Sorry about the MrDevil. Whenever I see chat pop up, it's just random players selling stuff, so I've begun to not even pay attention. I need to set it to just show guild chat.
Hehe, no problem. I'm in the habit of watching the colour coding.
When I get home I will drop some invites to whoever Devil Stick hasn't invited yet.
Noob question: I started an Elementalist on Nightfall, and worked my way through all the quests I could find in the first area, mostly just running with that hero warrior dude (Koss?) and no henchmen. I started getting quests for Champion's Dawn, so I headed over there. It turns out that the zone is filled with level 10+ monsters, and I'm still only level 7. Suddenly I'm forced to run with a full complement of henchmen, and I'm still getting my ass handed to me on a regular basis. I accepted some quest to defend an area and it started throwing waves of level 13 monsters at me.
Did I miss a big chunk of content somewhere, or do I need to go back to the first zone and grind for a bit?
Maps might help you spot somewhere you've missed.
Ok, I think I have invites to everyone up to this point - let me know if I missed you.

Space attacks a target
Ctrl Spacebar instructs your party to attack the same target as you, this is most helpful if you're a squishy.
Make sure there is a monk in your party, Kihm the Nightfall healer is actually pretty decent.
I recommend Gehraz the dervish for your 4th member until you get more heroes.
If you're a squishy, particularly elementalist:
If you are under melee attack use 'Ward against Melee'
Use 'Firestorm,' AI moves out of AoE damage, so if you are being nailed by melee it makes them go away.
Kite. Seriously, running away is under rated.
If you're under attack, Ctrl Space on the enemy in question.
General combat:
Kill monks. Grub Lance and Skree Hatchlings are the ones I can think of right now.
Equip a longbow on your character for pulling.
Watch patrol patterns.
Word to the wise:
If the quest text has [Difficulty:Master] in red at the top, feel free to say no. I think that is what is happening with the level 13 enemies.
That's all I can think of right now.
Yeah, the level 13 guys were from a [Difficulty: Master] quest so I kind of expected that to happen. Otherwise, I'm doing most of those things already. I took Ward Against Melee off my bar because I wasn't getting a lot of use out fo it in the first area, maybe I'll add it back and see if it makes a difference. Most of the time I seem to be getting torn up by ranged units though, like some of the Corsair guys and those big flower things.
The Ibogas and Jacarandas I hit with Firestorm and inferno, they go down pretty fast if your whole party focuses on one at a time. The corsairs are a little tougher, just make sure you take out the medics if they have, then spell casters. And again, firestorm the squishies, it stops them from casting and forces them to move, while they're moving they aren't attacking.
Also make sure you use the enchantment that heals you when you cast spells, can't remember its name off hand.
At the risk of sounding like I'm saying 'l2p noob' I don't think you're out leveled, you should be hitting mobs slightly (3-4 levels) higher than you. I think you just need to develop a better sense of the combat. It should come soon enough.
*edit*
Oh, and if you are struggling or not feeling a particular class, try another.

I've been having the same problem. It definitely feels like I missed a chunk of content. Though I can't find out where. I think I just need to play better
Look for a quest in your log that is identified as a "Primary" quest - that will take you through the storyline.
If you do not see such a quest, look in your map for a town with a shield icon and go there. Storyline instances start from towns with these shield icons.
While in those towns there is a button in the party window to start the mission. Before you click it, fill up your party with other people, heroes or henchmen.
If that doesn't work, there's a list of the "storyline missions" for each chapter at the bottom of this page. That should help you find the next step in the story.

Have fun, I hope that helps.

8 skills are pretty limiting, and one should always be a res, so you need to make very careful choices in your builds. Pay attention to how the skills effect each other. For example, warriors have skills that cause deep wounds if the enemy is bleeding. Deep wounds prevent healing so make sure Koss has a skill that causes bleeding, then another that causes deep wounds. Heroes use skills from left to right if they can, so lay them out carefully.
I'm rusty so I can't remember any other interactions, but read the descriptions carefully. And don't forget to level your heroes.
You should never need to grind to level in this game.
*edit*
And I'm sure you're doing this, but make sure to get the bounties from the Sunspear Scouts, you earn double XP.
*edit again*
Just a point, MMO vets like to say Guild Wars is simple, but there are quite a few technicalities. I was starting to get quite deep into the meta game when my then guild collapsed and I lost interest in finding another.
There is a fair amount to learn, but it's definitely worth it. It is also fairly noob friendly as long as you are careful and pay attention to the skills. Just remember that it's an animated CCG.
And the chances of catching me online are fairly slim, but anyone who needs help must just yell and I'm there. Unless I'm in a mission.

