Euro goodjer meetup in London? (HaakCon 2010 et al)

Yeah, I hope he recovers soon.

Are you rescheduling? There's another bank holiday at the end of the month too.

Not sure really, but I'll keep you posted. Thank you all for wishes of good health, the problem is really a minor one, but as Fedaykin says, sick baby is always scary.

Wow, that's rough news, WT. I hope the minor stuff gets sorted out and you're all at home together by the end of the weekend.

What does the rest of the group want to do? Shall we reschedule for when WT is back in Blighty?

What am I doing here, you ask? Just monitoring Haakon7's movements as part of my responsibilities as president of his fan club...

And thanks keeping tabs on me, Fed! I'm not sure if I'm going to make the next meeting, but I trust it will go well in my absence. At least it couldn't be as bad as the time you got the strippers in and tried to make them members! (Or could it?)

I can think of two options here - which are, of course, not mutually exclusive:

1. We carry on regardless and just drink some more to make up for WT. I am totally up for this.

2. Ms.Floomi and I are having our annual BBQ during the late May bank holiday - the 29th. We live in Cambridge. While I appreciate it's a little more difficult to get to, we had one in one of the parks last year and it was pretty awesome. Oh, and you know what else is happening on the 29th? The (last day of the) Cambridge Beer Festival.

So you're most welcome to gatecrash our BBQ and/or head over to the Beer Festival. And then (depending on numbers) back to my place for some of them videogame things people on this site seem to be talking about.

Cambridge is not exactly convenient for me to get to, but I'd be up for this if there was a quorum. It would be fun to do the King Street Run again.

I'd love to do the Cambridge thing as I'd like to be off the booze this week anyway.

Now, how have I missed this thread? Have you been hiding it from me? Gits.

I'm definitely interested in meeting up, though all of these southern locations are a bit tricky! If we are emulating the rural nature of Rabbitcon, Spidercon would be out in the wilds of Yorkshire...

Somewhat more seriously, given enough notice, I'm definitely up for a meet; I'll even venture south of Manchester, if I must!

Ooh! Cambridge barbeque! Normally I'd be well up for this. But as fun as Pimms on the lawn sounds, I've got a match at Over Wallop (classic) on the 29th of May. So the 29th is not good for me, but that shouldn't stop people from participating in the Floomi fun.

Where do you live in Cambridge, Mr. F? I spent a year there and my wife's a Tab, so I've done my fair share of drinking around the town.

Since I can't make it, I'll get the diary squared away and put something in for HaakCon, if folks are still up for that. (Spider, if you're making the stretch from the dales, I imagine - between Dudley and I - we could find you a couch in the area!)

Just north of the city, about 20 minutes' walk into town

If you promise not to let your whippets eat black pudding in my house, I have a spare double room.

So, Girton?

Speaking of missing English Goodjers, where is 1Dgaf in all this?

No, not even that far. I live pretty much where Histon Road, Huntingdon Road, and Victoria Road meet. I guess it's less than 20 minutes into town, depending on what you consider "town". For me, it's Sainsburys

So you're right next to New Hall, then, or as we used to refer to it "The Virgin Megastore". (Newnham was the Kitchen Reject Shop")

Near Nether Wallop?

New Hall's been renamed, hasn't it?

I was on the other side of town down Hills Road, if that helps. Are you talking about the Sainsbury's that's there across from Emma? My reference point was always the market.

And Middle Wallop. The Wallops, as we call them.

My favourite British place name =)

I see that you're right, and it's changed/going to change its name to "Murray Edwards College". I didn't know that. Given that New Hall was always, somewhat unfairly, considered the duffer college (or at least it was in my time, 18 years ago) since some of its freshers were pooled there after being rejected by other colleges, I would have expected them to have chosen a more impressive name, rather than one that sounds like a sixth form college.

Yeah, considering its been New Hall for 20+ years, it feels a little strange. All tied up in substantial sponsorships and that sort of thing. I don't know who Murray Edwards is, but he must be making a mint.

And you're right. Does sound like a 6th-form.

Two women, rather than one man, apparently:
However, it was announced in June 2008 that New Hall would be renamed in memory of its first President, Dame Rosemary Murray, and alumna Ros Smith (Mrs Edwards) and her husband Steve Edwards who had recently made a donation of £30 million to the College.[

Hi guys, we're not rescheduling anytime soon (basically, hotel was a good price, but no refunds, so we changed the tickets to my parents-in-law and they will use it, but we are paying), so don't mind me when planning. I will definitely notify you if anything changes. Also, post inappropriate pictures and funny stories!

I guess tomorrow's been called off, then?

As far as I'm aware, yeah.
Not sure if anyone's made a decision about your bbq, though.

I'm keeping an eye on you Euro Goodjer Meetup thread.

The wife and I are planning a sweeping trip through Ireland, Britain, and France at some point this summer.

How about late summer? I'll be in London for two weeks in late August or first half of September and would love to meet with some Goodjer menfolk. I'll post exact dates later this month so we can try to it work out in some details (unless it turns out that no one cares ;])

BTW: Anyone traveling to Paris or Lisbon in July? I'll be hopping around Europe quite a bit

Arise, thread!

Who's hosting the UK Goodjer BBQ then?

pork?

Its me, but I've been slacking on organising the inaugural HaakCon (on account of busy weekends and a possible job change coming up.)

So let me try and correct that by throwing some weekends out there and seeing how everybody is set.

We could go with the aforementioned cricket/bbq/games arrangement on the weekend of the 28th of August. I've got a home game on that day, but folks would be welcome to watch that/drink and then play games on the Saturday evening/Sunday.

If we feel like a day's worth of fun would be enough, there's a Sunday match that weekend, so that could be another possibility. Or I can not play cricket and we could have a Sunday of grilling out and games on the 22nd or 29th of August, or 5th September?

Or if we want to rule out a match altogether, there's the weekends of the 11th and 18th of September, where we could have the requisite slapping & tickling at ours on the Saturday and/or Sunday and I can rustle up a pot of chili or fire up the grill as the weather requires.

Late August best for me. I'm flying back to Godzone for a visit all September.

Sounds fun! I might be up for that.

@ Maq: No, no.. the OTHER other meat.
