Non-game Android Apps Recommendations Catch-All

Anyone know of a good way to back up my Galaxy S II automatically? I recently replaced mine because the other one was lost, but now I am thinking I want to back up my texts (well the photos more specifically) and my stored photos and videos I shot with the phone. Any recommendations?

MyBackup Pro is what I used for backing up before rooting my Nexus. It worked well for me.

I also do not fully understand the hoopla around Instagram.

It's a big deal for people that used it a bunch with their Iphones. Android already had a few good photo/sharing apps like camera zoom fx, etc.

I tried it out... it's a nice quick way to dress up a photo and socialize it. It's certainly not the awesome and essential app that it's hype suggested though.

Yes, this.

That's it?!?! Yeesh, not getting the hype at all.

That's what I thought after playing Angry Birds for the first time.

I read on Calcalist (local economic news site) that the Master iPhone race is complaining about the invasion of Android peasants.

Whoah.

This quote was particularly telling:

ew android users can have instagram, I don't feel special anymore

Lady, handing someone money for a product does not make you special, no matter what what the maker claims. It makes you a customer, not a Special Enlightened Being.

The people creating the products? They might qualify. But not you.

Wow just wow!

Not that it was weakening but, that just renewed my hatred of most things Apple due purely to there customers.

I am sooo frustrated that most board game developers seem to believe Ios is the only place to make money.

That exact reason is why they've got me considering switching to an iPhone or buying an iPad.

What is this instagram, and why do I have the urge to install it on my Android and start following a whole bunch of people in that photo above?

It's a photo sharing ap that allows you to join the apple-centri and therefor hipster crowd in showing off said photos.

Android army is invading.

Heh, my Nexus cost more than an iPhone.

for reals, and that's without the markup for having an Apphole sticker on it.

Any good podcast apps folks would recommend? I've been using Pocket Cast but it is flaky: random stuttering on downloaded podcasts, lockups, and occasional crashing of my phone make it time to find something else.

edit: sorry, filthy skimmer here. Will try out BeyondPod.

Made a new topic for this. Didn't want to take away from the intent of this thread.

Why... WHY is the Android-native YouTube app so miserably awful?! Why do 1:00 videos take longer to load than 45:00 videos? Why do they buffer more often? What the CRAP is going on with this app that it sucks so HARD? I am infuriated by it every time I have to use it. It's just... An absolute failure. Every update to it has done nothing to improve it. And this is across devices. Whether on my HTC Incredible, HP Touchpad running Cyanogen, or my Galaxy Nexus, it's just as bad everywhere.

Is there an alternative that is not Skyfire?

Can't you just watch in the browser? Isn't that the point of Android having Flash Player?

The flash player has similar issues when dealing with YouTube videos.

..."Other" flash video players don't have those issues.

I haven't had any of the issues you're talking about with the YouTube app on either my Thunderbolt or my Galaxy Tab 10.1.

Yeah, my wife watches a lot of YouTube videos in the app without issues. She had the Incredible and now the Rhyme.

Chrome for Android!

I guess this is only for Ice Cream Sandwich? But holy crap was I happily surprised when I stumbled on this with my Galaxy Nexus. It's awesome. It syncs with your desktop Chrome. Bookmarks, passwords, etc... and best of all, even open tabs!

No more need for Chrome2Phone.
