New Havukruunu is hella good.

Damn straight it is. This is probably going to be my top album of 2020.

Black Crown Initiate is kind of weird for me. I tend to either really like or really dislike individual songs of theirs, with little in-between. I think I'm with you on the new stuff - it's not bad but it's not really jumping out as amazing either.

I can't tell if this video is silly fun or just plain bad.

I've actually been enjoying the album, though.

I enjoyed, but the Napoleon Dynamite aping on the 70s and 80s fashion needs to end soon. It's so played out.

You guys seen this site Draculabyte? So bad ass. Ordered a couple Boo shirts for my kids:

I saw the Gengar shirt somewhere recently (and can't even remember where, it's not like I'm out socially these days what with pandemic and all), and thought I'd need to go find it somewhere. Now I know where it's from!

...and want to get a whole bunch of other shirts! Dang! This site is wonderful.

Yeah, I'm broke. Need a second stimulus now.

I've ignored Intronaut since Prehistoricisms for some reason. They released a new one back in February (Fluid Existential Inversions) and DAMN I am really digging this album. It's progressive/atmospheric sludge/post metal with djenty and psychedelic stuff happening here and there. Drummer's a beast, guitars sound great.

Here are some singles/videos:

Here's the whole thing:

Sometimes I think Intronaut is the band I'd make based on my musical preferences. Problem is I can't un-hear their influences. The best moments on their older albums always felt like a knockoff of their influences.

This album seems to be them stepping more and more into themselves, but there's still too many damn moments that remind me of Tool, Mastodon, etc.

Hats off to you if you enjoy it though.

Yeah, I get what you're saying. I love Tool and I've yet to make it through a Soen album because it's basically imitation. I love Crack the Skye but get fatigued by Mastodon's sound fairly quickly.

This Intronaut album strikes a nice balance for me. While I see their influences in the work, it doesn't strike me as outright imitation. This said haven't spent time with much of Intronaut's other output, which might reinforce your position there too.

Intronaut rules.

November can't come soon enough.

Man I was all about Fates for A Pleasant Shade of Grey and especially Disconnected in high school/college, but I haven't been able to get into anything they've done as much since then. Their last one was decent in spots, and while the single doesn't do much for me at all I'm looking forward to hearing it.

This is where I've been. LOVED those two albums, but they lost me after that.

New debut...California Cursed by Drain. Awesome or sh*t, you decide! 22 minutes of crossover thrash.

I come bearing Icelandic Black Metal.

Ray sounds better than ever on this new stuff IMO. But I agree, APSoG is the last time a Fates album really grabbed me. This new single is fine, I guess, it's kind of like Sevendust but with Ray Alder, less interesting riff writing, and some extraneous droning meandering guitar parts.

It's funny, I used to love everything from Perfect Symmetry up through APSoG, but now on the rare occasions when I want to listen to Fates I usually just go for Awaken the Guardian. I know Arch is an acquired taste for some, but that old stuff is still killer.

I love it. Not sure if I'll love it on repeated listens though.

Power Trip's lead vocalist Riley Gale died yesterday, at only 34 years old.

Invisible Oranges has been a bunch of the tribute tweets and stories being shared by other artists.

Yeah, that's where I am on it too.

NOOOOO. I had no idea but that's heartbreaking. I love Power Trip's stuff. RIP indeed.

My favourite Fates period is definitely Disconnected and onward. Light and Shade of Things is among their best songs, personally I think their last album is probably one of their best, certainly top 5. While this single is not grabbing me myself, not as much as anything from Theories, I'm still super excited about the release.

Neat

Also, I'm spinning The Contortionist's 2017 album "Clairvoyant" and holy hell I totally slept on this album.

Third single from the new album released. It's very different.

Well, can't say this new album is a retread, certainly.

That's for sure.

Yikes, enjoying this.

Eight days without any metal posts?!?

Well, this isn't a metal post, but it pretty cool.

New AN:

Nice Python reference in there.

New Killer Be Killed apparently, too.

My three year old asked if this was the "Christmas band", meaning Trans Siberian. Lol

Has anyone else been playing this game? Double Kick Heroes is a rhythm game featuring original metal tunes spanning the myriad sub-genres of metal. The idea is that you’re playing the kick drum on your controller. Cymbals and snare are added later. The quality of the music is pretty damn good.

The story mode is fairly entertaining; cartoonish post apocalyptic setting and tons of doofy humor. Many of the characters are parodies of iconic metal celebrities.

This game is on Xbox game pass, as well as other platforms.
