Ah, alright. I just went for the one with Megalodon which is the vid Garion linked. I will check out Crack the Skye.

And I picked that song specifically because it wasn't as catchy as their newer stuff ... and has that guitar breakdown right before the heavy riffing. I love that. I figured if you liked that then you'd certainly love the rest of their stuff.

Yeah, it is a great song, the rest if the album just sort of blurs together though. No worries, there are always risks when it comes to taking recommendations. I'm not bitter. :p

I do not like Mastodon at all; I think they are muddy, and not at all thrashy. See my post if you want thrashy.

And I'll just mention Trivium one more time, because they really are the modern standard-bearers for Thrash, imho.

EDIT: Do I sound dickish in this thread? Not trying to!

Don't think you're sounding dickish, music is subjective and disagreement is part of the fun. Mastodon is a little thrashy, but more sludgy.

Will check out Trivium next, Shogun, right?

Shogun. Money-back guarantee for thrash fans.

You probably picked the weakest Mastodon Album.
Blood Mountain and Crack the Skye are revelations in awesome, especially Skye.

I know people who would argue otherwise. I myself prefer Blood Mountain. Bladecatcher is probably my favorite song of theirs (god, I can't find another studio version of the song on youtube).

Irrational love of southern rock. It puts Crack the Skye way over the top for me.

I gather with Meshuggah they reinvent themselves with every album, which should I look at first? I really like albums, rather than tracks. It's cool to see how a band's concept for their work unfolds in the course of an extended listen.

Their older material is more thrash-influenced, if that's important to you. Destroy Erase Improve might be a good starting point--it's a definite break from tradition, but you can still hear some of the thrash lineage.

FWIW, my favorite Meshuggah albums are Chaosphere, ObZen and Nothing, in that order.

Also, I'm sure I've already said it, but it bears repeating: do yourself a favor and check out Strapping Young Lad - City. Devin Townsend is one of the most brilliant talents in modern metal, and City is Devy at his most raw, honest and intense.

ObZen for me.

Trivium - Shogun. Why more people aren't influenced by James Hetfield's perfect metal singing, I'll never know. Here's the guy who rightly is.

O.O

You were not kidding! It's like listening to a modern Kill 'Em All.

Your money is safe.

The thrash thing just intended as an indicator, I prefer pedal tones and riffs to incessant detuned powerchords. I respect your taste so I will check out Chaosphere first, Destroy Erase Improve also sounds like a must-listen.

Will definitely check it out.

Let's see if I can make this work.

Trivium

BRIAN POSEHN - "Metal By Numbers"

Cookie, Cookie, Cookie!

Yeah, I recommended Prototype back in the old metal thread from four years ago.

They are definitely worth a listen. If you weren't aware, the Prototype guys have revived their old band Psychosis with Bruce Hall, formerly of Agent Steel. It's straight up old school Bay Area style thrash. It's pretty awesome.

I just quoted someone's post who had to see how he'd done it.

Reign in Blood, by Slayer?

When I was in high school, my friends and I would wake up early every Friday to go to Denny's before school. I would always wake up to Would? by Alice in Chains.

Heads of Metal, I give you Prototype. I heard they are in Rock Band or Guitar Hero, so this may not be the reveal I think it should be.

Live a Lie

Trinity

Trinity was my alarm clock in about 2002 or so. I had to get my ass up before the intro finished and woke up the whole complex. Boy this takes me back.

Too easy! Thanks for the 'just quote someone else' tip. I was looking at source, and it made my head sore.

I shall listen. But I like Vince's voice a lot. Can't listen now, got Gregg Rolie on the Hammond B3 and Mr. Neal Schon on the Stratocaster. Relaxing.

Sorry its Raining. I was referring to the track not the album.

Raining Blood

I put Raining Blood as my alarm through my computer speakers this morning.
I was headbanging on my bed as my roommate walked in and declared me crazy as the intro ended.

Just watched this:

And thought of this thread. Acrassicauda has a documentary about them (can stream on Netflix) because they're the first metal band from Iraq.

Those are some fearsome riffs! I hear the documentary is great too.

That's brilliant. Right down my alley too. A weird mix of Iron Maiden, Pantera and Metallica.

The audio is out of sync, but this is cool too:

Edit: Their 4 song EP is only $1.28 to download at Amie St.

The documentary is great.
The concert in Syria was especially moving.

Region denied. Damn commies.

Just watched the documentary. Very powerful stuff. Buying the EP now.

This thread delivers.

Thanks to Garion for gifting the EP to me. Very good work, Garden of Stone is the best track, IMO, but they show a lot of potential and are definitely an act to watch.

I am going to see ENTOMBED in Toronto tomorrow night.

First time in twelve years I've been able to see them.

Psyched \m/

Wonder if they'll bring the ballet dancers?

I've had the EP songs cranked up all day today. There's a $3 minimum Paypal purchase at Amie Street, so I have $1.68 credit after buying the EP. If anyone else wants it but is region-denied, PM me and I'll re-buy it and send you the ZIP file.

Tonight!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
