Two words: Grapefruit Diet

(Sadly, copy-pasting the youtube "embed" code didn't work.)

See you guys on Thursday, 7 pm at Johnnie Fox's.

Lets hope you guys can find us. Last time we had a meet-up here (in DC), one of the GWJers were lost because he didn't know what we look like.

OK, so here's the list of people who are definitely coming on the 21st (so far as I can tell anyway):

Me (Mimble)
Kepheus
Jinniee +3
Vector
Tamren
Gravey
Cory
lord_haven
0kelvin
muttonchop

And the list of maybes:

Deadmonkeys
Krenn
Matokin
Amoebic

So, possibly 17 of us. I'm wondering now if I should make reservations somewhere with more space to seat people if all of us show up.

My second place of choice would be the Kingston Taphouse. I think there are even pool tables downstairs (don't quote me on that though) and the food is great.

Any thoughts on this while I still have time to sort out an alternative?

Might be a good idea. I haven't been to Johnnie Fox's in a while but I don't remember them having very big tables. I haven't tried the Kingston but anything downtown is pretty convenient for me.

Yeah, they sounded a bit iffy about having a group of ten - another possible seven people might not go over too well. The Kingston has loads of space and, typically, more servers. A larger group will work better there.

I'll wait until the end of day to let everyone have a chance to see this - and then call and make a new reservation at the Kingston (assuming everyone is OK with it).

Jinniee, maybe you can edit the thread title to alert folks to the location change? I'd hate for anyone to get left behind.

I'm fine with either choice. We probably want to go with the bigger option. It sounds like we will have a lot of people and it will probably end up being more than planned.

Doesn't the Frog and Firkin have a big room in the back that'd be good for a large group? It's a big pub anyway, on Broadway about a block and a half from Burrard, so not too far for downtowners. I saw a group of guys playing Magic in one of the booths there once, so apparently it even has some nerd cred.

I'm not sure about the Frog and Firkin - I've never been there.

If the general consensus is that we should go there instead, I'm OK with that and will make the reservation there - I just need to know today where we're headed. Perhaps we can use the Frog and Firkin as the backup plan if the Kingston falls through on space?

The Kingston Taphouse sounds good to me.

Edit: As long as our group is under 20 people we can order from the regular menu. If it gets bigger, however, our choices are limited.

Kingston Taphouse sounds good to me.

jinniee raises a good question. Since I haven't had the pleasure to meet any of you in real life, how will we recognize each other?

When you arrive, make a call like an owl, not once, not twice, but thrice. If a goodjer is present, they will respond with the sound of an ocelot, mewling ponderously. Move in that direction. Stop when you hear two simultaneous dog barks, one high, one medium-high. You have found the group. If you a hear sound like a cow lowing irritably into the sound box of a zither, you have gone too far.

OK! New info!

The reservation name will get you shown to the right table, but anyone who wants to hoot like an owl is welcome to - because that would be funny.

If anyone thinks they might like a contact number - PM me and I'll happily give you my cell number.

It took me 30 minutes to find those three photos. There are 490 of me tagged on facebook and those are somehow the best that most represent what I look like. I am a chameleon.

I'm for sure on the 21st at the taphouse now, +1 for my husband (Philosofrenzy on the boards).
Glad we moved it to a larger venue : )
Johnny Fox's looks great, though, will have to go there some other time.

A few pictures of some of us!

Here's a pic with my mug + some folks.

The only decent picture I could find was from my trip to a shooting range in Las Vegas.

I'd... prefer not to post a picture of myself holding a gun.

Is it too late to throw two more names in the ring for Thursday at the Taphouse? Emily and I weren't sure we would be able to make it, but now that I'm gainfully employed I would love to beer it up with GWJ fans again.

Wow this is getting huge! I'm giddy with excitement. Will our reservation hold 20 peeps?

If it won't, it's totally cool! I can catch the next one for sure.

I loathe the notion of turning people away, so I really hope that's not our only option. (you're committed. You're in! No turning back, now) Just that the headcount should be upped for the reservation if necessary.

If something goes wrong on thursday there's also Saturday.

Drinks or something. I don't know. Honestly I'm supplying the venue but have been way too busy with school to do much else.

Gravey wrote:

Still technically a rifle though.

Yeah Vector, don't sweat it, you're doing plenty! The rest of us can bring snacky foods, beverages, boardgames, and stuff like that. I think I'm going to bake cookies and make fudge. This is stuff we could figure out over beers thursday night, too, or start posting here.

Well if it's too many people, I can always get another table for my group. I can just walk around later on. =) No worries! Half of my friends isn't on GWJ.

I think we should reserve like 2 more seats than the actual number in case some people shows up..........out of nowhere.

and..... i think you guys will recognize me.......

Huh, you're right.

Bureaucrat Gravey, you are technically correct -- the best kind of correct.

Any word on what the final plans are for saturday?
