Just found this thread and I thought I'd add a few of the bands I listen to from around my neck of the woods...

Hope you enjoy!

Indeed! Thanks for the recommendations. I had not heard of any of them, and now I've added Sight of Emptiness, Pneuma and Advent of Bedlam to my Spotify.

I would've added Adrenal too, but there wasn't any, so I bought the mp3 album from Amazon.

Looks like Opeth's new album Heritage has leaked. Don't forget it officially comes out on the 20th, I'm stoked.

I'm a little late here, but so was necroyeti: Amon Amarth was fantastic. I was surprised that I enjoyed their second set (songs pre-Surtur) to their first set (all of Surtur Rising). I suppose that makes sense now that I think about it, though.

One nice surprise was that they played "Valhall Awaits Me", which setlist.fm had caused me not to expect. My first favorite Amon Amarth song.

You know a concert is good when you leave a bigger fan than you arrived, and when you spend the next few days listening to the band's music. I will definitely try to catch them on their next tour.

Awesome! Glad you went and enjoyed it.

Just heard it, myself... interesting stuff. Very much an exercise in 70's prog of the acid veneer, mostly. Somewhat reminiscent of King Crimson. Worth a buy, for sure!

Just found about these guys - Fleshgod Apocalypse. They're a super fast, technical death metal band from Italy.

Double posting because I was just looking for a good headbanging emoticon and found this great one I had not seen before:

That headband is so totally early 90's!

So, Heritage is out. I owns it. I listened to it. I don't know what I think. My first impression is that there are some cool moments on the album, but that's all I took from it: moments. The songs seems to go nowhere and encapsulate ideas, but not songs, if that makes sense.

Man, Black Cobra is great.

Opeth is playing Houston at the beginning of October. I was extremely pumped to see them until Heritage; now I'm not sure. I'll still see them, but I hope they play a bunch of death metal. I'm a little afraid that their current, Heritage state of mind will dictate their setlist as well.

Just got 2 tickets to Mastodon/Dillinger Escape Plan in Toronto in November. 2 of my favorite bands.. can't wait!

Ooo, where?

EDIT: Ah right, found it. Friday night! Very interesting.....

DOUBLE EDIT: No dice. Korpiklaani concert the night before, and since they are one of my absolute favorites, I'll definitely be there.

Friday night shows are so much better for me, especially since I have a 2.5 hour drive to get there.

You are not wrong about that, especially with that drive. I just can't justify it to my ears/liver/brain to do two loud-ass concerts two mights in a row. =)

Oh man. That should be one hell of a show.

Face melting is the proper term, I believe.

It's a reasonably small venue.. so yes plugs will be in order.

I've been wanting to see DEP for so long now, I understand their live show is not to be F#$*& with.

Opeth's Heritage: :/

Obviously the idea was to do a Swedish-style prog-rock album and not a metal one, but even on those terms: too much Anekdoten, too little Änglagård.

Quasi-post-rock meanderings?

I've listened to the album a few times now and I still find myself appreciating moments, but not songs. So, while my opinion is actually a bit more favorable than upon first listen, I still don't like it as an album.

I'm looking at setlist.fm and having a hard time getting pumped for an Opeth show that's gonna be half songs from Heritage. I guess this is how folks felt about the shows where they played Damnation in its entirety.

Mastodon had posted a video on Youtube of The Hunter in its entirety, and I take back my accusations of mediocrity earlier in the thread. It is an excellent album, and although Mastodon's official account has taken down the video it's scattered on Youtube by other users for anybody who wants a preview. I like the song "All The Heavy Lifting," and I think it's a fantastic name for a song.

But inversely, I think "Stargasm" is not at all a good name for a song (the song itself is great though).

Going old-school, the new Anthrax is really good. I always loved their first one with Bush (Sound of White Noise), but never fully got into the Bellodonna stuff. I think it was the way he sang back then that didn't always mesh with my ears.

Anyways, Worship Music is the best with Bellodonna, at least IMO. Good number of classic Anthrax thrash stuff along with some more classic style metal.

It took me a minute or so to realize that the cover tune they did (New Noise) was a song from the Backbreaker video game

I love Bellodonna, especially live.

And yeah.. nothing wrong with some old school Thrash.. great new album.

I need to check that out, because Anthrax is coming at the end of October. I saw them on the Sound of White Noise tour, waaaaaay back in the day. I've been a fan ever since, but damn, they can never seem to get out of their own way with personnel issues, etc.

I saw them in the summer and they were great.

Anthrax covered the Refused? This I need to hear.

Edit: Not a fan of the vocals, but we've covered that topic before.

That sound you heard was my face melting off @ 1:14.

Just heard their cover of Thin Lizzy's Cowboy Song yesterday. Damn good version.

Machine Head's Unto The Locust should be out. I should get on it ha-say-hey-pee.

I'm liking Mastodon's latest more than Skye. I was one of the few who didn't go gaga over Skye, I merely liked it.
