Red Dead Redemption Catch-all

I just bought the Undead Nightmare combo pack. However, I restarted my RDR game after finishing it last time, does this use the same character and is a separate campaign or how is it integrated?

It's a separate adventure much like Lost & Damned, Gay Tony for GTA IV.

After your RDR game loads, go to the front menu and you'll see Lost Nightmare as a separate menu selection from RDR.

It will start a new game/save file with its own set of Achievements, stats, etc. It won't interfere or cross over to your original RDR profile.

Good to know - thanks!

Zombie horses = Awesome.

Too bad I blew mine up in a TNT... incident.

Awesome, but he pisses me off. He kept trying to steer me off cliffs.

Had a close encounter with War, though! Unfortunately by the time I found a way up the cliffs to him, he vanished.

I snagged him! Pretty sweet ride. Feel like Ghost Rider.

EDIT:

And lost him! f*cking ran him over a cliff five minutes after acquiring the thing. Dammit!

So far I've captured War, Famine, and Pestilence, in that order. War is by far the coolest. He has high stamina and sets zombies on fire. Pestilence has infinite stamina and cannot die it seems. Famine, however, has infinite stamina and...? nothing else. bummer!

Just need Death to complete the set.

also, Blunderbust! :D:D

So what happens if they die? Do I have to go and capture them all over again?

So annoyed.

The RDR wiki mentions something about getting blood pacts with them after completion, but it's very vague.

Just completed the main story after just around 9 hours. Super satisfied and will be going back to finish up challenges and get other collectibles.

I can tell you that you are given the Death Horse directly at the end of the story and you'll have a "blood pact" aka the deed for it. You may be able to get them for the other 3 horses but I can't say for sure yet.

But wow! $10 for 9 hours of entertainment? Value returned. Thank you Rockstar.

Giant Bomb Quick Look

It's about 15 minutes but I stopped watching after 5 or so.

I've got my copy downloaded and ready to go. Now I just need to hold out 'till nightfall Sat. so I can really soak in the holiday atmosphere.

I just queued this up. It looks so fun. I'm going to wait for the nighttime for some zombie hunting as well.

I guess I'm splurging on this too. So much money given to Xbox Live lately.

Dammit, I'm in. Filthy enablers, the lot of you.

@Sommermatt

I managed to capture War last night. After 3 hours of play, 8 hours of sleep, and a couple of hours reflection... I have come to the conclusion that riding round on a flaming horse - seting fire to zombies - will never, EVER get old!

To those in any doubt, this addition to RDR is simply a must buy! If only all DLC could be like this...

EDIT:

And here's hoping that this puts the rest of the industry on notice when it comes to value-for-money DLC. Rockstar charges £7.99 for an entire new game... not a couple of maps, not a few new weapons. AN ENTIRE NEW GAME! This is new the benchmark!

Does Undead Nightmare require RDR? I see it is also being sold as disk but I'm not sure if it still requires the original game.

Yes, the digital download requires the RDR disc to play.

The standalone disc version doesn't.

It's a benchmark for developers sitting on brands that are guaranteed to print money with whatever they put out: Valve, Rock*, maybe a few others. Everyone else is still wetting the bed at night.

I started Undead Nightmare today and logged 7 hours in one sitting (with a couple short breaks), and my progress stat is only 39%. So it's looking like this DLC will be a full 15 hours of new content.

To reiterate what someone already said, at only $10, UN is a must buy for any RDR fan.

This is a phenomenal bit of DLC. I'm actually finding the atmosphere quite unsettling at times - the population of the original game was sparse, but absolutely nothing compared to the bleakness of windswept, burning homesteads with a few zombies staggering around that I keep coming across. It feels like the end of the world for sure. And frankly, riding into the sunset in a duster on one of the horses of the Apocalypse is a peak gaming experience.

Now, I'd pay good money for GTA IV: Undead in Algonquin. All of this creepiness plus helicopters and mafiosos? Yes please.

Wowzers!

They just did a commercial for Undead Nightmare at the coveted 2 minute to half-time break (Vikings vs Patriots).

Good freakin' deal.

They had one during the Walking Dead. Good ad buy there.

So basically RDR has a zombie-horde mode now? Man, we need to schedule something for this

I haven't managed to get back to the single player yet, but I did play some multi this weekend. Undead overrun is really fun, provided you actually get a group that will work together. Some players will climb up onto a building and just sit there the entire match, taking pot shots at whatever zombie happens to be close enough. I don't think they understand you're supposed to be going after the coffins for ammo and added time on the clock. I did get into one group that went very well. We made it all the way to wave 11, and let me tell you it got pretty crazy. I was hoping to get another game in last night, but couldn't find any other players.

Picked this up Friday, blinked, and it was time for Walking Dead on Sunday night. Played the hell out of Multiplayer - something I had yet to do with RDR - and had a blast. Leveled all the way up to 12 or 13. Wandered around in single player quite a bit, freeing towns and doing side quests. Sasquatch quest is the saddest thing ever! Zombies are a good balance - if you get too overconfident they will mob you and tear you apart. Several times I was sitting still picking off a small group and suddenly another horde I didn't even know was there shambles over the hill behind me and gets a few whacks in or mobs me.

I would totally be down for some GWJ Zombie horde action.

So I completed Undead Nightmare in around 9 and a half hours, with about 70% completion. I freed every town I had on my map, completed all of the mission icons I saw, unlocked 3 of the 5 'mythical beasts' and did a few of the 'Missing' side missions and the like. All in all, a complete bargain for my £8.50.

Now, to the ending:

Spoiler:

What did you think? I initially found it absolutely hilarious to be a 'conscious zombie' and, I think as a reward for completing the game, getting the Death horse was pretty sweet. However, I found the final Aztec/Inca tomb crawl a trifle dull (did it in one go without breaking a sweat just by patrolling slowly forward and shotgunning every attacking zombie). It seemed odd to end the game on what was essentially a corridor shooter section, especially when the real surprises in the rest of the game happened when a zombie I hadn't seen sneaked up on me from an unanticipated direction.

I'm not sure I will go back to take advantage of the post-game Zombie free-roam, except maybe to unlock the last couple of horses. I googled around a little, but couldn't see anywhere if it was possible to actually find and deal with Seth and return the mask (again) to the temple. Is the message that the zombie plague is now permanent? Is there a second 'ending' like the main game?

Still, overall a great bit of DLC, and I did get a kick out of the zombie roars substituted for speech. The character model is great too, with the lean to the left and the outstretched hands. It's also really handy that the zombie's detection range for a charge response is massively lowered by your appearance - I can wander into the middle of a crowd of zombies and blow most of them away before they start to charge me.

Dear God, I hope they release this soundtrack. If you haven't done a Missing Person Bounty in El Presidio, do it now. A bit of wailing brass/theremin, a hard beat, and a bit of the metal chain clanks that are super manipulative but super effective. And the psycho-billy tune leading up to what may be the end--great stuff.

QFT.

After I completed the Mother Superior mission(s) and was told to head out to Escalera, I was just going to fast travel from Chuparosa. But then this music started playing....and I just had to call my war horse and bolt across the mexican desert to the awesome beats. Worth it.

I think you just nominated yourself to set up a Zombie Overrun GWJ game night. Put me down as the first person to sign up when you do.

If a game night crops up that will get me to buy this DLC sooner rather than later.
