Left 4 Dead 2 Catch All

So I played last night on the GWJ server with Brainz and some others last night, it was not pretty. First time i'd ever played a vs match. Add to that the fact I never played L4D1 and have only played the campaigns in L4D2 through once and I was completely lost on where to go and how to use the infecteds' attacks. Probably didn't help that my mic was broken so I couldn't talk... Overall Vs was fun but it took a little too long for my liking. By the time the last level came around I was pretty bored and just playing at that point so as not to drop out and screw over everyone else.

I made the same mistake of joining a VS game before playing all the campaigns and it was by far my worst experience in a VS match. So bad I stayed away from Swamp Fever VS games until I tried it again last night and loved it.

2 highlights from the game hearing Muttonchop say "Mutton Smash!" as the tank and getting Toast to yell "Son of a B*tch!" over snare speak. I don't know why but it made me feel all warm and fuzzy to hear that.

Versus matches do tend to take a little while. I'd recommend you play Scavenge mode until you get a handle on what the different infected can do. Scavenge is kind of like Arena mode in TF2 - individual rounds are quite a bit shorter than versus.

Not knowing the maps is obviously an issue for versus mode, as you mention. One of the key things to remember as infected is you want to spawn *ahead* of the survivors the majority of the time, and you usually want to stay in spawn mode as long as you can so as not to give away your position. All of the specials make pretty distinct sounds that the survivors will be listening for.

Don't give up on versus based on that round. The teams were pretty imbalanced, and that certainly didn't help. When you get your mic fixed, we should have another go at it.

My first instinct is to help ukick enjoy his L4D2 experience, to get in there with Brainz and really show him the ropes. But then I remember all the times I have had to curse his name it TF2 and I am not sure I want that. Ah, what the hell, I'm in. I'd love to run through some scavange or vs levels with you to give you a feel for it.

That might be the most pleasant euphemism for "rape" I've ever heard!

I also was god awful on infected in L4d1

The problem is most pubbies, even if they know what they're doing - they spend more time yelling at you then telling you what to do

I watched criken's instructional vids on youtube, and after rolling with a few people who had some idea how to pull off an ambush, you start getting the hang of it.

One of the problem is that most people seem better with humans than infected. I've been on human teams where we're blasting away zombies, and when it's our turn, they all rush in 1 at a time and die doing less than 15 damage. Headdesk moments include when a smoker gets in FRONT of their team, pulls from ground level and lasts around 2 seconds. Or when a spitter spits in front of the doorway, gets owned, and they just wait for the spit to disappear. Or boomers that love to run marathons to barf

I held back on posting just to say I enjoyed both his Holiday Avatar customization and explanation because I worried I'd look like too much of an a$$-ki$$er.

You shant ever worry about compliments. If you've ever played a match with me (which you have), you should know that I hand out compliments like I would hand out candy if I was a homeowner on Halloween, in a neighborhood with lots of kids, and my residence's lights are on, and I have a bunch of pumpkins with really good designs carved into them (thanks to Pumpkin Masters), and I'm also known as "the good house."

Concerning my avatar, I prefer to use "make believe" rather than Photoshop skillz because:

1. Mr. Rogers made me the man I am today; and
2. I have no Photoshop skillz.

Or when they tell you what to do it resembles:

A) Go over there. (With no indication of where 'there' is)
B) Save me immediately!
C) Play more better!
D) Don't use all my health kits and pills.
E) To the right! (meaning their right, often said while spinning)
F) To your right! (actually to your left)

Lobster, your avatar looks like a pimp that grows tomatoes.

I should hope so, as that is clearly what it is.

I told you guys I hand out compliments generously.

Do we need to dig up my tutorial from L4D1? Cam's explanation is conspicuously devoid of proper hat etiquette.

Personally, I quite like the Santa Hat on Camni's avatar.

I think he was referring to this.

Also, when the teams are a bit more evenly matched than last night, neither team tends to make it too far, so it's over quicker.

For folks who think the bots don't care - look how much they're willing to risk to save a teammate:

LOL

That was great.

Quick fellow bots! We must pile the ground with our bodies to cushion his eventual fall!

LOL!

Already poured 45 hours into this game. Crazy!

Hahaha, just one of many scenario's where the bots are utterly useless or manage to wipe the team. The supposed AI the bots have baffles me everyday.
Pro-tip: In a versus match, never have a bot on your team or the above scenario will likely occur.

I think the were all just horribly distraught and couldn't handle the pressure.

:/ In L4d1, the bot will accompany the lone survivor. On the last mall level during the gas can collection, I was skipping along and expecting my bot to protect me. He followed me then went back to the 2 man, leaving a 3/1 divide.

I got owned. By a noob team! ARGHHHH
