Don't Let the Pile Make a Fool of You

Pages

Another month, another 2-5 games added to my collection. The pile grows and grows. I believe it may be sentient by now. In fact, I think my pile is the one sending me links to clearance titles and deals online. It has become self-sustaining. This is really how Skynet got started.

A quick reminder, in order to be considered "Pile of Shame" the game needs to be at least three months old. Otherwise, it's just a new game you haven't gotten to playing yet.

Let's get on to the games!

This month's Pick of the Pile is

"Engineer Isaac Clarke is sent to repair the Ishimura's communications, but arrives to find a floating vessel that has become a complete bloodbath. The crew is mutilated and infected with an ancient alien scourge. Clarke's repair mission is transformed to one of survival as he fights to save himself and return the artifact to the planet at any cost." (EA.com)

I haven't figured out what I want to play yet. Maybe in a couple of days something will just jump out at me.

I'm going to get through Assassin's Creed 2 this month. I mean it this time.

I am very close to finishing Infamous, over half-way through the final island. I expect to be done by tomorrow.

After that, I plan on polishing off Red Faction Guerrilla-PC. My one real bitch is the segments where you need to grind out salvage to advance the story.

Right - Warhammer 40K DoW 2 (original campaign) is going down this month.

My wife and I should finish up Dead Space Extraction this month. I'll also look to play through Aquaria (on the Mac!)

I'm on the last boss of Armored Princess. It's going down tonight.

Apart from that, sign me up for God of War 1 (I got the PS3 Collection). I'll be playing some other new-ish games, but might venture into more Pile territory later in the month.

I threw GoW in multi due to the PS3 re-release on Blu-ray.

Since it's for PC and Mac, Aquaria is in multi as well.

Dead Space (PC)

If you can't decide what to play have us decide it for you ;-P

Infamous is done dude.

I am committing to completing Suikoden (PSX via PSP) and Dragon Age (PC) this month. This I pledge to you!

Ok, I'm in for the first Phoenix Wright game.

I also want to play something else, but I don't know what, so I'll give that a couple days.

I wish I could play video games. My goal is to try and have FF13 wrapped up by mid-may. I won't be able to start playing again until late april....if not early may.

For shame, I must recycle Fallout 3 for April's pile slot. I'm loving every minute of it, however. It falls this month!

Beyond good and Evil (pc)
Borderlands (pc)
Crysis Warhead

Thanks

Dead Space not starting well. First off, they joystick/gamepad support is f*cked up, so having a joystick plugged in means your gaze keeps sliding up to the ceiling. Found a fix for that. Also noticed that if you open the control binding options from the main menu, the bottom item is actually off the screen. Turned off V-sync too, of course, since it's on by default and notoriously broken in this port.

Second run, I had to sit through the new game sequence all over again because it's unskippable. Oh great, no save-on-demand. My whole computer locked up at the first console I tried to activate.

I think I am going to try for Assassin's Creed 2 and the Chronicles of Riddick games this month. Took down Fable 2 just before the bell in March so looking forward to these guys.

Sucks Quintin. I had an easier time of it on PC - worked it with Mouse/Keyboard, and found it wholly enjoyable. Stick with it.

King's Bounty AP is DONE.
It's a testament to how much I love that style of game that I stuck with it for so long...but damn, those games are grindy. I'm happy to move on.

Dear pile, Infamous (PS3) must die. Love, me.

I know I failed last month. I'll make up for it with Mass Effect 2. I'm 40 hours in and should be able to finish it by the end of the month.

Right, it's going to be Penumbra: Black Plague (PC) for me!

Released on Jan 26th, DENIED.

After taking last month off from my pile, I've got two games I'm finishing up this month - Ratchet and Clank: Tools of Destruction, and Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box.

Hey, if she finishes it on or after the 26th, then it's eligible

I probably won't have too much gaming time this month, so I'll go for a some easy ones. Unfortunately, only one is eligible. I'll try to do a run through Torchlight and Hotel Dusk: Room 215 (a fitting tribute, since its developer, Cing, filed for bankruptcy on March 1st), but I purchased both of those less than 3 weeks ago.

So, until something changes, I guess my only official pledge for this month is Gunstar Super Heroes (GBA), which can be completed in under an hour....assuming the player doesn't die. Over...and over...again. I breezed through the first two levels before smashing into a brick wall at full speed. I since managed to complete the third stage, but the rest have stymied me. I want to finish it as both Red and Blue (yeah, those are the characters' names).

I'd also like to nominate The Saboteur for myself. It was released on 12/8/2009, so this would put it into the 4 month zone, no?

Aww damn. I thought it was out longer than that. I'll pick something else in a day or two.

That sucks man. I had no problems with the game on PC. I would also drop the controller and play M&K if I was you, for all my bleating about the the issues with the PoP port last month, Dead Space is pretty well done in terms of controls.

In fact, I'm joining Quintin in the exploration of the Ishimura. Captain, please put me down for Dead Space.

Mario and Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story for the DS.

I didn't even touch the thread last week after I posted my games of choice, but I've always loved the portable Mario RPG games, so I feel I can get through this one with little problem.

You guys misunderstand: I'm not using a gamepad. But it detected my Cyborg Graphite joystick and applied its broken broken gamepad logic to it, so my viewpoint kept drifting towards the ceiling. I would never ever ever ever play a first or third person shooter with a gamepad if I could help it.

Ah, ok. That does suck. Weird that you're getting a lock up though. Hopefully the experience smooths out.
