DC: Universe - Catch All

Pages

I know i posted about this before, but there was very little info and of course Champions was released and stole some of the wind from this MMO sails.

Well they just announced that they're releasing (plan to anyway) in a very traditional month for mmo releases. November.

I'm curious to see what these guys bring to the table.

Me too.

I am skeptical in that 99% of everything they show is in game models of DC heroes and villians. We know so little about gameplay at this point other than basics like a few traveling powers and having big name DC characters as quest givers.

Can you play Green Lantern?

DAMN! Beat me to it. Anyways, everyone knows Reap's favorite hero has always been Aquaman.

I think they will probably be decimated by the release of WoW: Cataclysm. I believe that's when Blizzard is releasing the expansion? Unless I heard wrong.

I heard the same, and they probably will.

Yeah, I don't even like WoW and I'm probably going to be picking up Cataclysm.

Oh yeah, me too. I haven't played WoW in like an year and I do plan on starting fresh to see the new content.

Other than the DC license, how will this differ from Champions Online? I'm a subscripber to CO, but not exactly in love with the game. If DC's better, I'd be happy to jump ship.

I do love DC comics, so I have my fingers crossed in hope!

Have to say it looks good!

I'm actually getting excited because over the course of the next 2 years SOE has a chance to win back a lot ill will they collected.

Please just take some time and make sure whatever your game does, it does well... please?!

Looks just like the last 2 superhero games. PLUS nothing will beat having super jump in CoH...

That's what's bothering me. I can still go back and play CoX and be perfectly happy. Having played both I would even say I prefer it over Champions. I'm beginning to wonder if that game just got everything right on the first try or if no one else has simply bothered to innovate.

The experience of combat in DCUO is nothing like City of Heroes. That I can say with certainty and without irony. Closer analogies would be Bayonetta or Darksiders.

To get a good sense of what the game plays like, check out these videos linked from the DCUO Source site.

Those videos look great. I don't think it will be a problem if they release in a similar time frame as SWTOR. The combat in this looks much better.

I hope EQ Next either goes this route or at least borrows heavily from DCUO.

I'm excited. Its a superhero mmo I'll want to play longer than a month!

Preorder info up. I still dont see a date listed though.

Preorder for Gamestop/Amazon says 11/2/2010.

Not sure if that's a guess from all of them or an actual confirmed date.

Beta sign-ups are also active now for both PS3 and PC.

If you've been interested in the game, you may want to be sure to check out GameTrailers on Saturday.

November 2nd is the confirmed release date. Many of the developers have confirmed this, plus Jim Lee has stated it several times the past few weeks.

Also in the past few days, they totally shocked me by announcing some good quality Voice actors for the game.. I kinda thought they might phone that in.
They got Kevin Conroy to return for Batman.. Mark Hamil as the Joker. A few others were announced and listed to.

Awesome trailer, but still worried about the game falling short like Champions.

Or that it will deliver on its goals only marginally better than Champions.

I think it has a better chance to succeed based on the IP alone. Also, SoE is a pretty well known MMO developer so I think they have a leg up when it comes to knowing what the fans want out of an MMO. I'm being pretty optimistic when it comes to this game being a fan of comic heroes, but I think they have a realistic chance to build on niche that DC has carved out for itself. I suppose we'll have to wait for the gameplay reviews to come in, but since the application for the beta has been posted, we'll probably see some feedback pretty soon.

Oh yeah, the trailer was awesome! sounds almost like the Crisis on Two Earths video that came out recently story wise. I could see the potential for expansions based on major story arcs in the DC universe if the game catches on.

While SOE is well known as mmo devs their track record up to date hasnt been that grand. Granted they've revamped and started doing better, but this and The Agency are going to be the first AAA MMOs released by them in years. While i'm hopeful there's also the stink of the past. Them laying off people doesnt help with impressions either. I'm pulling for them to prove us all wrong but i'm cautious to get my hopes too high for something stellar.

That trailer was really good.
