The Witcher catch-all

I just hope for a .net 3.5 compatible patch.

Care to elaborate? Does that mean it won't work in Windows 7? (Which has .net built in)

The EE patch doesn't work in Win7 because it tries to force a .net 3.0 install. Doesn't work in compatibility for me either.

I just started playing, and I'm running W7 64 bit, working fine so far.

Did you install the EE patch? That keeps fing up on my Win7 64bit machine.

I'm patched up to the current version through impulse. I'll play some more this weekend, maybe that'll be telling, I just started over.

It may be impulse has fixed the patch. I'm patching up the boxed copy and it has been no dice, although the last time I tried was like 2 weeks ago.

Take the plunge! Enjoy a good game, support a quality development studio, titillate yourself, encourage development of a sequel, back the cRPG genre, bolster the economy of Poland, there are so many good reasons.

So tempting...

Edit: If I bought the non enhanced version does it patch up to the Enhanced version?

Yep. Free, yo.

Well I will definately holla at an unenhanced version then, uh yo.

I'm also not having any trouble with Windows 7 and the enhanced edition patch. This is with the Direct2Drive version, so I had to download all of the patches and addons (five files after registering) from their website.

You guys need to buy this. Otherwise I will never know what the hell happened to Alvin.

I will make no bones about this. The Witcher is the best written, most satisfying RPG I have played since Diablo II. And follows in the Black Isle/Interplay tradition.

I can't buy it on Steam as it's not available in the UK, however I think it appearing there is going to prompt me to finally buy a copy at retail. Good to know that the normal edition can be patched up to the enhanced edition, especially as it's about half the price.

Alright, alright, I'm in. You bunch of filthy enablers.

Got another one!

I predict you'll love it Podunk. It's got great flavor, which is only enhanced by some of the voice actors who play it tongue in cheek. Great stuff.

I've been tempted to pick up this game for a while, and 30% off on the super-deluxe-fancypants edition was just too good to pass up.

I guess I should try it on win7 again. Does D2D have the patches? The ones off CDProjekts site are wierd.

Chalk me up as another one jumping at this. I have been vaguely tempted to check out Witcher for quite a while but never actually got around to it.

I, for one, welcome our new Steam Overlords!

Uh...you find out what happened to Alvin in the game.

Regarding Alvin...

I didn't really like that particular twist, since it suggested that no matter how Geralt treated Alvin the outcome would be the same. While playing I was careful to try and guide Alvin towards being a decent person, and I had hoped that would be worked into the story somehow.

that is what got me on it this morning. thanks steam for giving such great deals

I picked it up too after having just finished both books (which were definitely worth the read, by the way). Although seeing as how I'm submitting my MASc thesis at the end of the month, I won't be playing it until I'm graduated and happily unemployed in September.

I love how they keep improving and releasing free content for the game. I reviewed it on October 30th, 2007! They deserve every sale, I can't wait to see what they do next.

Well I took the plunge today and bought it

I look forward to playing it.

Installed it on Steam last night and played it for a bit today. So far its as good as the glowing reviews have indicated. However, I'm deeply concerned that I'm not seeing as much boobage as I deserve, do I still need to install the size double E patch or is it automatic with the Steam install?

I'm pretty certain it's automatic. Half the cards already didn't have nudity in them. It literally was just a few cases of nipples, making the fact that there was such a big deal to have it removed for the US to begin with all the more ludicrous.

Yup, still kinda bummed out about the console version no longer existing, though. With the success of Mass Effect and Fallout 3, I think there would have been a pretty sizeable audience that they could have still tapped with this thing.

The Steam version is supposed to be patched to the current uncensored content. You won't see any boobage outside of the "trading cards" (except for the Dryad...green women! rowr!) so if you've yet to make the beast with two backs then you won't see the nudity. The very first card you can obtain (Triss) is actually PG even in the uncensored version.

Right-click on The Witcher in your My Games tab -> Properties -> DLC. If you see "The Witcher: Director's Cut", and your game is listed as fully downloaded and ready to play, then you should be all set.

Otherwise, go here and click to activate the DLC.

Excellent. Thanks for the reassurance.

I picked this up yesterday and so far I really like it. Its not my usual type of game, but if its on sale from steam, it's hard to say no. Especially when so many of you had good things to say about it.

OK, I took the plunge and bought it. Heck, even bought the book on my Kindle. Just the opening cinematic had me hooked. That all said, I creep out on zombies. Hopefully it's not too intense.
