Daylight Saving Time Sucks

We'll you wouldn't have to get up that early if you didn't leave work at 3:30.

This. Well, I don't have daughters, but it's a wonderful thing to not have the entire day's worth of sunlight spent at work.

Standard time is dumb and evil. I approve of the expansion of daylight savings time that has already happened, I approve of expanding it further, and I most approve of just making it permanent.

It does suck getting up in the dark. However, it still pretty much sucks getting up when it's light out. Mornings suck no matter how you slice it. Might as well save that daylight for the non-sucky post-work evening.

Seconded!
*Legion* vs Podunk in an all out grudge match, to decide the fate of DST forever.

I occasionally have to be at work for 5am. It really sucks having to set your alarm for 3:something A.M. and try to get to bed by 9pm so you can get a half decent night's sleep.

I have to be at work for 7am on Sunday. What sucks this weekend is I usually use my cell phone for my alarm, and don't know if it will automatically change time or if I have to turn it on/off in order for it to sync up. I'll have to use my alarm clock as a backup, but I don't know if it automatically adjusts or not either.

On the plus side, the people I'm working with don't know I'm going to be there... If I manage to screw it up, I suppose I can always work with later crew.

I don't have an issue with it still being dark when I go to work. It means there's more daylight at the end of the day to enjoy. What's not so good is working the midnight shift, going home and to bed when it's still dark out, and then waking up after sunset. Winter is depressing for night shift workers.

STONE FOR PRESIDENT! PODUNK FOR VEEP!

Okay, you can have a position in the cabinet. Sec of ag?

I have nothing else to add after this perfect post so I had to quote it.

My sleep schedule is always messed up anyways. This just throws me off even more.

Does that mean I control the pot?

Amen my brothers and sisters. Therefore you should all just move to Arizona! The only hassle being coordinating the time with out of state friends.

Sorry, no, but you will be in charge of meat inspection.

They should move the clock twelve hours, so that we work in the dark during the summer. Think about it, it's perfect.

1. Companies can save money on air conditioning.
2. We can have our days free to have fun.

Sounds like a win-win to me.

I've always enjoyed heading out to work in the morning while it's still dark out (winter months).

There's something subtly secretive about it that attracts me.

Me too. Also, I sleep on the carpool in. Hard to sleep with the sun always in my eyes.

Welcome to third shift. Some of us do that occasionally anyway. In fact... I think I have a shift bid coming up soon at work. Maybe it's time to go back to third. The people are so much calmer.

You know what sucks worse than DST or ST? Getting this sweet alarm clock years ago that was preprogrammed with every date when the clock switched back and forth so you wouldn't have to remember to do it only for the government to change what days it happened a mere year after getting said sweet alarm clock, making it's main feature totally f*cking useless. That means that next weekend, my clock's going to jump ahead another hour by itself. I tried to see if I could set it to Arizona time (where they think as *Legion* does), but the clock doesn't have Arizona time! Aaaaaaaaaaaaaargh!

My opinion as a early riser, I prefer driving to work in the dark and get grumpy when it's too light out on my drive in and like datawang said I enjoy the extra "sandbox time" with my boys when I get home in the evenings. With that being said, I HATE the time change, but like the extra evening light.

No no no! Arizona is the anti-me. They are permanently standard time, which is the unholiest of approaches to time. They dwell in Podunk's darkness.

I seek to lead people to the light... to salvation.

Whatever. I was trying to set it to Arizona time so it wouldn't switch automatically. You know what it feels like to spring forward twice in as many weeks?

I get up for work at 8AM. I love the fact that I get extra hours of daylight in the evening with DST.

You DST Haters can go straight to hell, it's not my fault you have to go to bed at 8PM to wake up freakishly early and can't appreciate some extra sunlight in the evening!

I honestly don't understand early risers. You people might as well be Cylons or some whole other species to me.

Take your "straight to hell" comment and shove it straight where the DST sun don't shine. Correct me if I'm wrong but is this not the Gamers With JOBS forum? Hello, some of us have a family to support. Perhaps there are others such as myself who drag their @$$es out of bed at 4:00am because in today's world it might take a 60-mile commute to find employment that fulfills our obligations.

Nothing would thrill me more than being able to stay up until 1:00am every night, get up at 8:00 and drive five minutes to work. If I could live on 8 bucks an hour, that might be an option. Sorry if my lifestyle offends you, but it's not always favorable to raise your family in the same place you work.

Early-rising, family supporting, commuters, may I have an Amen?

Oh, yeah, Podunk. Amen.

Some of us are Gamers WITHOUT jobs, who still have family to support. And here at GWJ, we try to keep things civil. Maybe next time you could kindly take the time to take a breather before freaking out.

Luckily Hawaii doesn't do daylight savings time. But I still wake up around 4:50 every morning so I never see the light regardless.

AND MY f*ckING CLOCK DOESN'T HAVE HAWAII, EITHER! GODDAMMIT!

Amen!!

I have a boy, girl and a pool that all demand attention after work. Thank God for DST!

It's clear the the only fair thing to do is to adjust the clocks every other week. That way we all get a fair shot at the proper time the sun should come up or set. It's only fair.

I love me some DST. Winter sucks. Bring on spring!

Honestly, it's not DST I have a problem with, it's the lost hour and the two weeks of feeling like sh*t that follow it. If it just went to DST and stayed there forever, I'd probably be a happy camper.

Two weeks of feeling like sh*t?

Man, you people need to do something about your biological problems. I've never had any more than a day's tiredness (if i didn't sleep well) adjusting to DST. I mean, just go to bed an hour earlier! Works for me.

[edit]Oh yeah, i've never had jetlag either but i'm betting you anti-DST people want to stop all flights as well? Heh?!

Dude, yo, take it easy!

I'm honestly quite sorry that you have to wake up that early to support your family by working far away. It's a crappy situation, and I don't disagree that DST makes it even more crappy for some people on monday morning.

The pro-DST vs. con-DST is a thing that's been going on on these boards for a few years now, all in good spirits. I thought the Cylon reference and the exaggerated angst was a good enough an allusion to the ridiculousness of the situation, but I guess not. The bottom line - its a thing that sucks for a bit a few days a year, but you get to make it up in October. In the meantime, we have our good-spirited jabs at each other. What else is a gaming community for?

PS - You suck at Pong. That's right. I went there.
