Rock Band 3 looks pretty awesome!

RE: importing Rock Band 1:

Mine was already imported from when I bought Rock Band 2 so they were just there already. However, I assume it should still work the same as before. Simply put in the Rock Band 1 disc and select Export Songs from the Options Menu. Xbox Live or PSN will pop up a prompt to buy the export license for $5/400pts. A small license file will download. Then it actually copies the songs from the disc. I know on the PS3 it actually took longer to copy the songs off the Bluray than it did to download the song import from Rock Band 2, but I have a fast internet connection and the Bluray drive is fairly slow.

Just did this the other night on PS3, and nothing popped up in-game, except a notice to buy the key from the store. I had to go to the store from the PS3 menu, go to disc-game add-ons, Rock Band 1, and then buy the export key from there. Then load the game up, and choose the export option, and it copied the files.

just for completeness on the Guitar Hero side the transfers are

GHWT- $3.50 (35 of 86 songs)
GH5- $6 (69 of 85 songs)
Band Hero- $5 (61 of 65 songs)
Smash Hits- $2 (21 of 48 songs)
Metallica- $6 (39 of 49 songs

But can't you only export to certain titles? I was thinking when I was looking at Band Hero info the other day you could only import songs into BH, GH5, and the new Warriors of Rock?

You are correct. Both older Rock Band and GH games have problems seeing newer stuff based on the date of the game's release.

I don't think the Track Packs, AC/DC, or Rock Band Greenday see any of the exported stuff but Green Day does see Green Day DLC. (I'm not sure about other DLC)

Rock Band 1 sees exported track packs, Lego and Green day as DLC, but doesn't seem to be able to see the Rock Band 2 exported stuff and can't see RB3 DLC.

Rock Band 2 sees everything Rock Band except the new RB3 DLC

Lego Rock Band appears to see everything rated appropriately except new RB3 DLC and the Rock Band 2 export.

Rock Band 3 sees everything Rock Band.

GH:WT, Smash Hits, and Metallica don't see any exported stuff.

Band Hero and Guitar Hero V see all the GH exports but I'm pretty sure they can't read new Warriors of Rock DLC (but I don't have any new DLC to try). I am pretty sure they also need to download a free compatibility pack to use any of the DLC purchased in GH:WT.

I think Warriors of Rock sees all Guitar Hero exports but I don't have it to actually check as it will be a budget purchase for me later.

EDIT: I had forgot about having to leave the game to buy the license to import Rock Band 1, that was a LONG time ago.

That's a shame. We (wife and I) are enjoying the Lego interface, but the scarcity of songs, even with RB1, and a couple of track packs, is hurting our play. I was wondering if the RB2 export would work, since I will get RB3 "someday" I was going to go ahead and do it if it worked for Lego... oh well.

Yes. I of course had to download Stan Bush's "The Touch" for Band Hero ;), but I had to get that compatibility pack as well. It was free, and it notified me I needed it in the in-game store, and downloaded from there. Got a few other free songs, some national anthems or something too.

Same here. The game/guitar bundle is listed in the KMart ad next week for $69.99. Apparently it's one of their Thurs deals, yes they are open Thanksgiving Day. Might try to pop in there, as I need a 2nd guitar anyway, and those run $30 for an old GH3 one up to $100 for the new RB3 ones, which I can't take advantage of anyway. I hear the new WoR one is pretty nice.

GameStop sells all used guitar instruments for $15, even the newer ones (just not of the Rock Band ones). Someone had bought one for the Oct 23rd event for RB and it was a GH5 one. Works great

That reminds me, I still have a drum stool up for grabs. Who was getting that?

I'm interested unless someone else really needs it.

If you are at K-mart any way, check the racks, most have the AC/DC track back clearanced for $5. For the other Track Packs, Family Dollar stores currently have racks of them for $5, but selection is spotty. If you want a particular one you can't find, there is a thread over at Cheapassgamer where people are trading them.

Trueheart is right about used guitars. If your Gamestop carries them, they are cheap. I know that I picked up one of mine cheap at Disc Replay. I would probably avoid used GH3 guitars though as both of them I tried I had to return because they dropped notes due to a connection issue in the neck. You also want to avoid the Nyko Frontman. It was actually a good guitar especially when you consider the junk Nyko usually makes. However, a Sony firmware update pretty much disabled it. You CAN get it to work with a lot of trial and error, but it is not worth the trouble.

