\m/(~_~)\m/ Bring the Metal! \m/(~_~)\m/

The first cassette I remember buying for myself:

was my first. I thought my mom was going to have a conniption but she was pretty cool about it.

I bought The Beatles’ Abbey Road when I was 8yo with money I’d gotten for my birthday. I’d asked for Beatles’ Abbey Road as a birthday gift and was scoffed at by my family who are all hippies. They thought I was too young for that. f*cking hypocrites! Huh! Boomers!

Seven Kingdoms seemingly still incapable of writing about anything other than Game of Thrones.

Def a net negative for me these days.

Has anyone edited Tool's Fear Inoculum into a 40 minute masterpiece instead of the overly noodling 70 hour borefest?

Also, WHY HAS THERE BEEN NO GREAT MUSIC FOR THE PAST THREE MONTHS??!?!?!?!?!

Well, I was holding this back since I didn't think it would be appreciated here, but since you're gonna talk like that...

Italian death metal!

EDIT: It tickles me that I've seen two of the bands whose shirts they are wearing - Blood Incantation and Power Trip.

Got some 90s death vibe going on there. And the vocals perfectly synced to the rhythm section worked really well.

Made me think of the band from Metalocalypse.

Here you go!

Or in the very unlikely event you might want some old school black metal, here's a one-man band made up of a First Nations member out of Boston. It's amazing. I even hear some Weakling in this. Whole album stream since I can't seem to find just one song:

This is kind of silly, but I was pretty sure that I was going to like this band based on the artwork. I guess metal bands have gotten good at conveying their sound through what kind of art they pick and even what artist they choose.

THEN I looked them up on Metallum and the top two "similar artists" were Tomb Mold and Demilich! Get in my ears!

Listened to the whole Perilaxe Occlusion EP today driving to and from disc golf and MAN, it slaps. Totally in my wheelhouse. Thanks, d4m0!

No problem! They're absolutely amazing, and made even better by their whole deal with doing songs about computer graphics and GPUs. You can't tell what the lyrics are at all from listening to the songs of course, but I picked up the CD and the booklet it comes with has all the words. I do graphics work in my job and it's pretty great to see a band this great at death metal sing about polygons, rendering, and ray tracing.

Damn, d4m0, Perliaxe Occlusion's first EP is awesome as well! There is one song that's a bit slow and meandering, but still, these guys do awesome stuff!

I assume you're already a fan of Blood Incantation and Demilich, right? Possibly even Timeghoul? All long, weird death metal songwriters.

I'm a huge fan of Blood Incantation and I know I've heard Demilich before, but I've never heard of Timeghoul. I will check them out today!

Have you ever checked out Ulcerate?

Qrixkuor, a band I only found out about yesterday, put out a new album that is just two 24-minute death metal journeys. It's amazing.

Also here's a band I think you might enjoy

I’m so confused. I would never have thought that a metal song can “slap”. I’m gen X. This “slap” business seems to be a new thing with the younger generations. Please explain.

I don't know either, I'm probably older than you!

Legion, you are a mere child compared to a decrepit, post-middle aged geezer such as myself!

The new Lingua Ignota album is out so this is no longer an issue.

Nevermind, you've got one foot in the grave. Bon voyage!

Oh, and Happy Birthday!

How did I not know this?! Spotify has really fallen on their "here's the new music for the week" messages. I used to get an email every week on Friday, but no more for some reason. I do follow Lingua Ignota too. I know what I'll be listening to later.

NC's own Between the Buried and Me releases Colors II on Friday, in the event there's anyone here aside from me still into progressive metalcore.

I like it. I’ll listen to the album later.

A CO Springs-based underground metal label? Huh.

I also enjoyed that embed, but only about half of it. There was some flat parts, but some other slapping parts I really enjoyed.

I'm still waiting on something new to blow me away.

And, no, Lingua Ignota won't do it, much as I respect what she's doing. Let me know when they go on tour again.

Welp, you knew I was gonna fanboy over this like I do everything else ETID does, but new single (Post-Boredom) and album (Radical!) announced for 10/22/21. The single itself is a bit of a different vibe with its David Byrne-esque cleans/melody, but the riffs still power it, and most importantly Will Putney was behind the boards again for that incredible crushing drums-meet-guitars sound. Per Keith on Twitch, admitting that every band calls their new album their best one that it's easily their best album, "the band in their full stride," Can't wait.

Check out the other pre-released singles from earlier as well, they rip.

I've never really been able to get into ETID but every track they've released from the new album is terrific. So stoked to hear the whole thing.

I got into them in college after a buddy twisted my arm into going to see an upstart Killswitch Engage in Winston-Salem in 2001, where an equally-unknown ETID opened for them (here's the actual show).

I was into a few Botch, Cave In, etc. albums at the time but I immediately dug ETID's southern rock riffage-flavored approach, and while they were balls-to-the-wall they were yet somehow poetically irreverent/sardonic (which makes sense, turns out Keith was an English teacher), which fit me like a glove.

I've enjoyed watching them get better and better each album they've released since, which few bands can claim with a straight face.
