Left 4 Dead 2 Catch All

I also saw a Rikku skin in the screenshots. What in the world is going on at Helms Deep?

oh and a princess zelda skin for Rochelle as well.

All kinds of silliness.

it's so hard to get a vs game going now... all we play are co-op games........ =(

Red always reject my invites.... so sad

I wanted to play when my wife went out of town for a weekend recently, but I think you were too busy getting married. :p

My friends and I have been hopping into impromptu versus matches by creating a public lobby, grouping up, then letting the pubbies fill in the rest. For a group of people that's generally not great at versus mode, the matches have been surprisingly even.

Cold Stream on July 24th

I don't seem to be able to install custom maps. I tried these instructions, http://www.l4dmaps.com/install-maps.php
but it keeps telling me that it's either already installed or not working. And when I go to Extras in game, I see nothing in addons.

Thoughts? Clarifying questions?

Early on I had to manually install them. Or maybe that was with L4D1? But either way I had to make the directory and move the files there myself. But the last few maps I tried a few months back that was not a problem anymore, clicking the .vpk file just worked.

Check for the addons directory in your L4D2 folder? When you click the .vpk mostly it just copies the file to that directory.

the link I gave included both the automatic and manual directions. I tried both, including putting in the "addons" directory. No joy. Can't think being in Windows 7 has anything to do with it.
Windows even thinks the appropriate program to open the vpk file with is the steam "addoninstaller" or something like that.

There's a l4d2 add-on support item in the Tools section in your Steam library. Try installing that. Last I heard, it was rendered obsolete, but I also remember talking to someone who needed it installed.

Well there was also a point where the installer put them in the "add-ons" directory but it was supposed to be "addons"

Or maybe vice versa. But there was definitely something screwy at one point, where I had both directories in my game folder and had to figure out which one was correct.

My mic doesn't work for some reason. It works in steam overlay (such as voice chats), it works in TF2, but it doesn't work in L4d2. And it also did for the longest time previously

Anyone have a similar problem

No one wants to hear you anyway moo.

Make sure you check the PTT key hasn't been reset to something different.

Roo did you get the issue fixed?

Nope. I did try installing the Tool. If I run it, it says: This game is currently unavailable.

When I double click on the .vpk files, I get: was not installed. it is possible that it is already installed and in use.

Nothing appears in Extras within the game.

Can someone show me what their folders look like under left 4 dead 2, and under addons?

Mine is located at E:\Steam\STEAMAPPS\COMMON\left 4 dead 2\left4dead2\addons\suicideblitz2.vpk

I've got L4D2 installed, and the 3 bits in the 'tools' section, add on support, editing tools and dedicated server, but I'd say the last two wouldn't be needed.

I just fell in love with this game and the GWJers who play it all over again during an Independence Day Vs match.

I remember having to install add-on support and change a setting enabling addons in the L4D2 settings.

My computer crashed and y'all ditched me

You can say they left you... 4 dead.

We waited for over 5 minutes, and someone was going to drop if you came back.

Want to play tonight? I may try around 9 central.

I am sure you loved eating my brains at the top of the drop in the tunnel of love. Chainsaw doesn't work against 3 infected attacking at once. Lesson learned. It was a close fun match.

We did wait the reasonable amount of time before we said, "Screw Switchbreak, invite Gumbie".

Roo just drag the vpk files into the folder that Scratched mentioned and you should be done.

When i got the add-ons working all i did was drop them in and that was it, didn't enable anything or install anything else.

I have two vpk files in that folder, and as mentioned...cannot seem them in Extras in-game, and double clicking launches the addoninstaller in the /bin directory which tells me, cannot install...maybe cause they're already installed. which they're not.

I may be a little late to the apocalypse, but MAN is this game awesome! I just tried it out the other night. I normally like to clear out an area when I play games before moving on, but I soon realized that doesn't work with this game. They just kept coming! Once I got my head around having to keep pushing forward without killing every enemy, it got much easier. Granted, I was playing on easy, but still.

Solo? Easy? You need to friend a few of us up stat! The game is ten million times better with a full crew of 4 players.

FTFY.

Nivek, if we're not friended, start adding folks in this thread and from the Steam Group.
Really, you don't want to solo.
I played about 90 seconds of solo and then switched to Versus mode. Seriously, friend some folks up and get a group going.

I invited him to the Steam group. But my friends list is full again.

Nivek - feel free to friend me on Steam (I can't seem to find your profile from my mobile app).

The versus games are the best with GWJ'ers but I think they're much better _AFTER_ you've played through the maps co-op at least once. Even if you don't get a full group of 4, playing with human partners is generally better than the 'bots. I'll gladly join you for some spoiler-free team play if I'm available. I still love this game and promise to never purposely set you on fire (unlike some -ahem- Australians (Lars))