Yep, I got TP2 from my FD, and bought a couple others from that thread.

SOUND CHECK

We're putting the finishing touches on an all-new RockBand.com just in time for the launch of Rock Band 3 on October 26.

There’s still time to pre-order or reserve a copy of the game Joystiq calls “The greatest rhythm game ever made...”

Keep in touch on Facebook and Twitter to find out when we're back with a new look and new features.

Just saw this when I tried to check where I am on the boards since last night. Looks like they're a little behind schedule.

I'm hoping that this is just a maintenance outage that is displaying an out of date "we're down" message and not some kind of gloomy fallout or impending change resulting from last week's revelation that the studio is being shopped around.

They had a twitter update about the site being down for a little while today.

AtomicVideoHead, I have my wired earphone for my cell now, so I can see if the game will allow harmony over Live next time we are both on.

Does anyone have a Lego Rock Band code they don't want/need?

Sorry about the confusion the other night -- I had trouble making you out once the bgm reached a certain level. T'was fun though. If anyone else wants to play with me an atras some time soon, feel free to friend us up so we can get a full band going.

So are there any pro mode guitars out yet?

Game is $39 at Amazon today.

Not sure if it's going to be any cheaper tomorrow.

All I can say is the Bee Gees pack is the single greatest download ever.

I've been on the fence about this one.

There's a handful of easy songs that I can beat on expert pro. I don't see how people break pedals either.

I was thinking the same. The pedal off my RB1 kit broke within a few weeks, but it was plastic - I'd be surprised to hear of someone who *hasn't* broken one of those. The pedal on my RB2 kit is still going strong, and I've been playing expert for well over a year. And I tend to get a bit stompy when the kick drum gets busy.

I'll go here since yours is the most recent, bur I too play heel up, and while I hadn't played much in RB1/RB2 on expert, I still have my two year old pedal from RB1 drums. I've since replaced those drums with the new kit, but the old pedal is still kicking, completely unphased.

The songs are pure fun, the vocal bits are hilarious falsetto, and I really dig the pro keyboard bits. Spent Thanksgiving morning singing "You Should Be Dancing" with the kids. Great, great fun.

Saw a story recently that the RB3 guitars have 5-pin MIDI ports. I really hope the guitars get here, it will be the cheapest guitar synth ever.

Anyone up for a band session? I keep sending invites to people that I think have the game, but don't, and I would love to get more multiplayer action going here. Pneuman was doing great on some Devil-caliber Pro Keys tonight, and I will happily do Pro Drums or Vocals... or just about any of the instruments, to be honest.

Friend me if you like, I am on a lot. Happytimeharry9

Yeah - I've got it too, Atras, and am generally up for multiplayer.

I have to say, I did finally get a group of four together for local play a couple nights back, and while the experience is definitely an improvement on Rock Band 2 (being able to jump right back in if someone fails is great) it's still somewhat lacking. It's fine if everyone is staying on a given instrument, but when people are moving around, juggling profiles and characters around is still a bit of a pain.

I have it and can do drums, guitar/bass or vocals. I haven't tried multiplayer yet, but would be willing to have a go at it with other Goodjers. No promises on the level of ability (I'm no expert).

Yeah, friend me up too. I haven't plugged the game in yet but I could certainly be persuaded to do so...usually okay for expert guitar and bass, always for expert vocals...drums maybe medium or hard.

Loving no fail on drums - I got a decent workout attempting medium last night. Some songs owned me (Elton John's Saturday Night), while I really surprised myself on others (Marilyn Manson's Beautiful People).

One day, I'll be able to play medium with the best of them... one day!

So over the holiday with the family we set up RB3 and went to town. After some good natured name calling and ball busting they got me to try the songs on Hard with the guitar. Damn it's so much fun and the bass lines on Hard are an absolute blast. Surprised us all that i was able to get 80% on a good handfull of songs. Still there's some songs that i still just can't do yet. I know with practice i could get to it, but seems like i have to re-teach my hands all over again. i'm also all over the place. Multiple play throughs on some songs will net me different results.

Still a lot of fun. Cant count the times that would be on the verge of failing out to just blasting through and after getting past a paticular hard passage and hitting 4X just to be amazed that your fingers just did that of their own accord. If i had to think about some of those spots i know i'd flub it for sure.

Oh hey, I have a drum throne for you, I just don't know how to get it to Cinci.
