\m/(~_~)\m/ Bring the Metal! \m/(~_~)\m/

Old you say? Sorry, I think I’m losing my hearing. I’m pretty sure that the guys from Municipal Waste are also old. Their new EP sounds pretty great.

What's the point?

It's not like they have any material to work with these days.

Zack is great with RTJ, I'll say that.

That's the joke. :p

I know, I was playing along, not countering you.

Paul Ryan must be so stoked.

New Trent Reznor soundtrack for Watchmen is up and streamable.

Ah, yeah, this is great stuff. Been looking forward to hearing it on its own.

I'm really enjoying the new Alcest.

It helps that it snowed here today.

Considering going to LA next weekend to the Midnite Communion event to see Indian, Oryx, Fistula, and a few other bands.

On the other hand, I *just* got home after a pretty grueling two weeks away, and I don't want to leave my couch, much less my city. We'll see how I feel in a week.

New Mayhem album sure is a new Mayhem album.

It's good, sure, but not exactly bringing a lot of "new" to the... sacrificial altar.

e: Oh, and they've released their first-ever music video to go along with it.

New album drops in a couple weeks. The first song here is a 2 min folk harp intro, that wouldn't be out of place on a Dead Can Dance record, before the second song kicks in with a more typical metal sound. Obsequaie's 2015 release was quite good, so I'm looking forward to sinking my teeth into more of this later this month. They've put out a couple more songs but I'm just gonna wait till the full album drops.

Apparently Vltimas is a supergroup. All I know is Spotify recommended it to me and I liked it. Turns out they're on Season of Mist, so naturally they're good.

Spotify also pushed a new Contortionist song in front of me. I somehow wasn't following them on Spotify, which I've since rectified. They aren't exactly \m/ at this point in their career, but I know some of yall enjoy them.

Psst, Legion, Ulcerate and Krallice were name dropped in this AMG review of Casket Huffer. Also, what a name!

First you bring us Funeral Fvkk and now Casket Huffer. You're really dialed in to that creepy mortuary band name scene.

I haven't been able to stop listening to The Great Old Ones since their new album came out. It's one of the best black metal releases of the year in my opinion. Also loving that Casket Huffer, and what a great name!

If you enjoy the very heavy stoner metal, these guys have been in my headphones lately:

It starts slow and quiet, it ends very fast and loud. Mount Crushmore is an apt name for the album. Asthma Castle isn't as good as Casket Huffer as a name, but it ain't bad.

Melodic medieval black metal is pretty much what you need to know about this one:

I'm pretty sure they feature actual medieval instruments in some of songs on that album.

I think it's a clear jump up from their previous album, which already was year-end list material for me. It helps that the production is MUCH better than it was on EOD.

Vildhjärta has a new song out.

Yeah, it's absolutely incredible. I've been bouncing between that and the new Blut Aus Nord constantly.

I didn't even realize Blut aus Nord had a new album. That's odd, normally they're on my radar.

I cannot stop listening.

Agreed, the Blut aus Nord is fantastic. I even sent one of the songs to a friend of mine that doesn't listen to black metal and he enjoyed it.

Another great album, from back in May, but I only heard last week myself:

No idea how I haven't heard of Serpent ov Old before, but they've already got a number of releases and they are great.

We talked about it a little a couple pages back. The band surprise released it early after the album was leaked, so it kinda dropped out of nowhere without much fanfare.

It really is "Memoria Vetusta in space" and it's great.

Some damn good melodic death:

Edit: I realized that, like many metal bands, it's impossible to read their name in the video image there. It's Valdrin, and they're from Cincinnati. They've got a couple albums, the most recent was last year. It's all great!

(Band name is Valdrin for anyone confused as I was.)

I like what I'm hearing. It's borderline cheesy with the keyboards which is awesome because it adds unique flavor!

Sorry to add so much so quick to the thread, but this one really jumped out for me. You just don't get much really good progressive death these days. Doing a quick search while trying to find this video, it looks like Heavy Blog really liked it. Featuring the drummer from Ne Obliviscaris too. Iapetus - The Body Cosmic. This song is amazing. The album is more greatness.
