(PC) TF2 GWJ 2010 Summer Tournament (There can be... only one. )

Today is July 1st, and I am officially a free agent for the next tournament. Does your team need pro-quality airblasting? Think Cyranix!

I was thinking maybe two captains or pickers per team because some people may want to captain but not be very good at the actual drafting part. Otherwise you could just do it like a fantasy draft.

I am inexperienced in the ways of the fantasy draft, how's that work?

I was kind of hoping for a team scramble, all due respect to TFP and its members.

Yeah, next time I was thinking we should do a draft thing.

First see how many people in total we got (need at least 120 for 8 teams) and then pick team captains, and then each captain picks one player, then the next captain goes, etc.

I was thinking maybe two captains or pickers per team because some people may want to captain but not be very good at the actual drafting part. Otherwise you could just do it like a fantasy draft.

I was thinking Mex and two other people can basically slog through everyone and assign teams. We can do a random, then rearrange things a bit.

Or we could have the team captains do rock-paper-scissors...

Team 7: please get me your steam IDs so I can make sure people get medals. A PM would be great.

I like how you didn't even try to justify quoting that picture.

I'm just happy people noticed her tattoo. :D

There's a tattoo?
(j/k - I see it)

Usually, fantasy drafts are done in serpentine order. Say there are 8 teams, then the guy with the first pick gets that first pick but has to wait until the end of the second round to pick again, the guy with the 8th pick gets that pick and the 9th pick as well.

The draft order would look like this (assuming 8 teams):

Round 1: 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5 - 6 - 7 - 8
Round 2: 8 - 7 - 6 - 5 - 4 - 3 - 2 - 1
Round 3: 1 - 2 ... etc.

It's intended to even things out a little.

I still like the idea of a draft where the teams are chosen and then randomly assigned to the captains. That way, there is a real push to make the teams as even as possible, as you don't know what team you'll be captaining.

That's kinda what I am hoping for. We get some people together that are willing to work on it, but assign captains later. I think it would help also if we would do two three team leagues, with each team having more players, and designate specific nights as game nights, so people can be more prepared for games.

And if we lower the team numbers, we could probably have each team play a playoff game, R1vsB1, and so on.

Those are just a couple ideas kicking around in my head.

I like this idea. Also that the draft is private, so that you don't know whether you were chosen first for that team or last.

I hope the next tourney has cheerleaders.

By the way, I didn't see it discussed much before, but what about the idea of giving silver medals to all the teams that reached the semi-finals? That way the split would be 1 team getting the gold medals, 3 teams getting silver, and 4 getting bronze.

I fully support this idea, and would like to subscribe to your newsletter.

Disagree. I respect all the teams, but UNO fought like hell and deserves to stand out.

If we want to open the floodgates, I'd propose that teams who played in the championship get gold, teams in the semis get silver, and everyone else gets bronze.

Valve might be a bit annoyed at the administrative overhead. Handing out eight or nine medals once a year is one thing, doing 50 once a quarter is probably a wee bit over the top.

And that's even making a huge assumption, that they'd be willing to do it a second time!

I, for no particular reason, am in favor of all the semi-finalists getting silver medals

Pretty sure that's what was agreed on during round play several weeks back after the medals were made. Have to dig back several pages, but I know I posted something about the same idea and wasn't the only one. Seems fair, and a reward for the 4 teams that advanced.

Edit: looks like Tannhauser suggested back on page 48, and I agreed. And Tempest asked for a gold for making them. And no one else really said anything.

I say we have the other two teams from the semis duke it out for third place and the winner gets bronze.

I like this idea, except I would make one small change: UNO gets nothing and everyone else gets golds.

I tried to set up a third-place game. I was ignored.

What matters here is J5 members all get gold no matter what. We are above your petty bickering.

Still waiting on the Attic Rave and the Fairy Princesses. Get it together men!

re: Mexs Community Gun
All I did was ask, Robin Walker was cool enough listen.

I'm on vacation now with a laptop that can't run TF2. Somebody youtube some highlights from the match so I can watch.

My 2cents for medals is J5-Gold, UNO-Silver, everybody else bronze.

That sounds about right, IMO.

For what it's worth. TFP concurs.

We're just happy to get a medal

I've sent PMs, but I'm still waiting on several people. Will let you know as soon as I've got 'em all.

Helpful hint: If your team is SUPER lazy (except for two people whose names start with an N) just plug all their profiles into http://steamidfinder.com/ and take care of it for them.

Or stand proud and deny them medals to teach them a lesson. Whichever =)

When we get the medals, is there any indicator on our account that we've received it?
