Deus Ex: Human Revolution Catch-All

I think I need to let some time pass before doing another playthrough, so I can forget things. I did a playthrough recently of System Shock 2, some years since my last and it was kind of good being genuinely surprised by some things, or only having a vague memory of a monster closet in an area but not remembering the details. Right now I can still remember the level layouts and where to find everything, so while it would be a bit of fun, it wouldn't be 'the full experience' for me.

The one thing that is pissing me off is the proximity mines. There I'll be, behind a crate, tittering into my hand, as two guards approach one of my mines. The mine will trigger. There will be an explosion but, as the smoke clears, the two guards will be standing there hail and hearty. Considering this is the future DE's mines are really crappy.

Are you playing on the console? The mines are slightly easier IMO on the PC, since the digital nature of the keyboard controls makes it easier to go just fast enough not to trigger the mines.

I'm actually planning on going back and doing an all guns blazing playthrough. I have all the achievements so it would be about whatever I felt like doing at the time. One of these days anyway :)

I made the decision not to go for no kills, etc. It is fun to just cause mayhem. It'd also be good to try other implants. The double take down thing, although frivolous, is a lot of fun.

Yes I'm on consol. I was planting a mine through a door way and more than once I planted it. Turned to find the door had closed behind me. Panicked. Blew up.

Yeah, see I'm looking forward to actually using the weapons. In my first playthrough I never used weapons as I was going for the no kills etc. Now I can just go guns blazing, explosives, smash through walls etc. Should be fun.

Wow that last fight was weird. Felt pretty half hearted.

Still I'm finished and it was a great game. On to Dragon Age 2!

What did ya think of the "push button to receive pre-made cinematic that is 95% identical to the one you get for pushing a different button" ending?

I think they kind of had a problem they couldn't get rid of in that it was a prequel to DE (and 25 years beforehand), and they couldn't really do anything too extraordinary to change the world. I guess it would have had a bit more potential if they were a spiritual prequel, staying close to DE but not being exact with it, which let them do what they wanted, although then they couldn't really use the Deus Ex name. This is why I'll be interested to see what Eidos Montreal get up to with Thief4, and more importantly what their third project is, assuming it's not another entry in an existing series but a wholly new game.

Yeah, that was fairly weak as well.

I found myself nostalgic for this game today even though it was only a year ago I was playing it. I really, really enjoyed this game and the setting. I still listen to the soundtrack regularly. I think a mark of my a great game for me is when I find myself daydreaming about not just playing it - but the setting, the world, and the characters. The last game that really did that for me was the first STALKER game.

I picked up Missing Link on the Steam holiday sale last year and only got about an hour in. I'll have to try it again.

I felt the same way. Finding a single-player-only FPS/RPG with just as much of a focus on dialog/story/non-combat-stuff as.. well, combat, made me a bit giddy. The bitter old man in me often whispered "Enjoy it, peaches. You're not going to get many more of these slow-moving single-player FPS games before it's online/co-op-focused experiences in your favorite genre all the way, sugar-pop." I played most of it with a big grin on my face, wanting to take it slowly (since every minute I played meant a minute less to be played), yet enjoying it enough to want to eagerly await what was around the next corner.

I can't believe it's been a year and a half since it was released. Have there been any murmurs of more DLC/a sequel/etc.?

A sequel would be great. I'm probably going to play through this one at least once more.

In the same vein: a nerve operated bionic leg.

They could have at least shown that guy throttling a guard or chopping an onion with his square blade extended.

They already did that one, why do you think he's smiling

To do list:

Throttle a guard

Take the bins out

Make an omelette

I hope he washes them between tasks 2 and 3!

Deus Ex: Human Revolution boss fights on Wii U 'as they should have been'

"The boss fights are now as they should have been," Emile Pedneault, game designer on the Director's Cut told us today at PAX East. "We took them and completely rebuilt them. We couldn't change [the boss' character] model and the way they need to die because of the story telling, but we changed the level layout. We tweaked their AI and we've added tons of ways to deal with them."

He continued, "You can deal with a boss fight in a stealth way, you can deal with a boss fight in a hacking way. We even have for each boss fight a way to kill them without firing a single bullet."

There hasn't been a lot of discussion of the Wii U's "Director's Cut" version of the game, but it looks like they overhauled the boss battles for it. No word on whether or not those changes will make it to the PC, PS3, or 360 versions of the game.

I would gladly pay for DLC the fixes the boss battles. I worry that'd set a bad precedent, thought. Probably safer if they release a patch if they intend to bring it to the PC at all.

I would HAPPILY replay the game if they did a Witcher-esque patch/update.

I would happily move this to the top of my pile as soon as they release this patch so I can attempt to play it once again without stalling at the second mission...

Liked!

This wasn't posted 5 days ago, was it?

Nope, 4.

Caught the trailer for the new Will Smith movie After Earth... music was from DX:HR

Yeah you're right, the beginning of the trailer has the main menu music (and a dumb DUN DUN DUN when the kid jumps):

Great catch! I have seen that trailer and totally missed that.

I recognized it, but I love the Deus Ex: HR music. I still listen to the soundtrack once in a while.
