Now I'm no expert but that sure was a metal ass, metal video to me.

It was badass.

I was also endlessly entertained by the fact that Scott Kelly wore an old worn Bill Romanowski Raiders jersey on stage. Same one as in this video from last month

Did you wear your Jamarcus jersey?

Devin rules. That's the first time I've heard anyone discuss timing like that, but I think he's right on--In my own stuff, I've found that heavy stuff does not really settle into a satisfyingly heavy groove until the timing lines up more or less the way he suggests, especially the relationship between bass and drums.

If I had known, I would have.

You DO know that you can't have a proper metal or rock band without a cello right? RIGHT?

You're welcome.

Yeah, man. The angle of the pick makes a HUGE difference (to me) in the feel and the heaviness of the riffs being played. I've mostly backed off on the heavy playing since I dont really have much anger in me anymore, but I definitely used the slideways attack when the mood so appeals to me.

Damn that chorus is catchy.

Sometimes I can't tell if a power metal band is a satire/parody or is completely serious.

Latest example, Gloryhammer.

More specifically, the fact that they have a song called "The Unicorn Invasion of Dundee".

It's the guy from Alestorm, excellently summed up with this quote I swiped from another forum.

"I love playing in Alestorm but sometimes I feel like its not ridiculous enough. I don't think people know what a huge D&D nerd I am too, so I wanted something that showed that side of my awful personality."

That is HILARIOUS.

Speaking of metally things, a friend of mine whose metal listening is probably limited to Metallica and Anthrax discovered Volbeat yesterday. I've been meaning to explore them more myself. Best album, anyone?

Oddly enough they popped up on my Amazon recommendations. I gave some samples a listen, but just stuck them in my wishlist for later. They don't seem too bad.

Still Counting is my favorite Volbeat song. It's definitely NSFW but a great tune. I don't think you can go wrong with them. Older stuff I seem to prefer a bit more but all of it is great. Whenever they come around my wife insists that we go see them

Volbeat are awesome! I tend to favour The Strength / The Sound / The Songs (their first) and Guitar Gangsters & Cadillac Blood (their third).

Rock on!

WOW. They are like a female Japanese Dragonforce, although obviously not as insanely fast.

Some better guitar maker should be sending them free axes!

So this is probably one of the most bad ass things I've seen all day.

It seems they have some heavy stuff, but if you just want to purchase MP3s then you have two songs to choose from via iTunes. Amazon has physical CD's for roughly $30.

Apparently, buying Japanese music in the States is a bitch.

EDIT:

These ladies don't show up on Amazon MP3 either, but they are pretty bad ass as well.

DOUBLE EDIT:

I've sunken into a deep rabbit hole of all-female metal bands, and I'm in love with all of them.

That's certainly some interesting music, though I'm more inclined to watch than listen. The Japanese bands seem too manufactured or something.

I've been seriously obsessed with the DTP lately. For a while I wasn't too into his softer stuff but I think everything he's put out the past couple of years is vibing with me the right way.

I just realized that an album named Saturday Morning Apocalypse exists. Even better, it's on Spotify.

Here is a sample.

The Other Powerglove

Yeah, when I first heard about a band named Powerglove doing the Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon music, I was excited. Then I was confused. Then I realized two bands have the same name.

That Powerglove is pretty fantastic live. They have styrofoam armor and stuff made out of Koopa shells. Pretty fantastic. Plus, they managed to get the vocalist to Sonata Arctica to sing their heavy metal rendition of the Pokemon theme.

And it is wonderful.

Don't know if I have posted this group before (I'm not digging through all the pages to find out) , but you mentioned females in metal, though she is the lead singer and the rest of the band is a sausage fest. Cool fun fact, they are from TN.

Unfortunately, Cartoonin, I'm not much a fan of the growly screamy with very few exceptions.

Does remind me of another discovery, Unleash the Archers. Also a sausage fest sans the lead vocalist, and the lyrics can be pretty damn bad. The growling and screaming may be in tolerable amounts. I have to listen to more.

Devin! Yeah, I don't think he has released an album yet that I am not a huge fan of. He hasn't been anywhere close to me on a tour but he's one if the few artists I reaaally want to see live. Definitely my favorite musician by far right now.

I have also been on a Avenged Sevenfold kick lately. There are a few tracks on their earlier albums that have bit of a Devin feel to them, like A little bit of heaven.

This is such a weird video. Really catchy tune though

Oh, man. This is really, really good! I get a strong Faith No More vibe from them. Happy to see that their albums are on spotify. Thanks for the heads up!

ccessarano, I really dig the drummer of Destrose. She is just destroying those drums. Super talented. I was digging Cynthia until the guitar solo. They need a new lead guitar player.

That Twelve Foot Ninja band is strange. They will require further research.

You should see the other video they have where she takes a moment to spin that pinwheel thing on her set. It's awesomely adorable. Of course, I'm basically in love with every woman in that band. It seems their first album just came out a couple weeks ago this month, which explains why I can't find it on Amazon MP3 or iTunes.

Huh. I watched the video again, but there doesn't seem to be anything wrong with the solo. They also have one album on iTunes that I managed to snag, and nothing seemed to stand out as a negative.

Then again, during most guitar solos, with very few exceptions (*cough*BlindGuardian*cough*), I'm typically paying more attention to the rhythm guitar anyway. Most solos just sound like masturbation to me.

I am really digging it and even though they feel like they need a few albums to grow, I will be keeping my eyes and ears on them. I do want to retract my statement re: Faith No More and add Mr Bungle instead. Strong Patton influence from the lead singer.

Not super negative, but as soon as the solo came on, it was lacking and weak compared to the rest.

Wanted to throw this into the mix as well - Ninjaspy:

Yeah, definitely a Patton thing going on. I like that as there's not enough of that weirdness going around.

Totally. If you are digging 12 ft ninja, check out ninjaspy. Much more accomplished and mature band and has a similar bungle vibe. Their album Pi Nature is on spotify.

A lot of solos are. You probably just need to check out some different lead guitarists.

Since we know you like Power Metal, I assume you like Dragonforce, right?

Just in case anyone hasn't already seen and heard this:
