DC: Universe - Catch All

Oh yeah... posted in the f2p thread, forgot this one was here. Need to know what server gwj is on.

EDIT: Looking back around page 8 or 9 it appears we are on New Frontier? Still a guild... er league... over there?

The league is still there, but I haven't seen anyone on for quite awhile. I only have one character still in it. I believe she can invite, so if anyone wants an invite to GWJ league, let me know.

Any big restrictions in characters/powers now that it's F2P?

Not really. There's a breakdown here of the differences: http://www.dcuniverseonline.com/free/.

Basically, if you're not paying, you're restricted on things like character slots, bank slots, and the amount of cash you can carry. You still have full access to powers and content (other than possibly the recent Green/Yellow Lantern expansion's power set and alert, which I believe you have to purchase).

And you get a pretty decent upgrade for spending $5. Doubles most of those limited slots. If it's fun might be worth whatever pack.

Signed up and tried to go on just an hour ago. No luck. Are the servers getting hammered, or are they incompetent?

6 of one...

It's SOE.

I got an invalid subscription error. I'll try again in a month.

Well, if anyone gets on, I have a Villain named Pallos. Couldn't make a hero yet.

I started a download on the PS3 (I gotta see what a mmo on PS3 is like) and after leaving it run for 14 hours, I had only gotten about 8 gigs of the 14.5 gigs it said was needed to complete. Granted, the PS3 is using the wireless connection, but that just seems super slow.

I know PS3 and PC people don't get to play together, so if I like what I see on the PS3, I'll probably jump over to the PC, even though my PC is a little long in the tooth at this point.

I got on just fine, but having a really frustrating error. I was watching the opening movie after choosing PvP, and about 10 seconds into the movie, I was booted back to the PvE or PvP option. I choose PvP again, get about 30 seconds into the movie, and get booted back to the same screen. Ok... I skip the movie, start playing with my character, and get booted back to the screen again. I close the game, start it up again, start playing with creating my character, and *bump* back to the screen again.

Guess I'll give it a try later tonight, if not in a few days then... no idea what could be causing that though..

I just keep getting "the server is down for maintenance" whenever I load it up. I just want to create my villain!

Massively.com is reporting that according to John Smedley, DCUO's gained 140,000 subscriptions since the F2P launch on Tuesday and the concurrent users have increased 400%.

Executive Producer Lorin James has posted on the official forums that the "overwhelming" response has caused the server issues and they're working on fixing the problems.

I've been playing for over 9 months now and the only other time I've seen these kinds of problems was during the hacking attacks. Even launch day was much smoother than this. I expect they'll get it sorted out, hopefully before I manifest withdrawal symptoms.

Thanks for the info. I was looking at their website and the server status appeared as "Up" so I was concerned it had something to do with my local setup. I expected a big slowdown for the opening salvo of Free to Players. I'll check again tomorrow.

Still haven't been able to even connect to the server for 36 hours or so, every time I randomly decide to try every few hours.

Game loads to the splash screen, past the SOE launcher part. But then it just says Connecting... and never does. After a few minutes I get a failed to connect message and it asks me to exit and restart. Which of course does the same thing...

Oh well...

Around 12AM PST yesterday I was able to get into the US PC server so I can confirm that things DO work when the servers aren't beaten to a pulp :P.

I finished the whole first mission/prologue thingy with my Dual-Wielding Pistol Demon Summoning Witch Girl then went to bed. I'm playing with a 360 controller and it's very satisfying.

The servers are down for a little while right now, but I played for an hour or two today. So far, definitely my favorite MMO I've played, for the sheer fact that combat is more interesting.

I'm thinking of purchasing the Fight for the Light DLC to get access to the Lantern stuff, as well as get the Premium account.

Finally got in and created a hero on PVE last night. Stele.

Someone invite me to the league please.

Haven't really read up on builds or skills or much of anything. Went with uh... magic (healing) and hand blast? weapons. I think? A little tired now. Figured those sounded like a different mix, with a little bit of ranged attacks.

Anybody play with a gamepad on PC? Figured the controls were set up for it based on PS3. Then again I could have just installed this on PS3. But I don't really need another 13+gb download this week.

I play with an Xbox controller on the PC. Seems to me like the game is definitely made for that.

I'll invite you to the league if I see you on (the game doesn't allow me to send an invite to someone who's offline).

Oh alright, I'll be on later this afternoon between football games I want to watch. Assuming I can login still.

I've played on the PS3 just through the opening mission/tutorial. Tonight I'll be going into the game proper however. So far, some things I like, some I don't, but for free and on the PS3, I'll probably drop some dollars just to say "do this right and I'll spend more!"

So PvP and PvE is on the same server? Can you change that setting at any time? I finally got into an arena PvP game. It was fun, but I had to use the Robin character, which I had no idea how to play. No deaths, but no kills either.

Also I could use an invite. I've made 2 characters, Blackened Night and Cloney McStudent.

Yes, the PVP and PVE phases are on the same server. You can switch between them using a kiosk in the Watchtower or Hall of Doom. The difference is that the PVP phase has open-world PVP (with no restrictions, so you can get ganked by people 30 levels above you) and the PVE phase does not. The PVE phase still lets you queue up for PVP instances (like the Legendary battles).

downloaded today so i could check it out with you guys BUT it can't contact login server.

I had the same speed problem. I think I've probably always had a wireless speed problem on my PS3 (wireless laptops sharing same connection in my house get a way faster connection).
The good news is that having to download 14Gb in one shot gave me the motivation I needed to solve it this time! I had to tweak router settings. Msg me if you want details.

Got it finally, created Kirwin for the good guys. I enjoy running and climbing around. The Gothem Sewers almost killed me though. My best power, the "electric grapple" didn't work. Whenever I used it, my character would freeze up and the baddies would pummel me. So far, an ok game and I'd like to see the story part of it at least.

I couldn't get one of my powers to work either. It was some blast that said Hold range attack + hold range attack. But every time I would hold it would use the earlier attack I had that would charge up and release that when I released. Never could figure out what the heck I was supposed to do.

Makes me think I should have taken the range+melee combo attack instead. At least I could probably get that one to trigger.

You need to complete the first move (the blocker breaker) and then hold ranged attack a second time to do the second move.

So if you're talking about Hand Blaster, hold the ranged attack to do Charged Attack and when it's done hold the ranged attack a second time to do Meteor Blast.

Hopefully, that makes sense.

Executive Producor Lorin Jameson posted again about the server queues this weekend:

The response to our Free to Play launch has been truly incredible. Since Tuesday we have increased the number of concurrent players by 1000%. We were definitely planning for a great response to the changes in the game, but these numbers have exceeded our already high expectations. We apologize for the current queues and we are working on additional equipment and optimizations to alleviate the issues. The DC Universe Online team has been working day and night to work through these challenges and will continue to make sure we create the best experience for our players. We very much appreciate your patience as we work to make these improvements.

Not really. When I let go of the first charge it fires off that attack. And when I press it again it starts charging that again.

I think a couple times it has seemed to do something different, like a flip in the air. But I can't figure out what I did differently. And there's been so much lag in the city fighting areas with other players around, that could be contributing to my problem stringing two charges together?
