I, again, am so excited!

Preview keys for DW2 are going out! The amazing Das is streaming it right now!

https://www.twitch.tv/dastactic

I'll stream it next week as I should hopefully be fully back on my feet by then.

Awww... I didn't get one. :sad flailing tentacles:

If you want the perks, you gotta put in the works.

Guess I know what I'm watching today.

Man, I am really interested in this but it will take me days to watch a 3 hour+ stream!

Nice of you to jump into the stream chat to give your opinion of Stellaris...

I'll never miss an opportunity to call Stellaris a pile of sh*t.

Squeeeeeeee

So I did (of course) end up watching the entire 3 hour+ stream last night.

The amount of actual gameplay during that stream was not a high percentage - it was more of an exploration.

It seems to me that DW2 is fundamentally the same game DWU, and that makes me happy. All the good bits that I remember still seem to be present. It looks like there are improvements in the important areas (UI and performance), and surprisingly more depth in some places. I am quite sure that opinion will evolve as I see more gameplay.

I am curious to see more about how nebulae on the map affect things. Das stated multiple times that they really created the geography of the galaxy.

Das posted a few preview videos to youtube today. I haven't watched them yet, though. Of course if you follow this thread you're probably already subscribed to his channel.

I was of the same opinion while watching. Stopped halfway bit but it looked good to me. Did make me really want to reinstall the first one though.

So far still excited for it.

Larry Monte is streaming right now.

I did get a little bit of that feeling, too.

Funny thing is that at one point Das basically said he couldn't go back to DWU after playing the preview of DW2.

Edit: I think I'll wait the 41 days until March 10, though. Larry's stream said pre-orders start on Feb 18.

The Das streams give a great overview of the game and are entertaining to watch.

The Larry streams on the other hand will teach you about every single system in the game eventually given that he usually turns off almost all the automation.

I'm really glad that Larry came back to stream DW2 since between him & Das they really helped me understand DW more than I would ever have been able to figure out on my own. It's possible that I spent more time watching them play than actually playing, but maybe that's because I got into DW relatively late.

Larry's already streamed 22 hours or so just in the past 5 days (daily sessions of 4+ hours). No way I'm even gonna try to keep up with that!

I loved Larry's DW1 content, he really taught me how to play the game in a way that I enjoyed. Das was good for general play but Larry's "no automation" method inspired me to dig in, figure it out and use automation to get rid of the stuff I found boring or tedious instead of having a lot automated out of the box.

I've watched a little of both their DW2 videos, it looks like their approaches are similar as in DW1. I am limiting what I watch though so I don't get too impatient waiting for March 10

Larry really inspired me to dig into DW1 too. I have to say I prefer his recorded content though. I feel he's a bit distracted by trying to entertain chat while he's playing.

I agree, although I find that's true with almost anyone and is why I rarely watch livestreams.

So I’ve got 6 hours under my belt with Distant Worlds 2 and I absolutely love it. They kept everything about the first game that was awesome and improved the rest. Fantastic gameplay, excellent UI. In 6 hours I only explored 15 out of 700 systems, so there will be a LOT to do. Can’t wait for the final version.

So, pretty much a Stellaris clone, eh?

I WILL MURDER YOU AND EVERYTHING YOU LOVE.

Er...

I mean.....

....no.....

Don’t insult us. Stellaris is a bastard child, not a positive example.

Just messing with y'all.

I also did that. Thanks for the link.

Coincidentally, I had an 8th anniversary Slitherine/Matrix coupon waiting for me, which gave me a somewhat obscene discount.

The pre-order email only talks about downloads; no mention of keys. I do have my Steam account linked with Slitherine, though.

Edit: Just checked "My Page" on the Slitherine store: there is a button that says "STEAM KEY: GET YOUR KEY!". I can probably get my key there.

Even Distant Worlds : Universe, the base game, is less than 4 canadian dollar ! I imagine it is less in USD !

Speaking of the first game : I read that the UI is not well designed, as it is somewhat small. Is there options to change that nowaday ?

Erik Rutins confirmed in the forums that a Steam key is included in purchases from their site.

Tried preordering on their site with my anniversary coupon. Sadly just getting an error message with no information. Sent them an email cause why not.

Am excited to play this. I tried playing the original back and had a rough time due to the UI. I love the original but with my new PC the small font and stuff is killer. The new version looks way better in that respect while keeping what I love.

Distance worlds is probable my favorite 4x game. With Star Ruler 2 sitting at the same table being weird in every way.

I just got an email:

Good news, the product you have pre-ordered is available for download.

It's now listed as coming tomorrow on Steam?

Edit - And that was as of about 0830, now it is downloadable. Whew!
