Non-game Android Apps Recommendations Catch-All

Chome to phone is pretty cool.

You can send a link, map or whatever directly to your phone from your browser.

Helps me browse stuff that work blocks or sending a map to my phone for directions when I head out the door.

The Winamp Android Beta is pretty damn great.

It doesn't have gestures, but it has a lockscreen widget, it's very quick, and it even handles my OGG files without issue. Plus it can sync via the Winamp desktop software.

I absolutely love Winamp on Android. Rock steady, easy to navigate. I hope in the newer versions they add streaming.

I wasn't all that impressed with Winamp, guess I didn't give it enough time to see all the cool features I apparently missed though.

It needs to add onboard memory support as well.

Also not a fan of the Winamp app. I'm using PowerAmp and like it enough to have dropped the $5 on it.

Winamp can now sync wirelessly with your Android device. Awesome.

Also awesome: Lastpass has acquired Xmarks. Which means you can get your synced passwords and synced bookmarks on your Android device for $20 a year.

nice app and one thing i hated about the default gallary on the galaxy s was that it would constatly pick up my album art. this one allows you to filter out folders!
sweet.

All android galleries do this. The way to hide folders is to put a . in front of them. Name it .Music or something, if your album art is buried in there with your mp3s, would keep it from picking it up. Or the individual album art folders could work too I guess, however you have it organized.

This app allows you to just filter it out. it's pretty nice to not have to rename folders or file names.

Just discovered that you can long-press on a folder and choose "ignore folder" to set the filter. sweet.

Just Pictures is great, have been using it for a while. Its advantage is that you can tell it explicitly what folders to watch, thus helping it to avoid your music collection folder with all the album art pics. Very easy to configure.

Has anyone else had a problem with the last one or two versions of Swype where it lags horribly sometimes? It hasn't yet happened in a place where I can remember to make a note on what I was doing, but it feels like it's happening more.

Btw, the GWJ CC app is on Android now.

Who created that? How do we best submit suggestions for improving it?

Can someone provide a link or a QR?

Does this work? Let me know... haven't done that for an Android app yet.

Yeah that brought up the market page.

I confirm it works.
There's a ~$2.00 charge for it (it translates to Mexican Pesos).
Is this money that goes directly to the developer, site or are they both and same?

FWIW, I think a third party provides a framework of sorts and they insert their content.

I was wondering the same thing. I've had the app for a little while (after Certis tweeted a link to it) and it's definitely a 1.0 app - some bugs & the UI lacks polish.

ADW Launcher EX has been released. It's 2.50 euros, but so far definitely seems worth it. Seems pretty fast on my phone, which is not a 1ghz beast, and has some cool animations and other small features I haven't seen yet in other launchers.

BTW, @Hobbes, when did you get an Android? Retire the Blackberry finally?

Has anyone been using the yahoo mail app? I believe I have been having problems with this on my N1 but cannot nail it down. It does seem to stop when I uninstall the yahoo mail app.

Anyone here checked out GO Launcher? I've been using it for 5 days now and it's really working out for me.

I somehow glossed over this in my initial perusal of the options, so thank you, sir, for being awesome.

Has any one tried using the Steam app. I'm not sure what you can do on it because I can never logg in.

What Steam app?

I just use my web browser for any Steam purchases, friend or group invites and such when I'm away from the PC.

I was until ADW Launcher EX came out. I purchased it and have been using it since. Very cool screen transitions and it seems to work the fastest out of all the home replacements I've used.

I want to put a word in for Manga watcher. The app is still being regularly updated, adding useful features everytime.

How does that differ from Manga Browser (which I'm currently using)?

Ventriloid!

Allows you to use ventrilo from your phone. Handy little program. If you play WoW (or any game) on a dinosaur of a machine like mine that can't handle thinking about more than one thing at a time, this can be useful. My machine has issues hooking up to anything bluetooth related, so my usual headset wouldn't work. Enter Ventriloid - since my phone came with a mic/headset cable, it's serving it's purpose well. Need to try it with more people, though, so I can find out if it'll let me adjust other people's volume settings and such. I'll update my review as I get to use it with more people.
