R.U.S.E Catch-All

I do agree with Latrine! (God I love Top Secret!)

I think snubbing RUSE (if you are otherwise inclined to enjoy it) hurts the developer more than UBI. Still not sure if I will pick it up, but I think the release was pushed to June. Plenty of time to see if the DRM is stripped for unpopularity or otherwise modified before then.

Still has Ubi DRM. Not going to even bother at this point.

Yeah, breaks my freaking heart.

I really wish there was a way of letting Ubi know how much money they're loosing because of that crap. God knows they lost at least $240 from me by now.

I'll most likely download for the free weekend to check and see if anything's changed since the last open beta, but yeah, the fact that Ubisoft is continuing this DRM breaks my heart too.

What bugs me is that for those who don't buy RUSE because of the DRM (but might otherwise have because of their interest in the game), the only people that decision is really affecting are the developers. Ubisoft isn't likely to notice, and more likely won't care; they'll interpret lost sales as lack of interest in the game and will be less likely to support the developer (Eugen Systems) when they want to do something novel as they did with RUSE.

Even IF Ubi somehow can determine what % of sales are lost as a result of their DRM schemes, the majority share of the negative impact will be born by the developer and not Ubi. And that's a shame.

I should caveat all of this by saying I despise Ubi's DRM scheme as well, and I enjoyed my time in the early RUSE beta.

Same here. I was so excited about the game when I first saw it and even more so when I actually tried it. But then they implemented this DRM and that just put me off every game they release with it. I've been playing PoP since the first one back in the early 90s as well as Splinter Cell but I haven't bought and won't buy anything Ubi releases no matter how much I would have liked to play it until they reconsider.

Played my first game against the AI. This game could be really good. I could see this being the first rts I really get into in MP. Even if you won't buy it, might as well check out the free preview.

I'm in the same boat of wanting to try it, but refusing to buy it and hating that I'm in this situation. I'm tempted to not even try the thing this weekend, because if I really like it, I'll be even more sad.

Ubi doesn't get a dime from me.

Damn, multiplayer is currently down.

Damn I like this game too...I'm not buying it with that crappy DRM. What a shame.

I saw the free weekend banner on steam and got really happy. I clicked on it and saw it was an RTS and got even happier. The gameplay video looked really snazzy! I scrolled down to install the free trial and saw it was from Ubisoft...

So I finished Avencast and started up Dawn of War instead.

Now there is one more game on my list of things to buy when Ubisoft rolls back their DRM.

I tried the free weekend this weekend and I really liked it.

The ability to hide stuff and the slow speed of most units is interesting.

I also like how they did air. I can't wait to see what they do with navel units. Will it have them?

Navel units? Like, dudes who shoot guns from their bellybuttons?

sig worthy.

The trailer with the touchscreen monitor has naval units, but given that it has taken them this long to tweak the game with feedback without the inclusion of sea units, I think it's unlikely. Maybe it will become DLC later on?

So just back from a music festival to see that they extended the weekend trial to Wednesday. Came on here to get some impressions and am seeing the dislike of Ubisoft. Making me think twice about even using my time to download the demo

Lets see how I feel tomorrow.

Anyone considering skirting the UbiSoft DRM protest by picking up RUSE on a console platform?

My PC hasn't been game-worthy for years, so it's the only option I have personally.

For an RTS, this game looks very doable on a console. I think I might have to bite with the 360 version if it's received well.

Didn't know it was coming to console. I'm going pick up the DS version.

Won't pick up the console version either, because that just tells them that they shouldn't bother putting out the PC version.

I wish there was a way to tell them "Hey guys, if you take out the DRM, I will give you money for the PC version." Unfortunately, not buying it tells them that they shouldn't make this type of game. There's no good option for those of us who want the game, but won't support the DRM.

You could write them a letter. Sending them a snail mail letter lets them know that you are serious.

I'd love that reality too. Unfortunately, it's been announced for the PC, 360, and PS3.

I had trouble connecting to anything another than a 1v1, but it was a beta. I'd love for Relic's games to run this smoothly.

I'm also impressed with their community outreach. They've had two of these weekends, both extended, and their site, besides being easy to navigate, is hardly the normal pre-release marketing game site.

There's a great game here; too bad about the DRM.

I've had a couple of 2v2 matches work out really well connection wise, but for the most part one person out of four would drop out mid-game due to connection/ping issues. Not really a knock against RUSE, seeing as I experienced that all that time with CoH.

Great news everybody!

PC players, please note that R.U.S.E. will not use the Ubisoft protection since it will benefit from Valve’s Steamworks API.

Heyo!

Alrighty! This goes on my list of things to watch out for on sale. It's tempting to pre-order it right now to join a (hopeful) blip in preorders right after this goes public in an effort to get the point across. $50 is just too pricey for me though, but at around half that I'm in.

Hooray!

Damn, that means I'll need to spend more money. Boo!

Tagged out of curiousity how this will turn out.

With this excellent news this has become a game to watch again.
