New BBC show: Sherlock Holmes, by Steven Moffat!

Why did they need to throw the corpse out the window right then?

Been awhile since I watched it but I thought they said Watson needed to see a body. A bike guy then knocks Watson down giving him time get gross and change position with the dummy.

If I remember correctly, Sherlock disguised himself and fooled Watson in the books as well. Although, not to such comedic effect.

Spoiler:

I had been thinking that Watson would shoot Magnussen, for not only tweaking his nose but to protect Sherlock and Molly.

spoilerific details in the clear (if you were fast enough)!
Spoiler:

The title of the episode is His Last Vow. At Watson's wedding, Sherlock vowed that he would never him down and always be there for both him and Mary. For a highly functioning sociopath, it made sense that he'd do exactly what he did. As soon as we found out the truth about the vaults, I knew exactly how it would play out.

Oh it made perfect sense. I only thought John would beat him to it.

What, no one watched tonight? Not everyone torrents their shows from across the pond.

I did. Love this show so much. Missed the first few minutes while I was setting up the new TV stand, but I'll watch it again at work tomorrow.

I'm waiting for PBS to stream it through their Roku channel in a day or two.

I thought this "season" was okay, but it would have been much better as a setup of 3 more shows happening in less than a year. When exactly is it supposed to be back?

I thought the entire season was brilliant, but I have mixed feelings about the very final stinger:

Spoiler:

It would have been a great end to the show to just leave it hanging with Sherlock shooting Magnussen and having a murder conviction hanging over his head. Bringing a very, very dead Moriarty back in some way…well, sometimes it's not a good idea to pander to what your audience is asking for. Granted, I thought the guy who played Moriarty, and the writers' reimagining of his role, were absolutely brilliant, but we saw him put a bullet through his own brain at close range, and the writers have said multiple times, "He's dead, Jim."

Sure, they could do the ol' "no really, he's dead but he set up a bunch of contingencies to run in the event of his death!", but I dunno, that just reeks of desperation. When Moriarty died in the books, he was dead and pretty much never mentioned again. Leave it that way! Moffitt could surprise me, but I'm not holding my breath here.

Otherwise, the other 4 hours and 29 minutes of this season were fantastic.

Spoiler:

He pulled a Fight Club. He's just that clever.

Three very different episodes all terrific in my mind. Glad to hear there's a probability of a fourth season.

I did! Simply excellent. This season felt like it had a lot of fan service bits, but we're all fans by now, aren't we?

Still waiting to watch (going to watch with the kids, and we had evening activities going on Sunday-Monday-Tuesday. So tonight, if they get their homework done.)

I managed to get spoiled on the twist

Spoiler:

Did you miss me?

but I don't think it's going to affect my enjoyment of the rest of the show. Quite looking forward to it -- everyone had better get their homework done on time!

If you haven't seen it already, Sesame Street had Benedict on to do a clip:

(There's a bit of a nod to Season 3, Episode 3, in this.)

Naturally, somebody on tumblr decided it needed a Drunk Sherlock filter:

The Drunk Sherlock deductions were my favorite part of episode two. I thought the case was a little weak, though.

Spoiler:

How can you not notice you've been stabbed?

I'd originally heard rumors of Christmas 2014, but current reports are saying that plan has slipped, with no further dates given.

Turns out my son knows some other kids who watch, and got spoiled on the ending. (While waiting for us to watch, he inhaled all of the ACD Sherlock stories. Perhaps we'll watch the Jeremy Brett series next.)

And we realized that my daughter, who hasn't seen season 1 or season 2, had no idea the backstory behind the cliffhanger. I guess that's going to put me on deck to explain Irene Adler when she does watch season 2.

And because I apparently have a tumblr problem...

(image linked for language. Relates to the video, not anything you'd be uncomfortable about finding on tumblr. Unless muppets make you uncomfortable.)

Warm velvety muppet sex.

I just finished listening to this reading of A Study in Scarlet, the first Sherlock Holmes book. I'm completely amazed at how modern the book reads! Also, it has a fascinating story within a story taking place in Utah with Brigham Young as the villain. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle poking fun at Mormons was terribly amusing to me. That reading on LibraVox was recommended to me by a coworker who was also really impressed. It's excellent.

It's amazing how well the show Sherlock captures the characters of Sherlock and Watson. They also kept a lot of elements from A Study in Scarlet for A Study in Pink even though they changed the story dramatically.

This article/story from The Toast is hilarious.

Cats

I was once beaten with a lead pipe in a Turkish prison. If given the choice between returning to that chapter of my life and seeing Cats again, I’d pick the lead pipe with a smile.

"His Last Vow" got four Emmys for Cinematography, Picture Editing, Music Composition and Sound Editing.

I suppose I will continue talking to myself.

They've started location scouting for next season.

And Cumberbatch has gotten engaged.

Can't wait to see it

Those Emmys are well earned. I've watched the making of some episodes. Very interesting.

It's easy enough to find photos from the location filming if you want to go looking, so I won't post here. I will say that this particular tweet made me laugh. (No actual photos... but related to them, so if you are extremely spoiler-averse, avoid.)

BBC has released a teaser trailer for this year's single special episode (they're not calling it a Christmas special, perhaps because they don't when it's going to air yet):

They've announced (at London Comic Con) the title and air date for the special. It will air on January 1st in the UK and US (not sure about Canada or elsewhere).

Title, video of the announcement, and promo image under the spoiler

Spoiler:

The title is "The Abominable Bride".

The New Year special has just been shown here. We all enjoyed it (Me, Mrs Smith, 12yo son, 10yo daughter). I think it'll be divisive - I can see lots of people who dislike Moffat's tenure on Doctor Who for crazy plotting will probably really hate it.

Spoiler:

I would have probably been happy with a complete Victorian Sherlock without the whole thing being a simulation in Sherlock's head, but I found it fun and funny rather than wanky and self-indulgent.

My guess is they wanted to devote more than one episode to the Moriarty coming back - or not - and they only had the actors for enough time for a special. I imagine many column inches will be devoted to whether the suffragette thing is feminist, hamfistedly feminist, or actually misogynistic.

I really enjoyed it, I can see how some people are going to go against it because of how Moffat it is.

Spoiler:

Loved how it played out and Andrew Scott is so good in that role. I now want a programme that has him playing off against Michelle Gomez, that would be epic. .

The PBS live stream has failed me. Will give it another try tomorrow.

What I did see, I enjoyed very much.
