weeks:

Spoiler:

The first payment was cake (10,000) , the second was tricky (30,000), the third was difficult (80,000), and I'm stuck on the fourth which is dang-near impossible (200,000). The fifth and final payment is a whopping 500,000.

Spoiler for failure:

Spoiler:

If you fail to pay the required amount, you start over at day two with 1,000 pix but a number of things from your failed play-through stick around: Merchant Level, Items and store upgrades, adventurer gear and level, loyalty and budget of customers, as well as adventurers who have given you their true card. You'll probably have to fail at least once to complete the game.

Has the game been a bit laggy for anyone else? The in-game framerate counter has been a solid 59-60fps for me, but I've noticed some slowdown when moving from screen to screen in the dungeons. The framerate counter doesn't drop when this happens, and I don't remember having this issue in the demo.

Win7 64-bit / i5 750 / 4GB ram / HD5770

You can beat it on one playthrough if you're good, but looping it once or twice makes it much easier.

The game goes on a very long time after you pay off your debt, btw.

I get screen tearing if I play in windowed mode. Also the game tends to slow down when you do some insane super attack and hit 8 monsters at once. Not sure if that is by design.

I can't believe I missed this on the sale. Goddamit, been watching for it, didn't think to look inside the pack. Stupid! Well, it's not like I'd have the time to play it now anyway. Enjoy, you more perceptive peers, you.

Yeah, I spotted it literally in the last seconds. When the payment came through the store opened to another day's sale

I was amazed when I saw it in the pack. Fantastic value. I sincerely don't think I will make the second payment. Does this game have a legitimate end?

Yes, albeit it's waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay after the story ends. You can spend some serious time playing this game to get all of the upgrades and characters.

I've got too many things on my backlog. I am likely to be done once I finish the main story.

I didn't mean it in a bad way. Just think of it as a value add should you ever decide to come back to it after you've finished the story.

I didn't take it in a bad way, but if the story itself is over I don't feel a strong pull to get everything.

The story continues far past the "end" of the game. Lots more heroes and dungeons to see!

In fact its probably impossible to see even half of the stuff on loop 1.

Also picked this up in the sale. Not a fan of the art style, but I do like the game and I can see why so many people were talking about it when it came out. The combat reminds me a lot of the first Zelda game and the one on the SNES.

I've made the first three payments, but I can't see myself making the fourth. I'm glad to hear you can carry stats over into another run through.

Too bad there isn't a Mac version.

I didn't even make the first payment, although mainly because I was too aggressive on the 10th day. Pretty fun but already seems like it could get repetitive.

I can see that too. I went with listening to a podcast while I went to dungeons and such.

I was on my honeymoon! Yarg!

Worth it, though!

It does, and that doesn't seem to be a problem.

I've got 7 or 8 hours into it and can't seem to stop playing it. It's got such a nice compartmentilization of time (your time is 4 units, selling takes ~4mins, dungeons take ~5mins a floor) that I keep wanting to do just one more.

Granted, I've only just now passed payment 2, but I'm loving it so far.

how do i leave the dungeon, do i have to go through all the levels to get out?

No, you get the option to leave every 5 levels. The first tutorial dungeon is only 5 levels long but it introduces that concept.