My first GW char was a heal spec Monk. For most the time I ran around in circles while watching red (health) bars go up and down.
I remember after finishing something, people in the party would comment on how cool that looked. I missed a lot of that being so focused on health bars and running away like a pansy.
Playing a Mo became more fun when I leaned how to run a Protect Mo. I still ran away like a little coward but I was more in tune of what was going on in the battle in order to anticipate who to protect.
I'd like to join the revival. Finished Prophecies with an Elementalist (Dyarg Uliso), Factions with a Ritualist (Ziven Orrol) , and have a lvl 20 Paragon (Ich Chwa) midway through Nightfall.
I played this in beta and when it first came out but it's been years since. I picked up the Trilogy on sale and started a new character in Factions. I'll add my character name when I get home tonight.
It's a game I've been interested in playing through but I think I need others who are also playing to keep me interested.

That's what I figured , I just wanted to make sure. In a lot of MMOs you're probably in the wrong zone if everything is 3+ levels above you, so I just wanted to make sure I was in the right place. I think I've got a pretty good feel for the class now, and my build seems pretty solid. Mostly I probably just need to prioritize my targets better and micromanage my heroes/henchmen a bit more. I also need to get a better understanding of the exhaustion mechanic: I use Meteor a lot, but in longer fights that really starts to eat up my energy pool.
For the record, my current build (Elementalist/Mesmer) is:
Flare
Firestorm
Meteor
Aftershock
Glyph of Elemental Power
Aura of Restoration
Energy Tap - I might swap this out, it hasn't been very useful so far
Some signet for resurrecting allies, can't remember the name.
I've been dumping attribute points into Fire, Energy Storage, and Earth in that order.

Oh gods yes.
Monking is one of those things, it's satisfying rather than fun, especially as an infuser. Apparently I was quite good. I couldn't tell, I was just too busy watching the health bars. I wouldn't be shy though to call target if I was being attacked.
Being a Monk in GvG with South African latencies was no fun though.

Ditto! Well, all except for the started-the-character bit. That will have to wait till I install the thing, tonight if my connection feels speedy.

Yeah Guildwars is different when it comes to enemy levels. You get an XP bonus for killing higher level enemies and practically nothing for lower. You only go up to 20 but the highest enemy I can recall is 25 or 28, but there may be higher. Been a while since I was at those levels.
Meteor is a good power, but the exhaustion is a killer at lower levels. I would recommend Immolate, it sets the enemies alight for a few seconds.
My build
Flare
Firestorm
Immolate
Ward against Melee
Conjure Flame
Aura of Restoration
Glyph of Elemental Power
Sunspear Rebirth signet
I generally try keep the Glyph and Enchantments running during combat then hit with Firestorm, switch target to a healthy enemy, Immolate, Flare. Switch target again, Immolate, flare etc etc. If I'm under melee attack, fire up the ward, switch to that enemy, Ctrl Space then Firestorm.
Tab for next enemy and c for closest enemy are your friends.
*edit*
Oh and if you are using powers that exhaust you, focus on energy storage.
I haven't found a skill trainer with Immolate or Conjure Flame yet, or I'd definitely use those. Right now the fire spells I'm using are pretty much the only ones I've got.
Edit: I think I've also got Glowing Gaze, but since I don't have anything that inflicts Burning yet it doesn't sound all that useful.
The builds have changed almost constantly. They've done regular balance passes on the skills, a few times per year.
There's a fork of the GuildWiki called PvXwiki that is completely devoted to skill sets and their discussion and community rating of them.
I pretty much cut and paste my builds out of the PvXwiki, the folks there have put way more time and thought into how it all works together than I ever want to.
Really? I thought I grabbed all his fire spells and I'm pretty sure I don't have that one. I'll have to double-check.

Tohn in Kamadan has Immolate.
Regarding builds, for general PvE I don't think you need to optimise too much. Farming and PvP need really good builds though.
Oh wait, no he doesn't. It's showing for me because the skill is unlocked. In Nightfall you need to get to the Gate of Torment, you can get it in Kaineng Center in Factions, or three places in Prophecies, all later game areas.
Whoops.
Yeah, collecting skills is the GW version of gaining levels. More skills gives you more build flexibility which lets you run some pretty cool builds. You should be just fine with the starter skills though. Nightfall also has some similar skills to immolate or conjure flame that you can find.
It's been a long time since I was up on skills though. My ranger build seemed to be okay when I came back to it, but I'm guessing there are some interesting alternate builds out there now.
Last week I meandered into the free trial and ended up buying it on steam two days later. It's a nice change of pace from the some of the mmo's I've been playing recently and I'm really liking it.
I just started a new character in Nightfall under the name Ruhk Se Cthain, if I can get an invite.
Ok, invites out to this point.
An animated CCG, hey? I may have to do a little research on this one like I need another game to play!
I've started up a new character on Nightfall, Dolfus Valdrast
Haven't played in a while and I am kind of lost. Lazy Orenthal is my name in game.
