technically, this should read,

Dear GWJ,

I am IamRobot.

Maybe that's the spoiler.

Dude, spoilers!

Who let our IRC Goodjer bot onto the forums? What madness is this?!

It depends on which mainline you are referring to. I've drawn up a chart* to illustrate the mainlines and possible issues (existing and perceived) with continued game development over an extended timeline.

*I didn't actually draw the chart, just rewrote the names.

I remember with sadness the death of the sail barge era of PC gaming.

Who doesn't?! It was a sad day indeed.

Is it too early to start making "in before the lock" announcements?

It does seem a bit out of character for a thread with a legitimate (albeit poorly-worded) question to train-wreck the way this one has.

Oh well.

What with E3 hangover and traveling to get home, I think we're still free to run around painting the site red for quite some time.

Has he replied since? He he said anything else, ever? And as was pointed out, there's a thread for this already. I think we're free to let loose.

And why hasn't IamRobot come back to post again? I guess he was a marketing plant, like the GWJCC crew mentioned, probing us for our responses. I think we may have dodged a bullet—if we had said something like "This console life cycle is almost over, I think the new generation is right around the corner", then that information would have gone back to the manufacturers and boom, new consoles announced.

So good job all around, everyone. We've saved each other a few hundred dollars.

I wonder if this is the same IamRobot who asked me what I would like in a new Need for Speed game, when I said I'd like it to be like the old '90s ones, oh and wouldn't it be awesome if the dudes who made Burnout could make it.

Insep dates. The candle that shines twice as bright burns half as long.

You mainline console lifecycles? I freebase PC light cycles.
